Sometimes I wonder why I punish myself with movies. Case in point, Detective Knight: Rogue. Another in Bruce Willis’ direct-to-market series of films, and yes we all know why he went down the route with his film career; this film comes from filmmakers Edward Drake and Corey Large, two men who between them have made some of the worst films of Willis’ oeuvre – Breach, Apex Predator and American Siege; with only Cosmic Sin, the second of the trio’s collaborations, providing a modicum of interest.
Now those films featured Willis in cameo-like roles, whereas here Willis is the lead, the titular Detective Knight, in what is the first of three films in a brand-new film series. Three films! It looks, from Willis’ IMDb...

Hearthstone‘s new Throne of the Tides mini-set isn’t quite the game-changer that the Ccg’s full expansions usually are, but it still features enough new cards to shake up the competitive meta and open up some new deckbuilding possibilities.
As is usually the case with these mini-sets, Throne of the Tides certainly makes some of the game’s best decks just a little better than before. However, it’s clear that this expansion’s new cards will also help rescue a few deck archetypes that have struggled to really break into the game in a big way in recent weeks. How much it will end up shaking up the ranked play scene remains to be seen.

Zdf Enterprises and the U.K.-based Parsonage Productions are developing a new drama, “The Bronte Girls,” a fictional account of the last summer which the three Bronte sisters spent together.
The drama is based on the stage play of the same name by New York-based playwright Caroline Franklin (“Last Night at the Carmine”). Franklin will adapt the drama for the small screen with the British writer-director Darcia Martin.
The initial series, structured as a six-part drama, will be executive produced by Harvey Myman, Patty Lenahan Ishimoto and Patrick Irwin, who first worked together on A+E Networks’ U..K. period crime drama, “Miss Scarlet & The Duke.”
“The Bronte Girls” is set in the village of Haworth, Yorkshire, where Reverend Bronte’s three daughters, Charlotte (19), Emily (17) and 17-year-old Anne spent their last summer together as teenagers. Theirs was not a prim and proper youth, “The Bronte Girls” imagines, painting a...

Butter fears he can never tell Anna, his secret crush, who he really is – sure she would never accept him and his obesity. Meanwhile, Butter struggles with self-esteem and family issues, as his mother (Mira Sorvino) feels the only way she can show her love is by feeding him. Facing constant bullying at school, Butter finally devises a crazy plan: he announces he is going to eat himself to death, on New Year’s Eve, live on the Internet – with the whole school invited to watch.

"She's still in the house." Screen Media has released the first official trailer for an intense survival horror thriller titled Till Death, marking the feature directorial debut of S.K. Dale. Arriving this July in just a few more weeks. Megan Fox has been making quite a comeback in all kinds of off-kilter films recently, including Rogue and Midnight in the Switchgrass. The premise for this is just as crazy: After a romantic evening in their secluded lake house, Emma awakens handcuffed to her dead husband. Trapped and isolated in the dead of winter, she must fight off hired killers to escape her husband's twisted plan. Starring Megan Fox as Emma, with Callan Mulvey, Eoin Macken, and Jack Roth. This reminds me of the Stephen King story Gerald's Game, with a much darker side in the two guys there to take her out. Doesn't look half bad, I'd say. Here's the...

Mj Basset has always been a conservationist, beginning her career as a wildlife photographer and documentary filmmaker before making the jump to narrative features including Deathwatch, Solomon Kane and Silent Hill: Revelation. Over the past decade, Basset has shifted almost exclusively to working in television but of late, she's returned to feature filmmaking, mixing her passion for conservation with her other love: action movies.
This mixing of passions stared with last year's Rogue and continues with Endangered Species. The new feature stars Basset regular Philip Winchester and Rebecca Romijn as Jack and Lauren Halsey, a well-to-do American couple who take the family on a dream vacation to Kenya. Bridgerton fans can now put a face to the name of Edmund Bridgerton: Charmed actor Rupert Evans will play the family patriarch in Season 2, TVLine has learned.
Edmund is described as a loving and devoted husband to Violet Bridgerton (played by Ruth Gemmell), and an endlessly patient and kind father who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son, Anthony, through life. The character will presumably appear in flashbacks as Edmund has already passed away in the present day; the show hasn’t yet explained his demise, but in Julia Quinn’s novels on which the series is based, Edmund died of a bee sting.

The other family-imperiled-by-rampaging-beasts movie this weekend, “Endangered Species” is different from “A Quiet Place Part II” in many ways, particularly in that its characters cannot stop yakking — with corresponding diminished viewer concern for their survival under extreme duress. Mj Bassett’s South African-produced thriller has a vacationing American clan doing all the wrong things in a Kenyan wildlife preserve. Needless to say, the local fauna quickly notice there are some fresh snacks on the savanna, to our protagonists’ grief.
The squabbling human dynamics make this outdoor suspense exercise one in which too soon we start rooting for the four-legged cast members. Slick and scenic but increasingly silly, by the end it has become perhaps the most preachily wrong-headed wildlife conservation adventure since the notorious “Roar” 40 years ago. Lionsgate is releasing to digital, VOD and limited theaters, with Blu-ray and DVD following on June 1.

Writer/director Mj Bassett brought together her passion for filmmaking and natural history with 2020's Rogue and she's continuing down that track, this time with what appears to be a much larger budget, in Endangered Species.
Rebecca Romijn and Philip Winchester star as Lauren and Jack Halsey, a pair of wealthy Americans that decide to up the ante on their holiday by taking the family to Africa. The pair and their two children get more than they ever bargained for when an off-road adventure leaves the group stranded in the African desert with no car, cell signal, or water.
As if braving the elements and the wild animals isn't already bad enough, things get even worse for the family when they're picked up by a group of poachers led by Mitch Hanover (Jerry O'Connell).

"I'm no more equipped to deal with this than any of you." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an "intense, action packed survival-adventure" film titled Endangered Species, from director M.J. Bassett, of the other blatant "African animals are dangerous" film Rogue from last year. This one follows a wealthy American family who travel to the vast African wilderness of Kenya hoping for a dream vacation filled with excitement, bonding and a chance to fix the growing rifts within their family. But when their safari vehicle is attacked by a rhino protecting her calf, the family is left stranded miles from help and their dream vacation turns into a nightmarish struggle for survival where they're the bottom of the food chain. Starring Rebecca Romijn, Phillip Winchester, Jerry O'Connell, Isabel Bassett, Michael Johnston, Brenda Ngeso. Ayyy this looks like complete junk, vilifying all the animals more than the tourists who come to their home.

Not one, not two, but three agents saw their games go up in flames in Wednesday’s episode of The Challenge, which unleashed yet another security breach that put two veteran agents directly on the chopping block.
While two challengers left the Crater with crushed egos, the third ousted player was deemed medically unfit to continue. While we’d have to double-check the official Challenge record books, it seems Double Agents is (unfortunately) in the running to become the season with the most DQs/quits ever. Let’s recap the episode, shall we?

Indira Varma, who portrayed Ellaria Sand in HBO’s hit “Game of Thrones,” will appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi television series on Disney+.
Deadline reported on Monday that Varma will appear in the series, though details about her character are under wraps. That said, the casting detail is nonetheless a sign that progress is steadily continuing on the still-untitled series, which will premiere on Disney+. Varma, who also starred in recent television shows such as “Carnival Row” and “For Life” and films such as “Crisis,” will appear in the series alongside Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, who portrayed Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, respectively.
Most details about the Obi-Wan series, including specific plot points and a release date, are under wraps. That said, the film is expected to take place between the events of “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.

This month on Amazon Prime Video UK sees the final three episodes of Neil Gaiman fantasy drama American Gods arrive, along with the first three episodes of new comic book animated series Invincible, adapted from the books by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Movies-wise, there’s the sequel to John Landis’ 1988 comedy Coming To America, which follows the story of Eddie Murphy’s Prince Akeem as he’s drawn back to the US ahead of taking on Zamunda’s throne. Also, in his most anticipated role since he put on a beanie for those Kia car ads, Robert de Niro plays a granddad fighting with his young grandson over the use of a bedroom in The War With Grandpa.

The X-Men are coming to the MCU, but we might not be getting another movie based around the team as a whole for a while. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed that discussions to introduce mutants into the franchise are “long and ongoing,” which likely means that the studio is working out how best to deploy what’s essentially a whole other universe that’ll now exist within the MCU. A bunch of solo outings for iconic X-Men members are probably on the way, then, and one of the characters who may soon get the spotlight is Rogue.

Patty Jenkins will direct the next “Star Wars” feature film, titled “Rogue Squadron,” opening in theaters on Christmas Day 2023.
The original film will follow the fighter pilots across the “Star Wars” universe, though no additional details were revealed. Lucasfilm announced the news about Jenkins as part of Disney’s Investor Day presentation on Thursday.
The “Wonder Woman” filmmaker said on Twitter that she was inspired to take on the project of what will be “the greatest fighter pilot movie of all time” because of her own experience as the daughter of a fighter pilot in the military. In the video, Jenkins can be seen suiting up and walking toward an X-Wing.
Lucasfilm is currently developing another “Star Wars” feature with “Jojo Rabbit” director Taika Waititi, but “Rogue Squadron” is the first film with a firm title and release date.

Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House of Fun, Stateless, Love on The Spectrum and The New Legends of Monkey proved the most popular Australian titles on Netflix this year, both locally and globally.
Aunty Donna’s sketch comedy was particularly notable for spending almost two weeks in the Australian top ten while also trending in the US following its release in November.
However, it was the story of an American in the French capital that was crowned the most popular comedy series for the year, with Emily in Paris fulfilling the travel void for Australians in lockdown.
Other patterns to come out of the viewing data, taken from January until the end of November, include a rise in the popularity of Korean content in Australia, with shows such as Kingdom S2, The King: Eternal Monarch, and it’s Okay to Not Be Okay contributing to a doubling of viewing hours...

NBC marked Thanksgiving by rolling out the first teaser for its upcoming “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical.” Unfortunately, the very brief look at star Matt Morrison’s very campy version of the title character pretty much resulted in social media fingers nervously drumming and people vowing to stop Christmas from coming.
What we’re saying is, the teaser made a lot of people’s hearts shrink two sizes smaller.
Announced two weeks ago, NBC’s two-hour version of “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical!” will star Morrison (“Glee”) as The Grinch with Denis O’Hare as the adult version of his dog, Max, Booboo Stewart (“Descendants 3”) as young Max, and newcomer Amelia Minto (“The Lost Girls”) as Cindy-Lou Who. Unlike a lot of previous TV musicals, this one won’t be live (we assume because of Covid), and instead will be filmed at the Troubadour Theatre in London at some point before its Dec.

The team behind Fantastic Beasts 3 had to move quickly in order to find a replacement for Johnny Depp as Grindelwald with shooting already well underway, while also trying to secure an actor capable of inheriting the role of the villainous wizard that wouldn’t generate even more backlash from Depp’s army of fans, who were furious that he’d been dropped from the series.
It looks like the studio have struck the perfect balance, though, by approaching Mads Mikkelsen to become his replacement, with the actor having a dedicated and loyal following of his own, as well as a reputation for playing charismatic and engaging bad guys. The 54 year-old is one of the few names out there that fans would accept as a substitute for his predecessor, and the reaction to the news that he had entered talks was encouragingly positive.

M.J. Bassett knows how to pack a punch in a short amount of time. After her 2012 psychological horror film, Silent Hill: Revelation, underperformed critically and commercially, Bassett received an email from her friend and former collaborator Philip Winchester about directing Cinemax’s high-octane action series Strike Back. The exchange led to a meeting with the show’s producers, and within a couple years, Bassett had successfully revitalized her career as an “in-house” director on television’s most action-packed series. From there, Bassett was able to apply her skill set of creating cinematic action set pieces on a TV schedule to other genre shows including ...

Star Wars is well-known for including fun cameos in its movies and TV series, whether it’s James Bond actor Daniel Craig and Star Trek star Simon Pegg in The Force Awakens or Mark Hamill sneakily appearing in The Mandalorian. As fun as it is to watch new Star Wars stories, it’s almost as fun to try to catch the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos throughout.
Cameo fans woke up to a particular treat this morning with the season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian, which is titled “The Marshal.” While we get to meet a new character played by Timothy Olyphant, Cobb Vanth isn’t the only guest star in the episode’s 54-minute runtime. There’s also the actor who plays Gor Koresh, the gambling Abyssin informant who Mando meets at the start of the episode to get information on the whereabouts of other Mandalorian tribes.

When the high-octane action series Strike Back first appeared on the scene in 2010, superheroes didn’t have a stranglehold on the big and small screen. Even Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves had yet to reinvigorate their action careers through Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol and John Wick. In the early 2010s, if you wanted old-school, in-camera action entertainment, Strike Back was the preeminent source for it, especially once Cinemax became a co-producer and launched their second action series, Banshee, alongside it.

Exclusive: Keenan Tracey (Bates Motel), Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove), Natalie Malaika (Fractured), newcomer Morgan Holmstrom and Kristy Dinsmore (Vikings) are set as series regulars in Syfy’s Day of the Dead, based on George A. Romero’s classic zombie film, from Abbott Street Films and Cartel Entertainment (Creepshow). Additionally, horror filmmaker Steven Kostanski is set to direct the first four episodes and executive produce. Production is currently underway on the 10-episode series in Vancouver.
Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also will showrun, Day of the Dead is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. Though China was among the first in the world to restart film shoots in the wake of Covid-19, the number of projects going into production has been drastically reduced by the pandemic and its accompanying economic uncertainty.
Recent financial reports and public comments from China’s major studios reveal some trends in what to expect from those productions still in the pipeline. There will be a blast of coronavirus-themed films and patriotic content to mark next year’s 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party that are unlikely to make much of a dent abroad, a strong line-up of actioners and crime thrillers — some more hard-boiled and some more fantasy-based — and inventive animated fare with big ambitions, alongside a steady stream of rom-coms and titles from up-and-coming talent.

The newest trend in home viewing: the hot title that seems to come out of nowhere. This week it’s “The 2nd,” which jumped to #1 on the AppleTV and GooglePlay movie rental charts. An actioner starring Ryan Phillippe and Casper Van Dien would never register within film Twitter, but that’s not the ruling sensibility of VOD.
This week had a range of alternative offerings, led by the Disney+ debut of “Mulan.” At an estimated $200 million cost, it is by far the most expensive feature film to skip domestic theaters for Premium VOD. This is also the second week of “Bill & Ted Face the Music” (United Artists), as well as first for “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” the start of Netflix’s fall awards-intended original releases. All that comes as “Tenet” (Warner Bros.) began its muted run in the U.S. as it tries to bring struggling theaters into recovery.

Not long after actor Philip Winchester — who co-stars with Megan Fox in the new hostage-rescue film Rogue — shot the war drama Flyboys in 2005, he received an unexpected gift. “We were given this incredible wrap gift of a Breitling Colt because of the whole aeronautic theme of the movie. This past weekend, we had a trio of films that were released on a variety of platforms and streaming services: the survival horror film Centigrade, Mj Bassett’s latest action-centric project, Rogue, and Get Duked!, a wonderfully off-beat horror comedy from first-time feature director Ninian Doff. Here’s a look at my thoughts on this diverse trio of films that you can currently check out for yourself, all from the comfort of your own home (Centigrade is also currently playing in select drive-in theaters).
Centigrade: As a huge fan of tales of survival horror, Brendan Walsh’s Centigrade turned me into a tension-filled mess, and as the film progressed, I only got increasingly more and more stressed out for the film’s characters and their terrifying predicament. Walsh immediately throws viewers right into the thick of things, as the film opens with Naomi (Genesis Rodriguez) and Matt (Vincent Piazza...

The Premium VOD debut of United Artists’ “Bill & Ted Face the Music” topped charts from the moment it debuted August 28. As a mid-budget title that’s thriving at $19.99, it could be as important as “Tenet” in determining the shape of movie distribution. “Bill & Ted” didn’t see much theatrical play, but given its day-and-date debut it also didn’t have the option. About 1,000 independent theaters did play the title, where by our estimate it grossed around $1.1 million, or around $1,000 per theater.
That’s not a lot, but it’s better than Searchlight’s theater-only flop “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” Based on those two performances, UA made the right move: Searchlight devoted marketing spend to a disappointheatrical release that now must wait until November before it can play VOD.
“Bill & Ted” was first on all three possible charts. “Fatima” (Picturehouse), the other new PVOD entry, appeared on two.

For Rogue, co-writer/director Mj Bassett is taking audiences into some beautifully remote areas in Africa where a group of mercenaries, led by Megan Fox, must try and free a group of hostages from a dangerous group of warlords. This mission doesn’t go exactly as planned, and after the team finds themselves stranded in an abandoned lion farm, they must try and survive against the dangerous group of criminals hot on their trails as well as a lioness who has her own agenda.

It’s Friday, which means that a whole host of new movies are arriving on the various streaming and VOD services available to customers and subscribers, covering the entire spectrum of genres to appeal to almost every taste. A lot of fans are hoping that Disney will do right by the X-Men and bring them back in some way that will manage to impress everyone, but so far one of the best things that Disney could possibly do would be to bring back the animated version of the X-men that was so popular in the 90s. One of the last new books announced pre-pandemic was Black Widow from Kelly Thompson (Captain Marvel), Elena Casagrande (Catwoman) and Jordie Bellaire (lots of things that won Eisners). Now that comics publishing is chugging along again, Marvel is celebrating this book’s return to the schedule with a new trailer, and holy cats look at that hallway fight.
The book is teased as Natasha Romanoff’s end as Black Widow. In an interview about the book with Marvel from The Before Time, Thompson said “…’heartbreaking thrill ride’ is pretty fair but also hard to expand on without giving things away. I will say that there are incredibly personal stakes for Nat at that center of this story, and she’s going to lose a lot.” That loss is implied to be at the heart of Natasha’s choice to walk away from the game.

Exclusive: Spyglass Media Group has teamed with Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Michael Clear to develop a film based on the 1980s classic action series Knight Rider. Tj Fixman, a former video game writer, is adapting the screenplay.
Created by Glen A. Larson, Knight Rider first aired on NBC from 1982-1986 and boosted David Hasselhoff’s career. It’s about a high-tech car named Kitt that assists the mysterious crime-fighting driver Michael Knight (Hasselhoff).
The series amassed a significant cult following and spun more TV spinoffs, films, video games, books, and a Knight Rider convention known as KnightCon.
Plot details for this latest installment are being kept under wraps but we hear it will be a present-day take that will maintain the anti-establishment tone of the original.
Judson Scott will serve as executive producer.
As a video game scribe, Fixman wrote and developed Ratchet and Clank and Resistance: Fall of Man.
