A well told story, possessing pictorial qualities of unusual merit. The film is well worth seeing for the series of pictures alone. The scenes depicting life in the Caucasus are all interesting and the pictures give points selected for the background of the different scenes that are admirable. The capture and escape of the prisoner, with the love story interwoven with it, are good, but it does not appear why the girl was moved to commit suicide because the man she loved was gone. Not the slightest intimation is given that he does not intend to return, which makes the suicide seem altogether useless, or unfounded. The excellent pictorial qualities save this film. - The Moving Picture World, March 23, 1911
