THIS MAN DAWSON - Intimidation - 1959

This is episode 5 of the 1959-60 Police series, THIS MAN DAWSON. The series ran for a total of 39 episodes. Keith Andes headlines the series about an Ex-Military Officer hired to run a big city Police Department. The city is never named. Each episode starts and finishes with William Conrad doing the narration of the night's story.

Mobster Ted De Corsia is running a protection type racket. He hits up all the dry cleaning shops in the city for cash. They must buy their supplies from him at a large mark up or suffer various, "accidents". When one shop owner refuses to pay, De Corsia's men, Tommy Cook and Dennis Cross roast him alive by burning down his shop.

Police Chief Keith Andes knows that De Corsia is behind the murder and intimidation but cannot get any of the store owners to testify. He decides to set up a sting operation. He has a married couple of Police officers, Patrick Waltz and Jenna McMahon, rent some shop space and open a dry-cleaners. He also sends a man, Karl Swenson, in to work undercover at De Corsia's warehouse.

The plan works and Cross and Cook soon come a calling. They rough up Waltz and "suggest" he buy his supplies from De Corsia. Andes and his men have been keeping close tabs on the shop and gobble up Cook as he exits. Cross manages to hightail it back to De Corsia's warehouse. He warns his boss of the Police pinch and that they should both split. Andes and his crew however are quicker off the mark this time, and the two crooks are grabbed up. A long visit to jail on the State's dime is in their future.
