A good watch.
Sleepin_Dragon26 April 2021
Primary School teacher Gemma vanishes, prime suspect is her hot tempered, possessive boyfriend Greg. DC Martin King is on hand to view the comings and goings from the flat opposite.

When I see the name Ed Whitmore, I'm hooked, some amazing writing credits, my hopes for this were high.

I'm not too sure you could say it's a classic, but it's very well done, the story is intriguing, and we have a list of possible suspects. There are moments when you have to suspend your disbelief, but after all it's TV.

I love the format, great that it's on over five nights, there are several dramas on, and it does get a little confusing, I like this five straight nights idea.

It's of course well made, but nicely acted too, a strong cast, and it's great to see Noel Clarke and Alexandra Roach in lead roles.

Very watchable, 7/10.

Hope it gets better

I'm a little confused. I've just started watching episode 1 and can't understand how zooming in with the camera and using the monocular to get the car number plate are different. If it was visible with one it was visible with the other.

Pretentiously convoluted, but lacks some basic logic

That's no way a magnetic car tracking device would be placed on the very bottom rear of chassis...At the first big bump on the road, it would fall...

Uninteresting, boring, lazy, dull, bland writing.

Warning: Spoilers
I'd like to understand how this script came to be. They seem to have a decent budget, but couldn't come up with a weaker, lazier story if someone wacked them in the head with it. What on earth happened here?

The actors are more wooden than Pinocchio - who at least has a soul - and look like they're all about to fall asleep mid-sentence. The only saving grace was Bronagh Waugh, who seemed to be the only functional human around.

HOW and WHY would a professional get immediately tangled with someone who knew the victim and make such rookie mistakes? It's laughable. The single mother arc is tired at best - she clearly has a comfortable living situation. You're bored? Get a job, volunteer, do something. And why did they not analyse the whole building? I just..... what on earth.

This is lazy and shameful writing. We could be having more McDonald & Dodds episodes instead, also with far better main actors.

Pretty obvious who done it.

Warning: Spoilers
It's got Phil Davis in it, he always plays the wrong'un.

I write this after the first episode, so have no real insight for the story, but Phil Davis, when's he ever been the good guy?

Otherwise it's a solid 7/10 for the 1st episode.

Absolutely Brilliant
K3nnet1 May 2021
The UK have mastered writing and producing TV dramas. Who would have expected that a TV series about a surveillance unit would be this entertaining. I actually binged on it.

No need for overtly sexual characters, corny lines supposed to be funny or flamboyant characters. No need for fight or gun scenes to make it pop. Just conversation, great acting and a very good writing. Kudos to all involved. Alexandra Roach, I want to see more of her.

Too bad it had to end abruptly on a sad note. I understand folk complained because of the actions of one of the cast and the network had to respond (wouldn't it be interesting to look into what goes on in their own offices?).

Anyway I am interested in more of such dramas and a lot more of Alexandra Roach. This one was indeed absolutely brilliant.

Does nobody do any research anymore?
Flash-3074728 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The writing seem sloppy, the surveillance officers are portrayed as being inept at best- Running out of battery on the camera? Arguing over whose turn it is to work a shift? No back up when working individually?

Woman goes missing, but the police don't even think to look at her phone records until they view a CCTV recording of her... on the phone?

Police take up residence on the flat of a friend/ associate of the suspect?

Police spend more time watching the (intimate) goings on of the neighbours than of the suspect?

It's just rubbish....

ITV Woke
simon_williams917430 April 2021
I see the cancel culture is raising its head, and cancelled the final episode of this gripping series with a really good cast and script.

People has the sense to make their own mind up on whether they feel the need to watch it or not.

But I think this was a really good series.

Not bad at all
dlgvanleeuwen6 March 2022
The first two episodes it went nowhere. But from the third the storyline picked up for me.

As always, they could have told the story in less episodes.

But it wasn't bad at all.

Boring
terry170130 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is truly awful, it's dull, boring and their is absolutely no drama. We gave up half way through episode 3. The scenes are predictable and story not original. The characters are one dimensional boring to watch and basic dialogue. No research was done in actual police procedures. They didn't search the house, look at all phone records and laptops. They didn't interview anyone else. They went straight into surveillance. I'm sure this is not how it is done.

The writers should be ashamed for this rubbish.

Series just good but Dominic Allburn was great!
osg-358831 May 2021
Like in title. I think the biggest winner here is Dominic Allburn, who was great as a Carl Tuckman and I hope, we will se him soon in other new productions.

Oh ITV. It's just not your year
studioAT28 April 2021
Poor old ITV. You almost feel sorry for them. They seem to want to make every drama the same, promote it in the same way, and expect us all to love it.

And time and time again we all conclude that we've seen everything this drama has to offer better elsewhere.

The ever lovely Alexandra Roach is the only saving grace.

Let's have a story where the police know what they're doing instead of being complete muppets.

Irritating lazy script. Completely unbelievable and cliched rubbish.

Where is the drama?!
charlieabush28 April 2021
This is a really slow burn. The dialogue is at best pedestrian with conversations about nothing. The police force terminology and script is laughable - I'd stick with line of duty. Characters are surface level and there are zero visuals or scene setting. Mundane.

Thurrilly enjoyed, annoyed but relieved I had to watch last ep on demand
MattHankinson2 May 2021
ITV (originally) showing this over 5 nights was genius. It really made me invest in the show and look forward to the next episode.

There were a few things in the series which irritated me for example the police were a little unprofessional and jumped to conclusions. It's like they tried to make their own story up instead of trying to see what was infront of them and originally treated Greg as if he was guilty before he was proved innocent.

It's a little Far fetched as surely nobody would have all windows open all time and just happen to only do stuff in plain view of camera, however I understand it has to be like this for the show to work. Catherine Tyldesley's accent is excruciating throughout.

However I am relieved I got the chance to watch the show on demand after ITV's ludricrous decision to take the last ep of air due to allegations against one actor, and there were some great twists and turns especially in the last episode which always kept you guessing.

Not gripping
paul-rose7-246-6182327 April 2021
Why the best actor in the cast Phil Davis hardly features is a mystery given most of the other actors are weak. The script is very slow and poor versus other ITV crime offerings. I can't really recommend this.

Poor production all round
dave-ditchburn1 May 2021
Attempt at moody and atmospheric means lots of frowning faces and cliches trying to make up for a mediocre script absolutely chock a block with procedural errors.

Some excellent supporting actors totally wasted.

I watched it through expecting the intriguing unexpected twist that never came before the drab ending.

Many police dramas go for the quirky eg Vera which we know can't be true but remain for some, entertaining. Others such as unforgotten or line of duty play it closer to reality and are equally as entertaining. This one falls and fails in the middle ground.

This is perfect to settle into for an evening. Taut, atmospheric and fab to see Manchester on the screen. Dominic Allburn as Carl Tuckman is excellent. Really looking forward to seeing him in more shows.

Some people want quick solutions
francespen27 April 2021
I agree tashadaviesjj. The clue was in the outline of the story - surveillance - so no screaming tyres, no car chases, no running after suspects. The watcher needs patience - not just us - but the actual people doing it. Everyone now wants things sorted out in a couple of days, which doesn't always happen. One thing did amuse me though did none of these folk have curtains/blinds at their windows therefore allowing anyone to be able to see straight into their home.

Ignore the under 5 detractor action junkies, this is taut
rich-mac29 April 2021
As mentioned earlier, this about surveillance and a snapshot of the lives of people caught in the viewfinder alongside the surveillance target. Are they significant or a sideshow? It's not an action based cop show - as such it's methodically paced and appropriately subdued.

This is a taut drama with an accomplished ensemble and some clever interweaving plot lines that offer a number of viable alternatives - from crime of passion to organised crime.

It's all been done before
mteague-2970428 April 2021
Damaged protagonist, not playing by the rules; nosy neighbour, playing detective; victim with a secret life, it's all been done before & a hell of a lot better than this! Also, they seem to be watching everyone, but the suspect! If you haven't started watching, yet, I'd give it a miss!

Viewpoint, should be Nopoint
liverbird2830 April 2021
After much eye-rolling during episode 1, we embarked on episode 2 in the hope that there would be fewer plot holes and better acting. Alas, it was not to be so we gave up halfway through. I was going to say ITV might as well lock up and go home, but they did give us Unforgotten so I guess they can get it right on occasion. Viewpoint is one of the most ridiculous, badly written dramas in years, that even Phil Davis couldn't rescue. One star because 'nil point' isn't allowed.
