CPD is still CPD
miami_g25 May 2021
Since the beginning CPD is always showing the difficult choices that come with police business while staying realistic. That is what I always loved about the serie.

Keep up the good work.

Keeping up the standard
akicork5 February 2023
A brave start to the new season, obviously with story arc follow-ups to come. It confronts several problems that to the rest of the world have been apparent in the USA for decades. Racism, gang culture, vigilantism, over-reaching violence from the police, and others. In Kevin Atwater's story arc he comes up against the "blue wall" which consolidates several of these problems. That all police have to support all other police, no matter if they're wrong, if you don't you get punished - gang culture. That anyone is above the law - vigilantism. That police can do what they like in pursuit of a criminal... Your Honour, I rest my case. The agencies of a country governed by laws must adhere to these laws, or the country falls into chaos. (I have to accept that the situation in the US is a bit more complicated, having federal laws and state laws that don't really agree, and an out-of-date constitution that cannot reconcile the two in modern conditions - population mobility, racial and gender equality, general change in ethical standards, advancement in medical and forensic techniques, etc.) Atwater is standing out against this cancerous culture in his way, as Voight was in his. I think the most telling moment of this episode is the scene of Voight sitting alone in the office, all his team having gone. He's not going to change (much) but his time has gone. It's time to pass the baton. It's interesting that this episode attracts so many reviews (23 at this count) when the normal for the series has been zero to six. You can judge for yourself whence these negative reviews are coming. God bless America! Except that the US is supposed to be a religion-free state, as per the first amendment to the Constitution... So maybe I should retract that blessing? Like I said, the Constitution needs a serious review.

A real positive change
zenmateisshite12 November 2020
It is very difficult to address the current situation. These are things we all knew but they are just now coming to the surface. The writers did a very good job of balancing out the situation.

On one side a black cop trying to keep his ethics against a blue wall. On the other side an old school cop not able to follow "the code" anymore and struggling to achieve justice doing it the right way against really evil criminals.

You can check my other review from years ago, it is talking about the exact same thing they accuse Voight of doing. No, we are not woke, these wrong behaviors are very clear to anyone observing from outside the US and it is unacceptable in many countries.

Dealing with BLM
thedudebryant13 November 2020
Great at showing both the difficulty that cops face and the systemic problems with the blue line. The police need to be held accountable but are sometimes hamstrung by situations. Oh and it definitely triggered some racists that think it's ok for the cops to beat folks indiscriminately.

A good episode BUT
tezzahols14 November 2020
I hope chicago PD doesn't fall into the snowflake touchy feely rubbish like Swat has, while it deals with BLM which has been taken over by criminals, i enjoy the show it's more realistic than other shows, the English make better cops shows, so maybe the studio should watch some, so this show doesn't become a political snowflake show and keep it as a good action show

Warning: Spoilers
Atwater visited his og in jail for advice.

The elder told him to stand down, as he's "..no martin luther king.." then they show kevin in the interview room and he's telling the fake story.

Then they pan to voight behind the door.

Then they're in the office toasting.

Episode/season ends.

Did i not watch that?

This new season starts wirh atwater telling the truth.

Tired of all this political crap! Ever heard of "You do the crime you do the time!" Or how about this one? "Actions have consequences".

Boring, but less because of its "wokeness" and more because of its writing
To be honest, I didn't expect much from this episode after I read its reviews. However, I find that they focus their criticism on the wrong area. The episode wasn't bad because of its "political correctness", because it did address real issues and problems that the CPD has both in the show and in real life. It was bad because the way that these themes were approached were kinda boring.

There was no tension and barely any focus on the usual criminal storyline, to the point where I watched the episode 1 hour ago and I already forgot most of what even happened. Although I found Kevin's storyline much better, it also felt quite exhausting to watch (which is a shame, since he's my favorite member). I ended up scrolling on my phone at the end of the episode because it just wasn't that engaging.

I find conflict fun to watch in shows, and its why I love Chicago PD so much; the writers are very good at balancing the storyline and the tension and conflict together. But this episode felt like they tried to punch way too much into one episode instead of spreading it throughout a couple of them in order to not overwhelm the criminal storyline.

Get Woke, Go Broke!
johndoemofo19 November 2020
Chicago PD was great because the cops were willing to go the extra mile, break a few rules, to get the bad guys. Now they want to flip the script and go PC? You must think this is the 1960s where there are only 3 channels. Now more than ever we are all willing to drop a show on a dime, regardless how long we've been watching. This better get back on track quick. I kinda knew something bad was going to happen after they got rid of Alvin Olinsky.

Tell me a story, draw me in, let me forget the world for an hour. That's what I ask.
lynne-2755616 November 2020
I've watched Chicago PD since its very first show. It's been one of my absolute favourites and I was so looking forward to the new season.

Now, more than ever before, when evening finally comes and I get to have my tv time, I NEED TO ESCAPE into a story, be absorbed in it for that hour of relaxation and entertainment. Having that relief from reality to look forward to every day is a huge help to me in coping with the present day's ugliness that bombards us from every direction all day, every day.

I only hope that the rest of the shows I depend on aren't going to let me down as badly as Chicago PD has.

Entertain me.
rlrohan15 November 2020
I have watched Chicago PD from the beginning and was entertained until this first episode of this season. Enough about BLM and covid and equality. I see that every day and am sick and tired of it. If the show can't entertain me anymore then I am done with it.

NOT A CHICAGO PD THAT I LOVE
Mahajke232 January 2021
I have been watching Chicago pd almost from the beginning and I love Hank Voight. I like his old school approach and I think that he shouldn't change. I think that it is important that they address racism but Hank should still do things the way he used to because sometimes there is no other way like it was in this episode and he really disappointed me at the when he just didn't do anything.

Exhausting to watch
februarywinds12 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Addressing Black Lives Matter is important, but I hope this season isn't focusing only on Atwater, Voight and Ruzek as Atwater's partner/friend. I would like to see how Intelligence is handling the upcoming issues (police brutality, racism, reform) as a family. Hailey is back... such a pity it wasn't even mentioned.

No not PD
hutchirray12 November 2020
I have watched PD from the beginning and have got a number of other people to watch it.I have always enjoyed it up until tonight. I am all for rights and equality but this was ridiculous. I am sorry but if the next episode is the as bad I am finished watching it. My kids and I were so looking forward to the new season and we all feel so let let down.

Criminals have all the power now-
Fargomoviecritic23 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just like society, everyone cries about crime and want to defund the police and then cry when homicide and crime rise! Ha! This show is now showing how criminals are getting away with crime and it's ok. The police are bad for letting people die but then bad for trying to find who was responsible. Criminals don't change no matter what you do in the movies or real life. Prove me wrong, what has changed with the millions thrown at the cause. Strap up and take the law into our own hands. Pretty much what I see as the theme. Voight is the only one who gets it.

So typical and repeated
azmogroupon16 November 2020
Sorry to see that Dick Wolf had to make up some weak BLM stories as some sort of "deal" to keep both Chicago PD and Law & order SVU from being "canceled" following all "irrational" decisions after events of this year. Such a shame for Dick Wolf products which always had strong stories.

That was as a poorly written episode as I've ever seen. Both story lines fell incredibly short of the mark.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
rnhim201022 November 2020
One sided portrayal of racism. Leave it out of entertainment. And stop making all police officers appear to be bad people. The are targets more than anyone else.

Really?
TheSKYY6 December 2020
I mean I understand that BLM plays a roll but what Atwater did was really not ok and even it is not nice that he is now having a rough time, this is what you get when you stab your brothers in the back. He has all rights to behave differently, but being that stubbern shows that he is not a team player. I hope the series is not turning into a snowflake police force series. The Hank Voight way is the reason why we watch it!

Disgusting
ben-mason1028 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a disgrace. The morale of the story, police are above the law. Voight was a legend, telling Kevin to fold and give in the the blue wall is a disgrace, like he's a different character. He has always stood by his team and he has basically shot one in the back.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
edwindriscoll17 June 2021
It's too bad this series just fell off the cliff for me. I used to like the hard core cops and the way they got things done, now it seems they can't coddle the criminals enough (after all, you wouldn't want to hurt their feelings) I guess I can always go back and just watch Seasons 1- 7. The Kevin Atwater character needs to go. You can only whine and cry so much.

Just like 97% of the other reviews, I too have had enough of the feminist claptrap, political correctness, BLM, covid & all of the other political garbage! This is why I stopped watching several of my favorite shows! Just give me mind-numbing entertainment!

When the progressive bias is applied ...
claudio_aiello29 June 2021
Was applied the progressive bias to this chapter and it was a horrible show.

Very brave policemen turned into little girls.

And the bad guys won, it was the worst thing.
