Great episode

That scene with the Baldwins...masterful. I cried, I laughed, it was so good. The rest of the episode was also really good. It feels like an episode before the show really kicks off.

Billboard queen, tech genius and mom

A strong, powerful, relationship-driven episode on three fronts. Gordo and Tracy continue to be inextricably bound together despite the bickering tension between them and Margo throws an olive branch out to reunite with Aleida.

The pièce de résistance, though, is the moving scene with the Baldwins. Yet another superb performance from Shantel VanSanten ably supported this time by Joel Kinnaman portraying a heartrending array of emotions shifting through the scene.

Be Proactive!!
pamelatak7 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like this show a lot, BUT they are just too reactive instead of proactive. As soon as the Soviets started going into the US mine several episodes ago putting in monitoring cameras, why didn't they move the Base to be next to the mine entrance???? Or start working shifts??? They could have had a sub-base building near the mine entrance which would have been good for safety, no long treks back to Jamestown. And it could have been constantly manned. It would have made working shifts easier to manage AND it would have been easier to keep security next to the mine entrance. It is actually illogical to have to drive to and from the main site for every working shift. It uses too much fuel and too much time oxygen wise. Also, why haven't they constructed storage warehouses for this material they hope to be finding??

Bravura performance

The penultimate scene with the Baldwins is one of the most powerful scenes I've ever watched. Brilliant acting and so well written. I came to this series for the alt-history and the space science. I stayed for the drama.

One of the best acting scenes I've seen in a long time

Warning: Spoilers
Some spoilers ahead: Wow just wow. The scene near the end as the Baldwins break down remembering the death of their son as their daughter contemplates joining the navy has to be one of the most heart wrenching and well acted scenes I've seen in many a moon ( pun intended ). If you don't get emotional in this scene then your simply not human. This show continues to excel with the acting and the possible war on the moon keeps it tense. Probably the best show on tv right now. Friday's can't come fast enough.

Moments of Greatness
wyland-e-luke5 March 2021
This season itself seems to be moving at a slower pace as we catch up with the characters lives. But this episode contains some of the most poignant moments in all the series.

Best acting ever! Period!

Warning: Spoilers
The scenes at the end literally made me cry on a weekend, wasn't ready for it! The story the acting the connection the closure of Shane's death and the new beginning of their daughter, the fear of a parent! so freaking amazing! This episode can literally be used as a mean to show how modern families cope with pain and fear and worries and never openly discuss things. They let it all out and settled in with the closure this has to be one of the greatest scenes in the history of a television show no matter what genre this was exceptional and mind blowing! I wonder the chills and goosebumps the crew felt delivering the scene! Mind blowing I didn't even blink once before rating it a 10!

One of the best acting performances I've seen at the baldwins in the second half of the episode. Completes the beginning of the story for their family for the upcoming season. Overall great show and one of the top offerings on Apple TV+.

So little time spent in space.
tezby6 March 2021
As a number of other reviewers have noted, when the series is not set in space the rest of the time is devoted to the interpersonal relationships of the characters. Well one would expect at least some of this, at least for it to qualify as a drama rather than a pseudo documentary, this episode is where the series finally runs aground in tedious soap opera. The scene in which a family concludes a tense argument by singing a navy song together is simply risible. In what I suspect is a budget cutting exercise, the series has spent very little time in space this season and the drama of the alternate history is now in the background. What a waste of potential.

Armed astronauts and beer in bed. Will wonders never cease?

For All Mankind Season 2 Episode 3 explored the realities of the US/Russia situation on the moon, and it could get ugly. And Tracy's penchant for booze makes you wonder if she should be anywhere near the moon anytime soon, something we've already wondered about her ex, Gordo. There are some pretty shading happenings on the moon, and the US doesn't know how to deal with it, so we don't know what to make of it, either. But arming astronauts doesn't seem like a good idea, no matter how you slice it. The military was already all aflutter during the solar flare and had bantered around weaponizing one of the upcoming shuttles. So when astronauts discovered their gear displaced on the moon, it caused quite a panic. It seems the Russians took over a US mining area, leaving the US to ponder how to get it back and keep it. Reagan decided it was as easy as getting it back under our control. But the discussion around the table with everyone that matters proved it wasn't going to be that easy. Margo initially thought getting it back was imperative. Then Bradford stated the obvious. That ruffled Margo's feathers quite a bit and started talking about sanctions. It's hard to imagine what good sanctions would do on the moon, so far away from everything being sanctioned. Even Ed agreed that the only way to hold a position on the moon would be through force. Ed's in an interesting position, though, and it's one that he'd rather not be in. He has first-hand experience with his pal "Ivan," aka Mikhail on the moon. Mikhail wasn't the monster Ed would have expected, and without his help, he might not have successfully gotten off the moon at all. Kelly's desire to attend Annapolis, finding Shane's hiding space for his favorite toys and Ed's confusion collided for one hell of a family argument. It's hard to believe that Ed spent so long blaming himself and that he never properly grieved for the son he lost, but the confluence of recent events worked as a pressure s.

Overall I'd give this show a 6-7 so far, but this episode was an 11. Kovacs (watch Altered Carbon) and Karen nailed it.

Glad I found this

Enjoying For All Mankind. Speculative history is one of favorite genres. The characters are believable and interesting. The scenarios are compelling. I was 14 when Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon. One area of growth is the visibility. Forty years ago, I was a set and lighting designer. I did this for 11 years. The first rule of stage and film lighting is visibility. If the lighting is noticeable, then it detracting from the performance.

Second season turning into soap opera
gabore9-428-2226707 March 2021
After 3 episodes apart from the first the story barely moved on, mostly turned into a family drama and not a very interesting one. Also seems like characters age at different pace. Very disappointing so far, downhill from the first few minutes of the season when they show what happened since season 1.

Most boring episode so far
Metal_Robots3 April 2022
I really hoped season 2 would drop the extended soap opera portions and get to grips with the sci-fi, but alas this episode doubles down on the predictable domestic drama in living rooms and you get about three minutes of scenes on the moon, and even then it's still people sitting around talking.

The characters are empty slates, their behaviours and decisions change bizarrely by the minute until its hard to pin down their personalities, but that's because its all just to set up which ever soap opera-level dispute is coming up next, usually caused by the men who are still emotional wrecks, wrestling with their inherent male toxicity (natch) while all the self-sacrificial female heroes are saving the day on earth and in space with their scientific genius and bravery.

It's all getting a bit tedious, i'd hoped all that messaging would be over by now and we could finally get down to an exciting story about space exploration with practical equality between all the characters taken as a given so it doesn't need to be laboured upon any more, but by this point I don't think we're ever going to get it.

It really had kind of gotten excessive towards the back half of the first season. These characters actions don't make any sense.

As with all modern shows the writing is mid at best
jens-25722 April 2024
The people who write shows these days seem like a pale shadow of past writers, they imitate but what little original they add is usually terrible and detract from the final product, the rest of the production is okey but obviously it cannot compensate for the bad writing.

One option is to just turn off the audio and I promise that whatever dialog you imagine the actors saying is way better than what their lines actually are.

The show is fine as background noise if you are doing something else as the stupidity will be less offensive that way and if you are distracted enough you might not even notice.

Warmongering Americans
iankenny0126 August 2023
The American answer to everthing -more guns.

How sad that in alternative reality they are still hell-bent on starting a world war.

This time it's on another world -the moon.

No wonder mankind is doomed.

Let's hope the next episode gets back on track with the space programme instead of the patriotic flag-waving sosp opera of the naval family shenanigans.

I teally do not want to type any more so here is the US naval song lyrics to keep the uneducated blood thirsty patriots happy.

Videos Images News Books Maps Flights Finance All filters Anchors Aweigh / Lyrics Stand Navy out to sea, Fight our battle cry We'll never change our course, So vicious foe steer shy-y-y-y.

Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh.

Sail on to victory And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.

Farewell to foreign shores, We sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.

Through our last night ashore, Drink to the foam, Until we meet once more.

All is boring on the home front
blakekhodges1 October 2023
I fail to understand why the showrunners continue to give Shantel VanSanten such prominent scenes, when, sadly, it doesn't feel like the acting chops are there. This episode contains at least one such scene. As well intentioned as it is, it's just not something I can get over. Every scene with her just feels like a big ol wet ham fist smacking you on the head. And for an episode that features no scenes in space, the ham fist hits even harder. The show's team need to cut their losses and double down on the elements that make the show really work. In the meantime... I'm bored. Looking forward to getting back to space!
