As much of a fan as I am of 'Neighbours' I can't say that the 2008 period was a golden era of the show.
The reason for that is down to the characters.
Marco, Carmella, Rosie, Frazer, The whole Parker clan - none of them are any good. Obviously there's a sliding scale, but none would feature anywhere near the top of a 'best characters ever' list. They're all paper thin characters, and the actors giving them life don't seem to bring much either.
The concern is that by pushing this lot front and centre classic/iconic characters were pushed to the side-lines. Take poor Ian Smith as Harold here - two or so lines about cake of all things, and then back to Carmella's baby drama.
I'd rather have more about the cake.
