*here be major spoilers. Director: Jourdan McClure. Writers: Ryan Finnerty and Kevin Haskin. Cast: Michelle Page, Art Alexakis, Chris Coy, Michael Cudlitz, Lucinda Jenney, and Bill Moseley. Tagline: "Still waters run deep." Rogue River is the second project that this reviewer has seen from Kejo Productions. The other was a thriller titled Sensored starring Robert Picardo. Sensored was a entertaining outing. Rogue River is less thrilling and more predictable. Even a theme of incest only creates a few unsettling moments. This film, which clocks in at a mere eighty-one minutes, is not really recommended for horrors fans seeking something really frightening. The film follows Mara (Michelle Page) on her journey to bury her father's ashes. She is interrupted by a friendly man, Jon (Bill Moseley). He wants to help her after her car has been stolen. Or, does he want to help himself to Mara when he has her back at an isolated cabin?...

Stricken WallpaperDirector/writer: Matthew Sconce.
Stricken is a film from director Matthew Sconce and Aftershock Studios. The film has recently been completed and Stricken has toured several film festivals, including the Action on Film International Film Festival. This feature won the Best Horror Film for 2010 at this event and currently the film is seeking distribution in numerous territories. Starring David Fine (Sensored) and Stephanie French, Stricken uses dark lighting, a foreboding atmosphere and Celtic mythology to tell a tale horror tale of curses and slaughter. Also, Stricken is important for showing that unfortunate events which effect the father or mother do not need to impact the offspring.
The film takes place in a small town where a tight knit family has been reduced to one through brutal suicides. Revealed later, this family has been cursed with an ancient Gaelic spell, which turns people against themselves. The "Celtic goddess of slaughter...

Stricken Concept PosterThe independent thriller Stricken had an appearance at the Action on Film International Film Festival in late July of this year and Stricken won Best Visual Effects at this event along with Best Horror Film. Post-production on the film was completed in June, so expect to see this film at festivals throughout 2010.
Stricken stars David Fine (Sensored), Stephanie French, Christina L. Tellifson, and Brett Gipson. The film's sub-plots involve suicide, hauntings, and murder. Have a watch of a first teaser clip for the feature, where the dead come back to life for a little fun and bloodshed.
The synopsis for Stricken:
"After her mother's death and her father's brutal suicide, 25 years old Sarah Black fears she is losing her grip on reality. She is haunted by nightmares and terrifying visions, and she can't shake the feeling that something evil is about to find her. When people she cares about start to die,...

Sensored DVD Art
*Here be spoilers.
Director: Ryan Todd.
Writer: Kevin Haskin.
Producer: Jo Haskin.
Sensored is a film from Kejo Productions, which had a DVD release April 6th, 2010. The film is being distributed by Hannover House and this is director Ryan Todd's first time behind the camera. Written by Kevin Haskin and produced by wife Jo, Sensored is a character study of a writer and the imaginary processes of writing. The addition of interesting characters, horrifying, tortuous scenes, and a plot device involving a CIA interrogation agent are all a device to show the infinite possibilities of creativity.
The film begins with the introduction of a well dressed Robert Picardo as Wade Mixon. The next several characters introduced are figments of the mind and, really, characters of Mixon's, or writer Kevin Haskin's, imagination. This insight will come for most viewers in the middle as secondary character's seem...

It's a bloody week of DVD offerings with Blood Ties: The Complete Series, Blood Red Moon, and Blood Forest all hitting store shelves on Tuesday, April 6th. Throw in The Damned, the film adaptation of Stephen King's Dolan's Cadillac, along with some Malpractice and Taxidermia, and we've got one hell of an eclectic mix to choose from.
The pick of the week is little tricky. We would say The Collector since fans have been waiting so long for it to hit DVD and Blu-ray, but we're not sure the payoff is really worth it. Maybe Tony? We've heard good things regarding this UK import about a London serial killer, but we don't have our official review up yet. And then there's Robert Picardo's newest, Sensored, about a children's book illustrator who inhabits a twilight world of shifting reality and illusion. For now we'll leave it open and see what you guys think.

At the 2010 Gasparilla International Film Festival, one of the themes going through my mind was, "So many films, so little time." Every night, the festival had at least one or two features that highlighted the night. Screening before each feature length flick were shorts (films 20 minutes or less). Many of those were produced right here in Tampa. We'll get to those later this week.
Being a movie reviewer and apart of critic associations, all the new releases come my way. What you may not know is that many of these wide releases one sees in the theater, started out in film festivals just like the ones being discussed here. Instead of doing the usual formal review that my readers have become accustomed to. We are giving these flicks the capsule review treatment. Hopefully a formal review will happen if these flicks get picked up by studios for a wide distribution.

The synopsis for Sensored:
"Children's book author Wade Mixon is trying to keep his frayed mind from unraveling. His stability and lucidity are in question, and his thoughts are increasingly being invaded by the terror of this murderous past and present. Wade's battle with his own demons causes him to believe there is a conspiracy against him.

*A producer has informed me that the release date for Sensored has been pushed back to April, 2010.
Sci-fi star Robert Picardo is making his way into the horror genre with upcoming roles in Trail of Blood, Awakened, and the recently completed Sensored. Sensored involves author Wade Mixon developing delusions after his mind is "invaded by the terror of his murderous past" (Sensored). This film will be on DVD and Blu-ray formats February 2nd (see above). Fans of horror will want to check out this trailer for Sensored, as Robert Picard, a Star Trek and Stargate Sg-1 alumni, suffocates, tortures, and basically makes a bloody mess of his basement and neighbours. A full synopsis and further details are below.

This scribe caught up with actor and all-around nice guy Bill Moseley(The Devil’s Rejects), who's adding yet another genre notch to his already prolific career in horror.
"I'm up here in Grants Pass, Oregon, shooting a sick and as yet uncovered movie called 'Rogue River'," the actor informed us. "It's directed by Jourdan McClure - remember that name! – and it stars me, Michelle Page (Sensored) , Michael (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) Rooker, and my real-life girlfriend (television actress) Lucinda Jenney."
Filming until December 20th, first-time filmmaker McClure is shooting from a script penned by screenwriters Kevin (Sensored) Haskin and Ryan Finnerty. Dread did some dredging of Rogue River, and here’s the upshot: The film revolves around the plight of Mara (played by Page), who, while scattering her father’s ashes, makes the acquaintance of a seemingly benign man named Jon (Moseley). Appearances are deceiving,...
