The two ads for Bank's Bitter, "Dave" and "Megastar", were the debut British television commercials of actor Roger Moore.
Banks's Bitter spokesperson, Jeremy Eaton, said of the commercial's star Roger Moore: "He'd have a couple of pints on the set and would still be asking for a can after the filming had finished. But he was very disappointed to see that Banks's wasn't being served in a lot of the Irish bars and that it wasn't on sale in Switzerland. So he asked if we'd mind sending over a few crates to him in Gstaad and he was delighted when we agreed. He's not a big drinker by any means but he knows a good tipple when he tastes one and recommended us to his son who has just opened a plush restaurant in London."
The media reported that from his research for the role in the two commercials star Roger Moore got to like Bank's Bitter so much that he got hooked on the ale.
The creative concept and philosophy for the two ads was to "get Roger Moore to star in his first ever UK TV commercial and say 'very moreish' NOT 'very moreish' thus getting around BACC legal ruling" according to Ad Forum.
According to Ad Forum, the "client [Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries] wished to say his beer was 'moreish'. However, BACC (TV Legal Body) won't allow this."
