Back to Life

Warning: Spoilers
Granny Chiyo continues the reanimation jutsu to bring Gaara back to life. Seemingly only Kakashi, Gai and Sakura know what she's doing, Neji instead watches but can't figure it out. Naruto misunderstands Chiyo's intentions, so Sakura stops him and tells what she's doing. He's surprised but understands when he looks at the seriousness in Sakura's eyes. Chiyo realizes she has not enough chakra to finish the reanimation, so Naruto, who notices this, goes with her and helps by putting his hands upon her to give needed chakra (Sakura sees this and silently thanks him for helping Chiyo). As the process goes on, Chiyo gives her last words. She remembers what Kakashi said about why Naruto is desperate to save Gaara, and about how Naruto has the special personality which allows him to befriend anyone, and change their hearts. Chiyo tells him she's glad that she met him, since she always mistrusted people from other villages and helped to create a cold shinobi world. She also tells him to become a great Hokage, and to look after Gaara, since they both know each other's pain. She trusts him to change the shinobi world, since he is kind enough to change people's heart. She also speaks to Sakura, praising her kindness, and asks her to keep helping people, but the ones close to her heart, not an old woman who is about to die (that line brings the tears). She also tells Sakura that she may surpasss Tsunade. Chiyo then dies, glad that at the end of her life she did something good, unlike in the past. These moments were brilliant, with a memorable score, some of the greatest of Shippuden. Chiyo's life could be compared to other ancients like Onoki (the 3rd Tsuchikage), the 4th Raikage, Danzo. These persons believed in a world where feelings are not important, they ruled always mistrusting the other villages, giving value to power, control, all for the sake of their own people. But they didn't see beyond that, what happens, how the other person feels. Chiyo and the 4th Kazekage didn't see the damage they made to Gaara during his childhood. The 3rd Raikage slowly forgot how Killer B was feeling, and what he was thinking. And so, Chiyo's speech said it all, the mistakes she made in the past, and her hope that Naruto and Gaara can change, lead new generations. Her words for Sakura were also perfect, she acknowledges how the girl always tried to help her, despite being old and poisoned.

Then, there's a time jump, and is showed how Gaara wakes up, and Naruto welcomes him. But now many people from Suna is present, as Temari and Kankuro, while Chiyo is being held by Sakura. Everyone is happy because the 5th Kazekage is alive, including Gaara's apprentice (from the supposed last filler episodes of Naruto), Matsuri, and another girl who now are joyful. Naruto tells him how worried they were, and when Gaara thanks him, he looks at Chiyo. Now, here I can complain about something. Naruto seemingly thinks that Chiyo fell asleep after saving Gaara. I mean, why the writer wants to make Naruto so dumb here??? His naivety is beyond limits??? Chiyo was saying a farewell to him, there's no way he wouldn't guess what was about to happen, especially by looking at Sakura's eyes. Naruto actually knew what happened. This was out of the episode, I know Naruto sometimes misses things, but this is Shippuden, he's not a kid anymore. It kind of ruined the dramatic moment. Kankuro then explains Chiyo's jutsu, that was forbidden on puppets because the risks for the person's life. Anyway, as everyone suddenly realizes Chiyo's sacrifice, Sakura cries, as Ebiso remembers how his sister pretended to be dead before Baki called them. Then, Gaara asks to make a pray to honour her. About this, Gaara's reaction is reasonable. He's not happy, he feels bad because someone died for him. But he knows he can't do nothing about it, so he chooses to pray, and thanks the old woman on the other world. To finish, a special mention to Sakura's sadness. It's not that she wasn't glad about Gaara's revival, she was just sad because she lost like a grandmother. The fact that Sakura's parents family are basically never showed in the anime (only in movies, Road to Ninja), is not fair, it's terrible. So in the long fight vs Sasori, Chiyo treated Sakura like family. She was worried about her, and saved her each time she could from the poison, and the attacks. And Sakura also did everything to protect her, even though they barely knew each other. She was willing to sacrifice herself in order to save her. That bond was special, like a grandmother and grandchild. With all this, finishes the first arc of Shippuden. It had a few flaws, but overall, was outstanding, memorable.
