Billed the ‘Trollywood’ of the North for its close ties to talent, the leading Scandinavian regional film fund Film i Väst in Sweden’s Trollhättan has boarded the Noomi Rapace starrer “Mother, to be helmed by Macedonia’s Teona Stugar Mitevska.
The biopic, in which Rapace will play the legendary religious figure Mother Teresa, will mark the English-language debut of esteemed auteur Mitevska, credited for the 2019 Berlin entry “God Exists, Her Name is Petrunya”.
“I am Macedonian, and I grew up in Skopje- Mother Teresa’s birth place,” Mitevska told Variety. “I didn’t grow up religious, as it was Yugoslavia at the time and we were all atheist or existentialists, but I grew up in a vast family of strong dominant women, almost a matriarchy.”
The director says she got the idea for the pic while working on the docu series “Teresa and I” for Macedonian television, more than a decade ago.

One Piece chapter 1114 has finally revealed the alleged weapon, Mother Flame, and it has shocked the One Piece fandom. The Mother Flame, when introduced, had a lot of renditions that were supposed to be used for different purposes, like an unlimited energy source, but being controlled by Imu and the World Government, it is only being used for destruction.
The Mother Flame in One Piece | Viz Media
Not much is known about the mysterious power except the fact that it is incredibly strong and could wipe out entire planets. However, since its revelation in the latest One Piece chapters, many new theories have been devised by One Piece fans about the origin of Mother Flame and its overall role in the One Piece narrative.
One such theory connects the Mother Flame to Luffy’s Devil Fruit and points out that Luffy’s Devil Fruit is not a Devil Fruit but the opposite of it,...

The partnership between Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese has resulted in some of the most highly acclaimed films in Hollywood history, earning them both widespread critical acclaim. But do you know which movie marked the beginning of a groundbreaking collaboration that ultimately led to their success in the entertainment industry?
Robert De Niro was nominated for Best Supporting Actor
Well, it was none other than the 1973 crime drama Mean Streets that has been deemed as culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant to this date. De Niro’s portrayal of Johnny Boy Civello earned him high praise and accolades. However, all this might not have been possible, and this movie would have looked significantly different if De Niro had made a different decision.

Filmmaking was the domain of Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese before Joe and Anthony Russo turned it into a family affair. How? The director of Taxi Driver, 81, has worked on almost every movie in which his family was involved. Catherine Scorsese, his late mother, was one of his closest collaborators and made appearances in several of her son’s films.
Her most famous role, however, is that of Mrs. DeVito (Tommy’s mother) in the Robert De Niro starrer film Goodfellas. And Scorsese once shared a cute little fact about this cameo. Having said that, even though it is unquestionably a superbly made film, one of its most memorable scenes was still largely improvised.

Indeed, the dinner scene with Catherine Scorsese is unquestionably hilarious in this biographical crime drama film, and to make the scene even better, she improvised most part of it.

Boutique DVD/Blu-Ray label The Criterion Collection always has a terrific monthly line-up, and its August 2024 releases are no different. Highlighting late summer’s Criterion announcements are a pair of comedian Albert Brooks films that have been out of print on DVD for quite some time. It’s one of the great fallacies that comedy doesn’t need to look good. (Blame years of badly lit Apatow productions and nearly every modern studio release being 4K-shot eye torture.) A strong rebuke might be Criterion releasing Albert Brooks’ Real Life and Mother on 4K in August, a pairing that rings especially strong when placed side-by-side with the month’s other major release, Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor. Few would think to give these three titles the same format, but here we are.
Meanwhile, Martha Coolidge’s recently restored Not a Pretty Picture arrives on Blu-ray alongside two by Kira Muratova: Brief Encounters and The Long Farewell, a pair of lesser-seen works given a handsome package.

Maya Rudolph brought Beyoncé back to “Saturday Night Live,” reprising her impression to give Queen B another shot at the spicy chicken wing talk show “Hot Ones.”
Opposite Mikey Day’s take on host Sean Evans, Beyoncé returns for the challenging YouTube interview segment, cocky about eating the wings until they become uncomfortably hot. As things get more unbearable, she has increasingly difficult instructions for her assistant, played by Kenan Thompson.
“This wing is stompin’ my ass,” she says at one point. “Damn, my bones are hot. That wing was a real one. Ooh, you’re ’bout to make me sing — This ain’t Texas!”
Beyond the “Texas Hold ‘Em” nod, a highlight was Kenan enthusiastically squirting Beyoncé’s “$6,000 cocoa lotion” into her mouth to soothe the heat, a masterclass in bizarre physical humor.
Rudolph last played Beyoncé appearing on “Hot Ones” on a March 2021 episode of “SNL.” Before this new “Hot Ones” sketch,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 3, Episode 12, “Mother’s Day.”] When it comes to Mother’s Day, television is no stranger to tackling the holiday, and in the sitcom world, many plots tend to revolve around underappreciated moms being sweetly recognized by their families, which is what makes Abbott Elementary‘s new episode, “Mother’s Day” so important. Instead of putting an emphasis on the underappreciated mom (aren’t they all?), the episode focuses on two different grief journeys experienced by Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph). What sparks their story is Barbara noticing the lackluster Mother’s Day decorations outside Gregory’s classroom. When she inquires about the arts and crafts project, he tells her students put it together, but he didn’t pressure anyone to partake. When Barbara expresses disappointment, questioning if he’d show such a lack of appreciation toward his own mother, Gregory reveals that his...

The official trailer for "The Boys" season 4 just dropped, and it looks like some of the antiheroes in Prime Video's hit series are having a bit of an identity crisis. "Violence isn't brave," Jack Quaid's Hughie says at one point, noting that the titular kill squad should probably stop killing everyone if they actually want to save the world. Of course, in typical "The Boys" fashion, that nice sentiment is surrounded on all sides by violence: rooms full of dead bodies, a leg getting sawed off, and a guy going splat against a building, among other (gross) things.
That last kill will surely be of interest to fans of the series, as it's committed by Butcher's own stepson, Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), who's now under the tutelage of his biological dad, weirdo supervillain Homelander (Antony Starr). After he seemingly explodes a guy against a building, Ryan is rewarded with...

We have received a preview trailer and several posters, and today, a new proper trailer was released in preparation for the premiere.
The trailer highlights some new scenes and moments from the upcoming season, which is why we can share the excitement of all the fans as well. It is also a fairly long trailer, and based on what we saw, the season promises to be quite exciting!

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met for the fourth and final time during the 2023-2024 Broadway season on April 26, to discuss eligibility of 12 productions for the 77th Annual Tony Awards in 2024.
The productions discussed were: “The Wiz,” “Suffs,” “Stereophonic,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Cabaret,” “The Heart of Rock and Roll,” “Patriots,” “Mary Jane,” “Uncle Vanya,” “Illinoise,” “Mother Play,” and “The Great Gatsby.”
The most impactful decision of this announcement is the determination that both Steve Carell and William Jackson Harper will be eligible for Lead Actor in a Play for the Lincoln Center Theatre revival of “Uncle Vanya.” Most prognosticators assumed that Harper would contend in the Featured Actor race. This category switch means that Lead Actor in a Play will have a guaranteed five nominees. Emilia Clarke’s arc in Game of Thrones has been a subject of both fury and annoyance over the years — and for good reason. Be it her manipulative benevolence, or little by little transformation into the Mad Queen, or her full-blown turn to tyranny — Danaerys Targaryen’s journey has been a rollercoaster ride and her character remains an enigma whose first moment is as memorable as her last, and every second in between is just as remarkably imprinted on the audience’s memory.
Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones [Credit: HBO Entertainment]But even in a character as legendary as the Mother of Dragons, there exist moments of conflict that underline the HBO series because of the socio-political climate of the reality we live in. It is one such moment that had Emilia Clarke breathing a sigh of relief while filming a particularly seductive scene on the show.

Jennifer Lawrence has had a prolific career over the years and has shown her versatility as an actress starting from her first few projects. She made her breakthrough role playing Ree in Winter’s Bone. Lawrence went on to star in various acclaimed projects including American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, The Hunger Games and the X-Men franchise, and Joy.
Jennifer Lawrence became the 2nd youngest Best Actress Oscar nominee for her role in Winter’s Bone
Her most divisive and controversial film was her 2017 film Mother!, directed by Darren Aronofsky. The film was inspired by the Bible and had the actors playing various characters and elements mentioned in it, and Lawrence was the one who had to do most of the heavy lifting. One scene proved to be too much for the actress, and she decided that she would never return to that character ever again.

The Real Housewives of New York City alum Jill Zarin has been making headlines thanks to her appearance on Below Deck.
Jill was a lot to handle on the hit-yachting show, with her entitlement and obnoxiousness coming through strong.
Below Deck viewers were not here for Jill’s behavior, putting the former Real Housewives on a serious blast after the show.
Ahead of her second and final episode of Below Deck, there’s a lot of speculation regarding just how wealthy Jill really is.
After all, she said more than once to the St. David crew that she’s an experienced yachtie, aka making an excuse for being demanding.
We have done some digging to answer that burning question of Jill’s wealth.
What is Rhony alum Jill Zarin’s net worth and how did she make her money?

Sebastian Stan is exploring roles beyond the shadow of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and making quite a good impression out of it. Also, it seems the actor has a newfound interest in the horror genre. Stan appeared in two horror movies recently, including Mimi Cave’s Fresh and his most recent A Different Man.
Sebastian Stan in A Different Man
Stan has tested his tolerance level for a role as well. While his appearance in horror movies is well adjacent to the actor, one horror movie frightened the MCU star. Jennifer Lawrence, who led the movie, also endured intense nightmares.
Mother! “Hyperventilated” Sebastian Stan Sebastian Stan in A Different Man
Darren Aronofsky is one of the Hollywood directors who has created a legacy by making some of the most disturbing movies, including Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and Mother! Particularly, Mother! was frightening, and its disturbing elements were not exclusive to the audience.

The Critics’ Week section of the Cannes film festival has set Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen as the president of the jury for its 63rd edition.
Sorogoyen is known for films including “Stockholm” in 2013, “The Candidate” in 2018, and “The Beasts” from 2022. The Beasts last year earned him the best foreign film prize at France’s Cesars awards. Sorogoyen also wrote and executive produced TV series “Antidisturbios.”
“It is a big responsibility, one that I look forward to very much,” said Sorogoyen in a Spanish-language video message posted to social media. “The Critics Week supports and rewards directors’ first and second feature films as well as short films, thus providing vital support to cinema, new voices and new ways to tell stories. Without these new voices there would be no new cinema. They’re the ones who make it live and make it work.”

The two actors will star alongside the screen icon in Oh. What. Fun., an Amazon MGM holiday comedy that hails from director Michael Showalter, who is behind the studio’s upcoming Anne Hathaway romantic drama The Idea of You.

By the time they realize their mistake, she’s gone missing and their Christmas is in jeopardy. Luckily, nothing will stop Claire from giving her family the holiday they deserve.

A year and a half ago, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. Now we know when we’re going to have a chance to see this movie, as Variety has confirmed that veteran producer Bob Yari’s new company Magenta Light Studios has secured the U.S. distribution rights to the film and they’re planning to give it a wide theatrical release on August 23rd.
Plot details on this thriller are being kept under wraps, and Variety notes that reviews from audience members who saw the movie at Fantastic Fest last year ” hint that the film works best with as little information as possible going in.” Apparently it has something...

After Blue (Bertrand Mandico)
In the post-apocalyptic nightmare of After Blue, humanity—or what’s left of it—roams a former paradise turned wasteland. The Armageddon that wrecked the Earth in some undetermined past left no machines behind, no screens, and, perhaps most conspicuously, no men. In the distant planet the human race fled to, and which writer-director Bertrand Mandico’s film is named after, “they were the first to die,” we’re warned early on: “their hairs grew inside them, and killed them.” As it was for its predecessor, The Wild Boys, After Blue is suffused in a feverish ecstasy, that wild excitement that comes from a watching one world crumble and another jutting into being from scratch, a vision of...

Some Beatles fans might be surprised to know that John Lennon’s mother, Julia Lennon, did not raise him. Instead, he was raised by his aunt, Mimi Smith. John had some major issues with his parents and he worked them into his music.
John Lennon never adulated his mother
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. During the interview, the “Imagine” singer had quite a lot to say about parents. “Some people cannot see that their parents are still torturing them, even when they are in their forties and fifties — they still have that stranglehold over them and their thoughts and their minds,” he said.
“I never had that fear of and adulation for parents,” he added. “Well, that’s the gift of being a so-called orphan — which I never was at all. My mother was alive...

It was this past November — when CBS’ NCIS like most of TV was still on a strikes-extended hiatus — that Sean Murray marked the 20th anniversary of his debut as Special Agent Timothy McGee.
McGee in that span of time has become a husband… a father (to twins, whom apparently no one on the cast can name!)… and a lead agent, in the wake of Tony Dinozzo’s May 2016 departure. And yet there is still at least one more major life event on tap for Tim, when the next NCIS episode reveals a heretofore-unknown relative!

With four TV and film projects in as many years, few filmmakers right now are more prolific than Hirokazu Kore-eda.
The veteran Japanese filmmaker behind titles like the Palme d’Or-winning Shoplifters and Still Walking continued his hot streak after landing his third directing honor from the Asian Academy Sunday night for his last feature, Monster. Biopic of an Italian nun who moves to New York to build orphanages in the slums portrays her as wholly holy in her mission
Released in the UK to coincide with International Women’s Day, this biopic of Italian nun Francesca Saverio Cabrini, also known as Mother Cabrini (1850-1917), is literally a hagiography. Cabrini, played by Cristiana Dell’Anna, was canonised a saint in 1946, making her the first US citizen to be sanctified. But don’t let the religious angle put you off too much. In fact, the film is reasonably critical of certain members of the clergy who stood in the way of Cabrini’s charitable goals, including Pope Leo Xiii (Giancarlo Giannini) and the Archbishop of New York, Michael Corrigan (Swiss army knife supporting actor David Morse).
Then again, Cabrini is presented as pretty much wholly (even holy) good, a fierce little creature who would let nothing impede her aim to build orphanages,...

Many romantic comedies utilize deception as a key plot point. However, for every film that incorporates an inciting fib with smarts and heart (from “While You Were Sleeping” to “You’ve Got Mail”), there are others that lack a similar savvy finesse (like “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” and “The Wedding Date”). “Players” competes in the latter league. Acting as a dumbed-down, gender-swapped kissing cousin to “Hitch,” it centers on a gal and her pals who know all the right moves to land hookups. Director Trish Sie’s middling and at times mawkish film not only makes us hate the game, but also its players.
