(This post was updated 5/15/24 at 2pm Et after CBS announced an airdate for Eilish’s appearance.)
Audience members at Tuesday’s taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert were treated to a surprise appearance from Billie Eilish.
The newly minted Oscar winner sat for an interview with Colbert and then performed two songs, “Lunch” and “The Greatest,” from her forthcoming album Hit Me Hard and Soft.
That makes the Colbert audience the first crowd to hear those songs, which have not been heard in full ahead of the album’s release this Friday.
Eilish’s appearance was kept secret until midway through the taping. “It was a complete surprise,” said one reddit user who attended the show. “We were initially told by Stephen that it was going to be Jennifer Hudson and an actress who’s playing Amy Winehouse in a biopic.

I'll just go on the record like, I've never gotten to do enough action with Aaron, which is crazy."We've done 'Bullet Train' and now, we've done 'The Fall Guy'. What I really want to do is an action movie with him, because he's such an incredible athlete. Stars: Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, David Corenswet, Austin Crute, Retta | Written and Directed by Ned Benson
Harriet (Lucy Boynton) is struggling to deal with the loss of her boyfriend Max (David Corenswet), attending grief therapy two years after his passing. She figures out that certain songs will take her back in time, charting music shared in their relationship to revisit specific memories. Trying to remember the song that could unlock saving Max’s life, Harriet gets mixed up with David (Justin H. Min) in the present.
It goes without saying that a good soundtrack makes a movie — though that doesn’t necessarily mean one needs to dazzle in order to make a film worthwhile. However, if you are leading with sound first, it’s an unwritten given that your songs need to be in order and benefit the wider storyline. It might be The Greatest Hits in name, but...

Nearly a decade after his ambitious first feature (which then became three features) and filmmaker Ned Benson is finally back on the big (and small) screen. His second film, “The Greatest Hits,” arrives ten years after his directorial debut, the 2014 breakout feature “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.” And this time, Benson is letting his protagonist have a happily ever after … kind of.
During a recent interview, Benson told IndieWire that, in a similar twist to his “Eleanor Rigby” process, the script for “The Greatest Hits” was one he had been tinkering with for years, starting in 2008. Unlike “Eleanor Rigby,” which was eventually split into a “Him”/”Her”/”Them” mini trilogy, “The Greatest Hits” firmly centers on sole lead Harriet (Lucy Boynton), whose heartbreak leads to a music-induced time travel back to her past relationship with her late lover (David Corenswet) prior to his death.

Plot: Harriet finds art imitating life when she discovers certain songs can transport her back in time – literally. While she relives the past through romantic memories of her former boyfriend, her time traveling collides with a burgeoning new love interest in the present. As she takes her journey through the hypnotic connection between music and memory, she wonders – even if she could change the past, should she?
Review: Music connects people in ways beyond sharing similar tastes in genre or artists. Music can evoke memories of times and places where significant events have occurred. Whether it be a happy or tragic memory, music can take us back whether we like it or not. That is the central conceit of The Greatest Hits, which literally takes the magic of music as it pushes and pulls the main character into moments from her relationship with her deceased boyfriend. Sam Taylor-Johnson is certainly good with all of this her-husband-as-next-Bond talk. After all, if Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the next 007, she may be the next director of a Bond film. And if so, she’d be the first female filmmaker within the storied James Bond franchise.
On “The Johnathan Ross Show,” when asked if Aaron will play 007, the “Back to Black” director had another idea — or at least a second idea.
“You mean that I might direct a Bond film? The first woman director,” Sam said (via Deadline). “Carry on speculating.”
She added of Aaron, “He’d be great.”
Sam has already directed her husband in two feature films: “Nowhere Boy” (2009) and “A Million Little Pieces” (2018). And she knows her cinema history: In the half-century Bond franchise, there has never been a film installment directed by a woman. Another Sam (Mendes) addressed this very issue in 2022, telling Deadline that the “director...

Not long ago, former James Bond actor George Lazenby, who has had the opportunity to star in a sole outing as the agent in the now-appreciated On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, threw his support behind the all-but-confirmed Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the role. Lazenby was reportedly saying to TMZ that Taylor-Johnson would be able to “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.” However, he also thinks the reason for the delay in any kind of announcement is because “when he auditioned for the part back in the 1960s, he went through a bunch of different tests and auditions before he won the role.” Though, he still thinks Taylor-Johnson would make a great Bond “as long as they do the character justice.” His advice for the young lad would be “to be true to himself and reinvent the role to fit him.”

Nelson Mandela, the iconic anti-apartheid leader who went from 27 years as a political prisoner to eventually becoming the first president of a free South Africa, will be the subject of the 30-hour scripted TV series “Mandela.” The project is currently the works at writer/producer Josh Wakely’s Grace: A Storytelling Company shingle.
Wakely has secured the TV series life rights to the late Mandela via House of Mandela Entertainment, the media arm of the Mandela estate. Wakely will executive produce and write “Mandela,” along with South African writer/director Kagiso Lediga (“Queen Sono”) and producer Kweku Mandela (who is also Nelson Mandela’s grandson).
The project, which Wakely compares to a multi-season saga in the vein of Netflix’s “The Crown,” will center on Mandela’s life as he was sent to prison while aiming to end apartheid, the system of institutional racism and segregation that was administered in South Africa for generations.

A familiar sub-genre of time travel-movies has characters going into the past to see a loved one who has died. Writer and director Ned Benson gives that idea a musical twist In The Greatest Hits. Harriet (Lucy Boynton) was in the same car crash that killed her boyfriend, Max (David Corenswet), two years before. Now whenever she hears songs they listened to together, she is carried back to the first time they experienced that music. Weighed down with grief, every night she listens to LPs, labeled “Tested” and “Untested,” searching for a way back to a moment she can alter to save Max’s life. Or, as her potential new romance, David (Justin H. Min), tells her, “So you just sit in this room, go back in time and hang out with your dead boyfriend.”
Yes, she does, and it’s an intriguing premise. Benson deftly combines the time travel,...

It’s been two years since Harriet’s (Lucy Boynton) beloved boyfriend Max died in a car crash she blames herself for. But she still sees him everywhere — literally, thanks to a natty time travel device that filmmaker Ned Benson deploys quickly and smartly in his “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” follow-up, “The Greatest Hits.” You know how a song can take you back to a moment of your life? For Harriet, who also suffered a nasty blow to the head in the same accident that took Max, that’s life. Every time she hears a song she and Max listened to together, bam, she’s launched briefly back in time to the first moment the pair heard said song for the first time.
For someone with a severely broken heart, it’s agony. And for someone who thinks she can change the past via these short visits, well, it might even be worse.

Lucy Boynton attempts to turn back time with David Corenswet in the first trailer for the romantic feature The Greatest Hits.
Searchlight Pictures releases director Ned Benson’s movie in select theaters April 5 before it begins streaming via Hulu on April 12. Justin H. Min and Austin Crute also star in the film that premieres at this year’s South by Southwest Festival.
The Greatest Hits follows Harriet (Boynton), who realizes that her favorite songs can literally transport her through time to revisit cherished memories with former boyfriend Max (Corenswet). In the meantime, she begins exploring feelings for a new potential love interest (Min) while grappling with whether she should alter the past.
“If something happened to you, and I could stop it, but it would mean we would never meet, would you want me to?” Boynton asks a confused Corenswet in the trailer.

The romance genre is rare in that even the most conventional films can land extremely well. Somewhat fittingly titled, The Greatest Hits feels like an amalgamation of all the familiar beats of the romance genre. Nevertheless, writer-director Ned Benson and his cast infuse the movie with so much charm and humanity that the result is something incredibly charming and very special.
In the film, Lucy Boynton plays a woman with a mysterious affliction: every time she hears a certain song, she is literally transported back in time to the last time she heard it with her late boyfriend. It’s a high-concept blend of sci-fi and romance, and while it goes through a lot of conventional motions, it’s consistently lovable.

The first season of HBO’s True Detective series was a great addition to the prestige reputation of the brand’s ability to produce some of the best TV shows of all time. The show starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey was another acting showcase for the latter after he won the Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.
Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson in True Detective season 1
He was nominated for an Emmy for his incredible performance in the show. The second and third seasons however did not live up to the brilliance of the first season. While many fans considered the recent fourth season a return to form for the show, they still cannot accept the fact that it has a higher rating than the first season.

Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley manage to inspire celebrities to this day. For several different reasons, some fans see Lana Del Rey as Priscilla’s modern equivalent. Here’s why that’s the case — and why Del Rey didn’t write a tune for the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.
Lana Del Rey wasn’t able to pen a song for ‘Priscilla’
Del Rey’s haircuts and outfits from her early career are very reminiscent of Priscilla’s style from the 1960s. On top of that, Del Rey has referenced the “Blue Suede Shoes” singer throughout her career. For example, her songs “Million Dollar Man,” “American,” and “Body Electric” all allude to Elvis or his songs, while Elvis is a character in Del Rey’s Tropico alongside Adam, Eve, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary. Del Rey’s “The Greatest” also has some instrumental similarities with “Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Since their last studio album in the mid ‘00s, Destiny Fulfilled, all of the members have gone on to embark on solo ventures expanding beyond music into acting, writing, presenting, and appearing as judges on popular reality TV shows.

People say truth is stranger than fiction, but the story in "Cocaine Bear" the movie is definitely more interesting than the true story behind it. In real life, the bear dubbed Pablo Eskobear ate a bunch of coke that was dumped from a drug smuggling plane and died from an overdose. In the vision of bloody mayhem created by director Elizabeth Banks and writer Jimmy Warden, though, the bear in question went on a drug-fueled murder spree, mauling anyone who got in her way. Even Margo Martindale wasn't safe!
"Cocaine Bear" landed in the zeitgeist earlier this year, taking Twitter by storm before its release, thanks to its wild title and even wilder premise. The movie ultimately grossed over $87 million at the box office (per Box Office Mojo). An attention-catching genre mashup with a relatively lean budget and a good theatrical haul should be like studio exec catnip, so where's the "Cocaine Bear" sequel news?...

Drew Barrymore has not had a great week -- and for good reason. When she announced that her daytime talk show "The Drew Barrymore Show" would be returning amidst the ongoing Writer's Guild of America strike, people were understandably very upset about this. If you were going to stand in solidarity with your writers, then the notion of bringing back the show should be an immediate non-starter. Even the show's co-head writer, Cristina Kinon, publicly spoke out about the terrible decision. The return stood in stark contrast to her decision to drop out of hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards due to strike solidarity.
Well, after a week of doubling down and tearful apologies, it turns out "The Drew Barrymore Show" will not be returning on September 18, 2023 after all. They did film episodes of the show — which infamously included kicking strike supporters out of the audience — but they will...

Theatre's biggest night is about to go dark: news has just broken via The Hollywood Reporter that the 76th Annual Tony Awards, which were set to take place on June 11, 2023, will no longer air via streaming or broadcasting. The news comes in the wake of the ongoing Writers' Guild of America strike, which affects film and television writers — like the kind who would write a telecast for an award show.
Apparently, the decision not to air the show is less a voluntary show of solidarity and more an adherence to WGA guidelines, as the Tony Awards Management Committee apparently applied to the WGA for a waiver allowing the show to continue, and was denied. According to THR, members of the Committee cited the importance of a live show to help boost ticket sales on Broadway, where ticket sales have reportedly failed to bounce back in the wake of the pandemic.

Joanna Lumley is worried about the younger generation’s work ethic and feels they need to understand “it’s a tough old world”.
In a new interview, the 76-year-old British actor said that before she landed her breakout role as Purdey in the 1976 two-season drama The New Avengers, she “was humble as can be, just desperately trying to get work”.
“I think this is a new thing. People thinking: ‘I couldn’t possibly! Why should I make the tea and coffee? Why should I wait after hours and do the unpaid work?’” Lumley told the i newspaper.

The 1960s was the peak of many trends in classic rock. For example, ’60s psychedelic rock songs are probably better than the psychedelic rock songs of any other era. Notably, John Lennon said The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” wasn’t very psychedelic at first.
The Beatles | Bettmann / Contributor 5. The Beatles’ ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’
“Strawberry Fields Forever” might be the defining psychedelic rock song of the ’60s. In a 1980 interview from the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, John discussed its origin.
“Dick Lester offered me the part in this movie [How I Won the War], which gave me time to think without going home,” he recalled. “We were in Almería, and it took me six weeks to write the song. I was writing it all the time I was making the film. And as anybody knows about film work, there’s a lot of hanging around.

Fans of Dance Moms know all too well that Abby Lee Miller demanded perfection from her dancers. The choreographer and former studio owner often screamed out corrections whenever her dancers were rehearsing. If she had to repeat a correction, she often resorted to belittling or humiliating her student. But it seems that Miller’s corrections weren’t limited to her studio or even things that she herself choreographed. In fact, Maddie Ziegler revealed that Miller even corrected her on the dance that she did in Sia’s music video, Chandelier.
Abby Lee Miller and Maddie Ziegler Why did Sia tap Maddie Ziegler to be in her music video, ‘Chandelier?’
Thanks to Dance Moms, Ziegler started gainging fans when she was only eight years old. Her musicality, passion for dance, and affinity for winning dance competitions made her a standout in the cast. At 11, The Fallout star managed to capture the attention of Australian singer Sia.
