- The academy decides to utilize Seina's special skills and use the boy as bait. The situation goes from bad to worse when space pirates attack and Seina is left with only a mop for protection.
- As Seina and the other cadets wait in line to receive their first assignments after their training mission, Kiriko meets with Airi, asking her to reassign Seina. Airi reminds Kiriko of the program's importance. Kiriko says she just wants Seina to be safe. Airi says that the purpose of the program is to let the cadets experience what it's actually like to be part of the GP. Meanwhile, Seina reports to Headmaster Mikami, who tells him he's being assigned to a decoy ship -- or, in other words, pirate bait.
Seina tells Airi, Kirio, Erma, and Amane his assignment. Amane tells him he's been assigned to the Southeast Troop Delivery Division. Seina looks disappointed, but Airi reminds him how important it is that their supply routes be secured against pirates. Airi leaves, wishing Seina good luck.
Saying to himself he'll be the best bait there ever was, Seina tries to find his assigned ship, but gets lost and finds Mitoto sweeping, asking her for directions. Mitoto tells Seina to follow her, but soon becomes unsure of where she's going. Uneasy about Mitoto's sense of direction, Seina follows her anyway.
Meanwhile, on board a GP ship, Kiriko discovers Mitoto and Seina on board. Mitoto and Seina finish sweeping, after which Mitoto leads Seina to the mess hall. The ship's captain asks Kiriko about Seina. Kiriko apologizes, saying he must have boarded by mistake. The captain tells her not to apologize, adding that Seina's ability to capture pirates may come in handy.
Suddenly, a vortex opens in front of the ship. A pirate ship emerges, which the GP ship's crew reports belongs to the ruthless pirate Tarant Shank. The GP ship's captain orders the crew to raise shields and arm torpedoes. Shank fires on the GP ship, and he and his men attack and board it. Kiriko checks on Mitoto and Seina, discovering that they are heading directly toward the invading pirates.
Kiriko leaves the bridge to find Seina. She removes her uniform to reveal another one that allows her to turn herself invisible and take out several of Shank's men. Meanwhile, Mitoto and Seina, still lost, decide to ask for directions, but the person Mitoto asks is Shank, who points a gun at them. Seina grabs Mitoto's hand and runs as Shank pursues them, firing at them. Shank corners the two, but when he fires at Seina, his shot is blocked by two of the ship's soldiers, who tell them to run. Shank kills one of the men, while the other takes Seina and Mitoto into a room containing several escape chutes.
As Shank blasts his way into the room, Mitoto and the soldier escape but Shank disables Seina's chute before he can activate it. Shank points his pistol directly at Seina's forehead, introducing himself. Shank says that his family was among those captured by the Juraian fleet during Seina's first spaceflight, tarnishing Shank's family name. He pulls the gun away from Seina's forehead and points it at the terrified boy's chest, then jams it into his mouth.
Suddenly one of Shank's men falls down behind him. He grabs Seina and points the gun to the boy's head as Kiriko materializes. Kiriko tells Shank it's over, and Seina uses the momentary distraction to stab Shank in the arm with his pocketknife, causing Shank to drop his gun. Kiriko tells Seina to get back as Shank materializes an apparition that sends Seina flying to the side. Running to Kiriko, Seina watches as part of the room catches on fire and a burning piece of equipment separates him and Kiriko from Shank. Shank tells Seina he will kill him -- Kiriko can't protect him forever.
Back at GP headquarters, Amane visits Seina, who is recovering in his room. She tells him he's a survivor. Seina breaks down sobbing when he recounts how scared he was. Amane comforts him with a hug, telling him to let it go.
In the loading bay, Alan, Barry, and Cohen view the Kamidake, a ship commissioned solely as a decoy to lure pirates, and the one that they had volunteered for. They wonder who the GP got to captain the ship. When they learn that Seina will be commanding the ship, they -- and Seina -- point at each other, laughing.
As Seina reports to the Kamidake's bridge, he discovers that both Amane and Kiriko will be assisting him. He extends a hand to Kiriko, apologizing. Kiriko smiles and takes his hand. Amane taps him on the shoulder, and the two women hold his hands as they glare jealously at each other. The Kamidake leaves GP headquarters for space.
