The building that is used as a long-shot backdrop in the middle of this episode (just before they descend into an underground laboratory) is actually the Milwaukee Art Museum and War Memorial designed by Eero Saarinen. The picture is taken looking north from the pedestrian bridge that connects Wisconsin Ave. to the new Calatrava Wing of the Art Museum (the white extension that can just be seen on the right of the shot).
The name Sheriff Andy is a reference to Sheriff Andy Taylor, the like-able and folksy town sheriff of Mayberry, from the Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968).
The title of this episode comes from "Welcome Back, Kotter" (1975).
Sheriff Andy is referred to as "the Terminator" which is a reference to the 1984 film about an assasin cyborg sent back from the future to alter the course of history.
Sheriff Andy is referred to as "RoboCop" which is a reference to the 1987 movie starring Peter Weller about a police officer who is mortally wounded and then brought back as a cyborg cop.
