Capturing the Stone: A Conversation with the Filmmakers (2002)

*** (out of 4)

Director Chris Columbus, producer David Heyman, writer Steve Kloves and production designer Stuart Craig are all interviewed for this sixteen minute featurette that takes a look at HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE. There's certainly nothing Earth-shattering here but I'm sure if you're a fan of the books or the movie then you'll enjoy hearing these behind-the-scenes stories. For the most part this is exactly what you'd expect of a promotional piece as everyone pretty much congratulates each other on a job well done while at the same time talking about how difficult the film was to make. Columbus starts off talking about the challenge of capturing the book and getting as much on the screen as possible. There's also talk of some people being unhappy that they were too true to the original source (who said that?). Again, there's nothing great here but it's a nice promotional piece.
