- For horror loving parents searching for good Halloween fun that won't give nightmares, "HOW MY DAD KILLED DRACULA" is as good as it gets. It's a simple premise. On Halloween night, Uncle Ronny (Daniel Roebuck-you may know him as 'Artz' - the annoying junior high science teacher on 'LOST' that blew himself up mishandling dynamite) is watching over his two sons and a pair of nephews as they count up their post trick or treating haul. When the subject of an old family legend comes up, Uncle Ronny is all cagey and evasive. When the boys continue to doubt the truthfulness of Uncle Ronny's fateful encounter many a Halloween ago, the only solution is to grab some shovels and dig up the vamp from his coffin in the backyard. The short is wonderfully comic and breezy. Director Sky Soleil draws fantastic performances from the kid actors, who strike a perfect mix of tween bravado and trepidation. There's a wonderful "MONSTER SQUAD" vibe to the whole thing, especially in the classic costume design of Dracula. Daniel Roebuck as Ronny has fantastic comic timing as the funny uncle that's pulling a fast one on the kids, and his character seems to know exactly the buttons to push to egg his nephews along. While the backyard grave-digging scene might make for a tense moment or two for the young ones, the emphasis of the film is on the 'trick' and not real blood curdling horror, which makes "HOW MY DAD KILLED DRACULA" a delightful family 'treat.'
