Most people know Oscar Wilde as the preeminent source of British wit, a high-society raconteur whose plays and novels epitomize what it means to be the life of the party. That characterization recedes to the shadows in “The Happy Prince,” in which Rupert Everett directs and stars as the flamboyant literary giant at the end of his life. Anyone expecting Wildean banter will be sorely disappointed — think more of an autobiographical spin on “The Portrait of Dorian Gray” than “The Importance of Being Earnest” — but it’s Everett’s formidable investment in the role that rescues the movie from being a total letdown. Nevertheless, “The Happy Prince” largely amounts to a bland rumination on Wilde’s lesser-known decline.

The Dark Place, the eagerly anticipated mystery-thriller from the team behind festival hit Judas Kiss, debuted last weekend to positive reviews.
First seen Friday, June 13th for a special digital premiere audience, the The Dark Place played again Saturday the 14th at the Baltimore Qfest and Sunday the 15th at the Queer Film Festival, Nuremberg. Audiences in multiple cities were excited and entertained by the film.
“It keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire film,” said Andrew Augstyniak, a student at Appalachian State University. “The plot keeps you engaged and you’re trying to figure out the storyline at the same time [the hero] is.”
“I really appreciate the fact that this is a film with gay characters without being gay themed,” commented Roisin Moriarty, of Cork, Ireland. “Their sexuality is a total non-issue which hopefully reflects the way forward both in cinema and real life.”

Shoreline Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based production and sales company, has picked up world sales rights to wine-country mystery-thriller, The Dark Place, from Blue Seraph Productions.
Jody Wheeler (Heat Wave, In the Closet) directed the story, with J.T. Tepnapa (Judas Kiss), from Wheeler’s own screenplay, with Carlos Pedraza producing.
The film focuses on Keegan Dark, a troubled young man cursed with the uncanny ability to remember his life in videographic detail. He returns to his family’s wine estate, boyfriend in tow, to make amends with his estranged mother, only to discover a conspiracy that frames him for murder and threatens his family’s lives and livelihood.
Pictured: After a near-fatal mishap, Keegan Dark (Blaise Embry) is examined by a doctor (Andy Copeland) who may not have Keegan’s best interests at heart.

The final push is on for the creators of Judas Kiss, as their Kickstarter event to purchase the Red camera to be used on The Dark Place and Something Like Summer (and to help other filmmakers) ends on Sunday, March 10.
Judas Kiss was the multi-award winning festival hit of 2011, scoring a few writing awards along with showing the world that former gay porn star Sean Paul Lockhart (Aka Brent Corrigan) was more than the sum of his…parts, so to speak. Now Judas Kiss actors Lockhart and Timo Descamps are reuniting for The Dark Place, along with new cast members Blaise Embry (Weeds), Eduardo Rioseco (Parenthood), Travis Richey (Untitled Web Series) and Allison Lane (Going Down in La La Land).
What they need is the help of many or just a few “heroes” to reach their $25,000 goal. Please go to their Kickstater site and contribute what you can. Because the...

Blue Seraph Productions announced that Travis Richey (Pretty Little Liars) will join the cast of The Dark Place, the mystery-thriller written by Jody Wheeler and to be helmed by Judas Kiss director J.T. Tepnapa.
Richey is famous for his brief turn as Inspector Spacetime -a running gag on the critically underrated NBC comedy series Community- that inspired (after NBC and Sony sort of said, “Yeah, no”) him and writing partner Eric Loya to create Untitled Web Series About A Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel Through Time. That web series was a huge success (hailed by USA Today as one of the Best TV on the Web in 2012) and the people that made it are now preparing to begin production on Season Two.
They’re also working on a “prequel” episode that will bridge the gap between season one and two, and you can visit their Kickstarter campaign to learn how you can help.

Director of Judas Kiss, Jt Tepnapa talks about his next two projects with writer Carlos Pedraza, writer Jody Wheeler and Cinematographer David Berry: The Dark Place & Something Like Summer here
Two and a half years ago, Kickstarter backers helped us make our first feature film, Judas Kiss, which went on to win many awards — and now it’s available all over the world! That critically acclaimed film about love, second chances and getting it right was a meaningful story, with relatable characters and top-notch production values.
We quickly raised enough funding to get two new feature films ready to shoot in 2013: The Dark Place and Something Like Summer, two very different stories. One is a mystery-thriller and the other an adaptation of a wonderful love story; both will be presented with all of the care and skill we brought to Judas Kiss.
This time out we want to do even better.

As I noted over a week ago, NBC had decided to not move forward with Mockingbird Lane, a rebooted series based on the classic 1960s TV sitcom The Munsters from Wonderfalls and Pushing Daises creator Bryan Fuller. The idea had been around for almost two years at NBC, and the network spent over $10 million getting it developed, but according to the media site Collider, part of the problem stemmed from the visual direction Fuller wanted it to go and what pilot director Brian Singer wanted. Also, NBC wanted the series have a fish-out-of-water aspect to it, where Fuller wanted it to exist in some self-contained universe. And because Fuller was working on his Hannibal prequel series (which NBC already gave a 13 episode order for midseason), he had no time to work on the show. NBC, looking to get some of its cost back (instead just burying it) will at least air the pilot,...

"I'm expecting that to go in the spring; we couldn't do it in the summer. Larry Kramer and Ryan have been working on this new draft, which is really good, and they're able to do a lot more than even the play was able to do as far as sexuality and the real trials and tribulations of living with people in that time with AIDS and caring for them. I think it could be really powerful."

Madonna never fails to get people talking.
Welcome to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we take the soundbites from your favorite celebrities that didn't get vetted by their PR people and put them on display for you, our gentle readers. It's awards season, so expect the claws to come out.
Madonna has largely been out of the public eye for a few years, but with her movie W.E. premiering, a new album, and a Super Bowl half time show, she seems ready to take her rightful place as the center of pop culture. And her rightful place is generally regarded as having a bit of an attitude. Another 1980s cultural icon had little doubt that there was blood in the orchestra pit after they tried to play the Queen of Pop off the stage.
At this moment ... in a faux english accent ... Madonna is in the pit cussin' out the string section...

American Horror Story's Evan Peters was discussing the Rubber Man suit, but the quote is just amazing. And maybe a little familiar sounding. "I don’t know if you’ve ever put on lube before, but it’s not like there’s a layer of Vaseline on you; it’s just almost like your skin is super smooth and slick; it feels kind of gross, but at the same time, you feel really well moisturized. You’re not like, 'Ew, get it off of me.' You’re more like, 'This is kind of gross. I want to get this off as soon as possible. But maybe I can stop and get a sandwich first.'”
Contrary to reports from, well, everywhere, Newt Gingrich did not say that gays should vote for Obama.
Does anyone know if White Castle rents tables by the month? Because if this happens, I may want to live there.

Patton Oswalt guest stars in Bored to Death again tonight at 9 pm on HBO. Also at 9, there is a new episode of Hart of Dixie with Scott Porter on the CW.
If you are in Los Angeles, Patton Oswalt will take part in a live reading of The Breakfast Club this Thursday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to raise funds for Film Independent (the group behind the Spirit Awards).
The Walking Dead, still scored by Bear McCreary, returned yesterday and broke the cable ratings record with its season premiere.
Elsewhere in Undead, remember Bryan Singer's Battlestar Galactica movie (Tos reboot, not really related to our BSG & Caprica) that was supposed to happen at one point but didn't? The movie’s story takes a twist when Zach discovers that one of the competitors, Danny Reyes (Richard Harmon, TV’s The Killing), shares his real name and his entry has the same title as the film that won Zach the festival years earlier. With his own career in shambles, Zach sees Danny making the same mistakes he did and decides to take matters into his own hands.
Directed and co-written by J.T. Tepnapa (Begging for Shorts), the film co-stars former adult film star Brent Corrigan (Milk) and Dennis Bateman (Men of Honor).
Judas Kiss is a DVD premiere in the U.
Price: DVD $24.95

One chaotic round of updates coming up.
Jane Espenson has announced the new project she has been working on with Alessandra Torresani, Brad Bell (Cheeks) and Sean Hemeon, in an interview with CliqueClack. Yes, it's Husbands, a web series about "two guys, a newly dating couple, who celebrate a new marriage equality law in Vegas and wake up married." A couple of snippets from the interview:
Km: What do you hope to become of Husbands in the long run? If it simply stays as a free series on the web, will that satisfy not only you but the actors?
Je: Honestly, I would love to see Husbands turn into a network television show. I’m loving the freedom that we’re enjoying as we put it together ourselves, but there’s something about it that feels so accessible — it’s Ab Fab, Dharma and Greg, Will and Grace … it feels...

Airlock Alpha has the first report from the Battlestar panel at Comic-Con. Richard Hatch, Kevin Grazier, Michael Nankin and Lili Bordan were there, and Michael Taylor had to skip because of surgery. Get better soon, Michael Taylor.
Here is what is happening with Blood and Chrome:
The pilot is not expected to be completed until at least October, especially since the sets were extremely minimal, Bordan said. Hatch told the crowd that Syfy plans to air "Blood & Chrome" as a movie event first, and a backdoor pilot, similar to what was done with "Caprica." It looks like the network is not spending the money to do a miniseries, like it did with "Battlestar Galactica."Also, unless there was a misunderstanding at the panel, they are/were exploring the possibility of showing it in 3D. Read the whole article for more details.
Esai Morales has a new film in the works.
