The poster for No Way Up says that it’s from the executive producers of the 47 Meters Down series. That’s not a good sign because it means it’s from the money men behind those films, not the writers, directors or any of the creative types. This time around, they’ve decided to offer their finny cash cows an all-you-can-eat buffet and, taking a cue from Airport 77, they’ve crashed an airliner into the Pacific. That leaves the survivors trapped on the ocean floor in a rapidly shrinking air pocket and surrounded by sharks.
As No Way Up starts things are already looking bad for Jed and Kyle. Kyle’s date for their trip to Cabo backed out at the last minute.

Deep Fear, not to be confused with last year’s film about monsters under the streets of Paris (which is probably why they added the “Sharks vs Narcs” subtitle to the film for its digital release), is a call back to the shark films of the past. Not to Jaws or its imitators but to something earlier, like Shark!, Shark’s Treasure, and The Deep where the sharks were a secondary plot element, an added threat for the protagonists to face in addition to other humans.
In the case of Deep Fear that would be Naomi whom we first see showing her co-worker Barney how easily a reef shark can be steered away from people. When she surfaces her partner Jackson that he’s booked another tour.

Tubi, Fox Corp.’s ad-supported video-streaming service, has turned to OpenAI’s ChatGPT artificial-intelligence agent to suggest new TV shows and movies to watch — although the feature is really just a form of natural-language search.
Tubi’s Rabbit AI is powered by ChatGPT-4. The AI feature, which shows up on the bottom of Tubi’s mobile app, lets users “ask questions the same way you’d ask a friend.” For example, if you type, “Any movies that are funny about sharks?” into Rabbit AI, it will return a list of titles including “Shark Bait,” “Sharknado,” “Sharkula” and “Bigfoot vs Megalodon.” (See demo video below.) Users can then save the results onto their My List watchlist. In addition, search history is saved for future reference.

One thing you might not know about Tubi is that they release A Lot of Tubi Original movies, many of them horror movies. They don’t seem to get nearly as much recognition as the vast archives of catalogue titles that you can find streaming – always for free! – on Tubi at any given time, but you might like to know that a brand new one just debuted over there today.
It’s titled Cabin Girl, and it’s now streaming only on Tubi.

Genero Urbano is having a moment now. Whether it's Bad Bunny's seemingly limitless success, Rosalía's recent Latin Grammys wins, or the slew of new ambassadors like La Gabi, Musas, and others championing burgeoning music scenes in places like Dr and Colombia, reggaeton and Latin trap are reaching more ears than ever before. With his latest release, "Jetski Remix," Puerto Rican artist and Miami native Roa looks to evolve the genre's sound while bringing it back to one of the places it was born.
Released this past Friday, Dec. 2, "Jetski Remix" sees Roa employing his signature brand of smooth lyrics and breathy vocals alongside up-and-coming Puerto Rican spitters Omar Courtz and Dei V, as well as, trap superstar Bryant Myers. The single caps off a busy year for Roa, with the young artist having already released the tracks "Bellakeame," "Jetski" (original), and "Pa' Cuando." It's a work rate that...

Hounded, also released as Hunted outside the UK, is the latest cinematic variation on The Most Dangerous Game. It takes elements from films like Don’t Breathe, Nefarious, and Turkey Shoot then adds the very upper-class British tradition of fox hunting. The result is a not-so-subtle survival horror metaphor for class warfare.
Leon and his brother Chaz along with their partners Vix and Tod have a good racket going on. Gregory, the local antique dealer hires them to rob his own customers. It’s good money for a quick in and out, grabbing the one item of value he wants.
Having made enough to send Chaz to college, Leon is ready to retire. The others however want one more job to set themselves up.

Malta’s planning authority has approved plans for the construction of the Mediterranean island country’s first interior sound stage to complement its existing exterior tank shooting facilities.
The new studio space will be built on 4,000 square metres at the Malta Film Studios at Kalkara, adjacent to its exterior deep-water tank.
A highlight of the facility will be an environment-controlled, indoor 2,000 square-metre water tank overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, giving the same infinite horizon effect as the exterior deep-water tank.
The planning approval marks a milestone for Malta’s film and TV sectors and is expected to boost its attractivity as an international shooting location.
“For long years, almost 60 years, we’ve been hearing that sound stages were going to be built in Malta. Today, we are writing our history” said Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech.

From the directors of The Asylum’s Dune knockoff and the writers/director of The Asylum’s Aladdin ripoff comes The Asylum’s Tubi Original Shark Side of the Moon. Just when you thought it was safe to colonize Earth’s crater-covered moon again, Glenn Campbell and Tammy Klein introduce Russian human-shark hybrids as cosmic predators. Or, more appropriately, lower-than-low-budget digital renderings of what The Asylum standards define as extraterrestrial Street Shark lookin’ freakshows. You’re going to read the review you’d expect for Shark Side of the Moon, a zero-star technical affair that’s barely fit for Syfy’s Sunday headliner slot — but with such an out-of-bounds concept, it’s hard to ignore and not marvel at the Frankensteining of genres on display.
The gist is simple. Russian scientists create humanoid-shark supersoldiers that can survive any situation, which escape their facility and are flown to the moon by...

Meagan Navarro wrote in her Men review for Bloody Disgusting, “Alex Garland’s adherence to the abstract will be divisive, but those that don’t mind enigmatic descents into surrealistic, gruesome horror will find this a trip worth taking.” She also notes that the latest A24 horror film “bides its time with a measured unsettling until an insane, unforgettable third act.

This time around we’re introduced to diving enthusiast Nic. After she finds her sister Cath dead, drowned in the bathtub by her abusive boyfriend Greg however that changes.
Nine months later she can’t even see water let alone resume diving, without imagining her sister’s death. Hoping it’ll be therapeutic she joins her old diving crew Jodie and Lisa, and her other sister Annie (Saskia Archer; Bali 2002) at the beach. Their kayaking trip turns out to be anything but...

Mimicking the infamous Jaws poster, complete with Megalodon-sized shark about to chomp on an unsuspecting female swimmer, poster artwork for director James Nunn’s Jetski – renamed Shark Bait – offers up exactly as it says in its new title, complete with Noughties-style effects. Fans of shark thrillers will be pleasantly entertained by it, but do not expect anything more innovative to reinvigorate the genre, first born out of Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1976 film.
A bunch of carefree teens – Nat (Holly Earl), Tom (Jack Trueman), Milly (Catherine Hannay), Tyler (Malachi Pullar-Latchman) and Greg (Thomas Flynn) – are on their spring break weekend at a unidentified Spanish-speaking location. After a night of drinking and partying they continue their fun by jumping on two parked jetskis in the early hours, long before opening time and with none of the seaside residents up and around to witness their hedonistic act.

Shark movies. What to say about the genre? Well, one thing you can say is that genre films featuring sharks terrorising humans are certainly prolific in their production, it feels like every month we get another shark movie of some kind. However, at this rate, there’s not many stories left to tell about shark versus man so filmmakers need the extra special something to make their movie stand out… So what does Shark Bait offer?
Well for a start it comes from director James Nunn, the British filmmaker behind a slew of great low-budget action movies over the years. He originally exploded on the scene with 2012’s Tower Block, before helming the likes of Green Street 3, Eliminators and One Shot, all starring Scott Adkins; as well as lensing The Marine...

Shark Bait
Five young people, two illicitly borrowed jetskis, one hungry predator. James Nunn’s ocean-set thriller Shark Bait is in US cinemas now, making the water feel distinctly unsafe, and on the day of its release I had the opportunity to chat to the director about the challenges he faced on a truly gruelling shoot. It’s a film which opens with a handsomely designed tracking shot across a dark and shadowy reef, the camera then pulling up to a beach where there is fire and music and young people dancing. It’s a nice nod to the opening of Jaws, I put it to him.
“You got me!” he laughs. “Yes, I suppose it was actually. I wanted to do something unique for the opening, and something that felt like it set the tone for the movie, but also felt bigger than the sum of the parts, because we were operating.

James Nunn‘s Shark Bait earns its praise only by comparison in today’s grim state of contemporary fin flicks. Anyone could record more thrilling aquatic horrors than 2021’s Great White or 2022’s The Requin with a handheld camera, a kiddie pool, and a Street Sharks puppet. Not since 2020’s Deep Blue Sea 3 has shark cinema […]

"What's it doing?" "Circling us." Vertical Entertainment has revealed the official trailer for Shark Bait, formerly known as just Jetski, a horror thriller shark movie set in Mexico. Yet another of these "haven't we seen this before?" stuck-on-the-water shark movies (also see: The Requin). This has been set for release in May in just a few weeks, which is why they're pushing everything right now to build up some hype. A group of friends enjoying a weekend steal a couple of jetskis racing them out to sea, ending up in a horrific head-on collision. They struggle to find a way back after the accident with a badly injured friend, then end up drifting into dangerous territory where predators lurk below the surface. This "British sharksploitation" film stars Holly Earl, Jack Trueman, Catherine Hannay, Malachi Pullar-Latchman, & Thomas Flynn. This really looks like every other cheap shark movie recently, but as usual...

Based on a screenplay by Nick Saltrese, the film will follow a group of old college friends who reunite on a Caribbean scuba diving trip exploring the wreckage of a WWII battleship and find themselves trapped inside the underwater labyrinth of rusted metal surrounded by great white sharks.
The film will be directed by Liam O’Donnell, who began his career working with Hydraulx VFX on projects including Fox’s “Alien vs. Predator: Requiem” (2007), Marvel’s “Iron Man 2” (2009) and Relativity/Universal’s “Skyline” (2010), which he produced and co-wrote. When the cameras again began to roll this summer on Universal’s “Jurassic World: Dominion,” one of the first major Hollywood studio films to resume production since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the restart was a boon for the island nation of Malta, where a second unit crew for the $200 million blockbuster filmed in August.
Despite a spring shutdown for the local production sector, Simon Sansone, head of the Malta Producers’ Assn., estimates that roughly nine international film and television shoots will have lensed in the small Mediterranean nation by year’s end. “Having that number of productions is a very good sign,” he says. “We’re almost at full capacity.”
Last year Malta raised its cash rebate from 27% to 40%, making it among the most competitive in Europe. The country boasts one of the world’s largest water tanks and offers a range of historical settings that have been...

After one of the jetskis sinks, the group finds itself stranded two miles from land on one remaining, broken-down jetski, and struggling with a badly injured friend. With no clear way home and predators circling in the choppy waters below, the true horror begins.
