- Tony and McGee unsuccessfully try to follow Lee's pickup man; a satellite leads the gang to a house with a secret room and a dead body; a second stakeout produces a different result, which takes the team to a solution, a catch, and more.
- Lee's daughter, Amanda, almost escapes. In an attempt to follow Lee's pickup man at the drop, Tony and McGee do a stakeout at a coffee shop, but it does not go well. To search for Lee's daughter, Tony and Ziva, with the guidance of McGee and others, go hiking in a woodland, and they find a decrepit old house with a secret room (where Amanda's kidnapper has kept her) plus the body of a dead man. Tony, Abby, and Gibbs show dislike and intolerance toward Lee. Amanda turns out to be not Lee's daughter but rather an adopted sister. The next day Gibbs himself does the stakeout on the inside of the shop, then the routine takes an unexpected turn, and the pickup man leads the gang down a different path. Vance accuses Gibbs and McGee of having committed treason. However, the team figure out everything, they get the bad guy, and the story reaches a sad end, during which Gibbs takes a round.—DocRushing
- A man runs through the forest in the dark of the night. He stops and listens. Wait, he's chasing a young girl. It's Amanda, Special Agent Michelle Lee's daugher. Quickly he catches up with her. He scoops her up and throws her over his shoulder, and disappears into the night.
Dummm. da da dumm....... Da da da dummm....
Dinonzo and McGee are on a stakeout in a coffee shop. Tony is gulping down his drink, but McGee teaches him the art of the "Gibbs sip"-- take what appears to a sip, without actually taking a drink. Gibbs interrupts from the radio. He's on lookout from the car. Special Agent Lee enters the coffee shop. DiNozzo thinks this whole thing is a set up, that she's lying about even having a daughter, but McGee gives her the benefit of the doubt. If the pick-up man shows up, it'll prove she's not lying.
Lee goes to the counter and orders a drink and a paper. After a quick glance at the undercover agents, she takes a seat at a table and then puts on a fresh coat of lipstick. She carefully folds the newspaper then slips a jump drive in the fold. Taking a sip of her coffee, she heads out the door, leaving the paper on the table. And now we wait. But not too long. A man wearing a scarf, sunglasses, and hat crosses the room from the back of the coffee shop. He darts past the table, picking up the paper. He's out the door with DiNozzo in pursuit.
As soon as the mystery man steps outside, Gibbs snaps his picture. DiNozzo is close behind -- but wait, why is Lee is lingering by the door? She "accidentally" spills her coffee on DiNozzo and blocks him from passing. McGee is right behind but by the time he makes it to the parking garage, all we hear are screeching tires. The perp got away.
Back at the coffee shop, Lee gives the lame excuse that DiNozzo was too close and would have been made, but Gibbs pulls her angrily away. "My show, my call. My car, now!"
Back at the the base. McGee prepares to give the intel to the group, including the Director who is still wary of Lee. Earlier that morning, Abby found some thermal footage from the NSA satellite of unusual activity in Hickory Grove, Virginia. On the screen, we see the thermal image of the man with the girl, taken at 4:14 am. The man never looked up so it will be impossible to identify him, but with luck, they can identify the girl. They switch to satellite and zoom in. Lee gasps, "It's Amanda!" Freeze frame.
Ziva thinks this proves that Lee is telling the truth, but DiNozzo still doesn't buy it. He thinks this may all be a part of her master plan. Gibbs sends Ziva and DiNozzo to scout the area where the footage was taken. Lee wants to go, but Gibbs shuts her down and tells her she's not going anywhere. She picks up her bag to leave but he takes it and throws it in the corner. "Sit down, NOW!" McGee has to babysit.
McGee and Gibbs compare the men in the pictures from the satellite and the ones taken earlier at the stakeout. It's apparent they are two different men. Gibbs tell McGee to take Lee to the conference room, and to not let her move.
Gibbs and Director Vance talk about the situation. It's clear this mystery perp has taken the bait, and thinks he's gotten a copy of Domino, the plan with details of how the military will respond to a communications link on an attack on Israel. But now, he's sure to test it to see if its' real. Gibbs thinks that Lee is the only way to catch this guy, but Vance still doesn't trust her.
Back in the conference room, Lee tries to get McGee's sympathies, bringing up the time he broke the rules to save his sister. Then she tries on Abby, but she completely ignores her. They put Lee in the corner, as Abby shows McGee how she determined where to look for the girl, and came up with the satellite image. By taking the hair sample sent to Lee as proof of life, Abby was able to pinpoint the location of her drinking supply of water, Prince County, Virginia. Gibbs enters and Abby shares the results. After McGee and Lee leave the room, she tells Gibbs that although they know where the girl is, they still won't know if the girl is actually Lee's daughter until they get a full DNA report.
Meanwhile, out in the field, DiNozzo and Ziva examine the area. They find the Amanda's shoe, lost in the struggle. Abby points them in the direction of a small house, about 200 yards from where the image was taken. They find the house and bust in. It's empty! But wait a second, something's not right. The room is relatively small, but the house is much bigger. Sure enough, there's a fake wall. Ziva find the door and they enter a child's room. There's a princess bed, full of stuffed animals, books, and ruffles, though everything is dingy and dark with age. The girl has been moved. Tony turns the corner. "Looks like the help has been fired." The man from the forest lays dead in a pool of his own blood, a bullet in his head -- shot execution style.
Gibbs tells them to document everything and get out of there, but to leave it as is. They don't want the guy to know they found his hideout. Ziva takes a few hairs from a hairbrush and then notices small red stains on the base of the bed. It's not blood, but ketchup. The girl has been counting the days she's been captive.
Gibbs goes to Ducky for his expertise. Ducky explains that the blackmailer is patient. He had the girl for eight months, stocking the house with everything from summer to winter gear. Even when Domino was compromised he didn't alter his plans, he worked slowly, deliberate. The man is a contradiction, and is compassionate when it suits him. The poker term is grinder. Only way to get at him is to make him think he has the winning hand. And the girl? Now she's not just his hostage, she's a witness. Not good.
Next day, they go back to the coffee shop for another drop. The plan is to stick to the same routine, and then they'll nab him. Gibbs is at the counter, and DiNozzo and McGee are in the car. McGee admits he's warmed to Lee, but DiNozzo says he has the wool over his eyes.
It's time to start. Lee approaches the counter and orders a coffee and paper. Check. Sits at the table. Check. Lipstick, a sip of coffee check. But wait, she's turning the cup. Something is wrong. She's sending a signal.
Back at the base, Abby tells Director Vance that the dead guy at the cabin had no identity. His fingerprints, everything is erased. He must be a spy. Also, the hair samples are back and they found there's hair from two different females. And, what's this? Something is bad. Really bad.
Back at the diner. The man with the scarf is back. But something is wrong. Lee isn't leaving. Gibbs phone rings, it's Director Vance. "It's not Lee's daughter! There is no relation. Lee's lying!"
Gibbs looks up in time to see Lee slipping a gun into the paper. He darts for the table and the man approaches. The man pleads, "Just give me the paper, or they will kill her." Lee is confused, "Who Amanda?" "No, my wife!" Huh? Freeze frame!
Back at the base, Gibbs has Lee in interrogation. "She's not your damn daughter. Who's the girl?" Now Lee claims it's her adopted sister that she raised from six months. She thought they might care more if she were her daughter. Good try. Gibbs screams, "You should have come to me an soon as it happened. Before you murdered two men!"
In the other room, Director Vance interrogates Ted Bankston (played by David Eigenberg, from Sex and the City... Steve!), a former NSA analyst who was accused of mishandling classified information. He claims the same story as Lee, but his wife was kidnapped and he received little envelopes with her hair. After he was fired, they used him as a drop man for Lee. He explains that the mystery guy only contacts him through the computer and calls himself the Weatherman, because he can predict the future. He wants access to Domino so he can predict the military's response and troop movements. He's doing it all for the money. There's a threat on a pipeline in Israel, so if the Pentagon moves the U.S. sixth fleet to the Middle East to protect it, the price of everything changes overnight. Oil, commodities, stocks. There are millions to be made by knowing one thing: what's going to happen tomorrow.
Back at the lab, Abby has test results on the hair. It's clear that Bankston's wife was kept at the same cabin. Both are missing a protein sheath, hair and fingernail roots show decomposition. The proof of life was actually proof of death. The wife is already dead.
Gibbs tries to get Director Vance to sign off on paperwork authorizing the use of the real Domino. No way! He's got to use the decoy. By using Bankston's phone, they text the mystery man and tell them Lee has Domino. She'll exchange it for the girl. They get a text back to meet at Adam's Tavern.
Everyone prepares to leave. As Ziva puts the wire on Lee, she asks why she never tries to gain her sympathies. Lee moans "I'm done trying to get everyone to understand." She's surprised when Ziva softly says, "I do." Lee asks Ziva if she'll ever see her sister again, and Ziva tells her the truth. "Probably not."
It's time to go. Gibbs hands Lee the jump drive. Everyone is shocked. The Pentagon let you have the real Domino? Cut to, Director Vance taking a call from the Pentagon. An angry Charlie Brown voice barks over the phone as Vance gives McGee the evil eye. Turns out someone hacked in the Pentagon from McGee's computer and downloaded the real Domino. "You and Gibbs have just committed treason!" Freeze Frame!
Adam's Tavern. Lee and Bankston slide in a booth while Gibbs plays pool. Other undercover agents fill the room, while DiNozzo and Ziva watches from the Security camera. They get a text from the man telling her to put Domino in the menu. She slips it inside and hands it to the waitress. Gibbs keeps his eye on the menu, waiting for the pick-up.
Abby calls. Turns out the dead guy is actually Paul Winton, who was in witness protection. They have an address, just a few blocks away. Gibbs sends Ziva and DiNozzo to investigate. When they get to the house, they find it's filled with rows and rows of servers. DiNozzo sends a picture back to McGee and he tells them it's an Internet Hub. It's set up to buy stock under the guise of several agents. Also, the text messages are being automatically generated. The guy doesn't even have to be there. In the other room, they find Amanda strapped to a bed. She's knocked out from sleeping pills and is lying on a pressure plate connected to the computer system. If they move her, she's be electrocuted and it will destroy the evidence. Suddenly, the computer sets off a fire alarm at Tavern.
Back at the Tavern, they shut the place down. Nobody's going to leave! Gibbs checks all the menus but Domino is gone. Lee looks like she's about to make a run for it. And then suddenly, everything clicks for Gibbs. It's not here, it never was. It was Bankston all along. Bankston grabs an agent's gun and takes Lee as a hostage. They run outside but there's nowhere to hide. They jump on the bus.
Not so fast. Gibbs shoots out the tire and the bus comes to a halt. Shooting, screaming! Gibbs is shot in the hand and the shattered glass cuts his eye. Blood drips in his eye, so he can barely see. Over the radio, McGee shouts, "Tony's got Amanda, she's safe!" Lee hears this and fights to get the gun away from Bankston. Gibbs tries to aim, but it's hard to focus. In slow motion, Lee yells, "Do it!" Gibbs takes the shot, shooting Lee three times. She falls and Bankston's slumps. The bullets went straight through. He falls dead. Gibbs leans over Lee and takes her badge from her belt.
Back at the base, Director Vance tells Gibbs that Bankston killed his wife a year ago and kept her hair as evidence. He thought of everything. "Well, not everything," Gibbs says, referring to Lee. Vance assures him it was for the best, because she would have been convicted of treason and a double murder. She'd never see her sister again. He asks Gibbs for Domino back but Gibbs points to the envelope he gave him earlier with the "paperwork". It never left the building.
Amanda sits with Ziva and DiNozzo coloring in her book. Gibbs goes to her and tells her what a brave little girl she is. Amanda asks, "Where's Mishi?" He pulls her aside and gives her Lee's badge. Freeze frame!
