A new chapter of love? Or the lack thereof?
This episode transitions from Darby Carter to Marcus Williams. However, Marcus' story overlaps with Darby's as it starts With Darby's wedding to Magnus from season 1. It was fun to see the characters from season 1 again if even if it was just for a little bit. Expect for Magnus. That character is the worst, and he proves it yet again. But the story isn't about Darby and her friends anymore. Instead, we are introduced to Markus, a book editor. He is married but seems to be unhappy with it. Marcus finds his loyalty tested when he meets Mia Hines. The question for me has always been could this show stand on its own without Anna Kendrick as the lead. Season 1 was good, but at times it was kind of all over the place, and to be honest, I wasn't even planning on watching season 2 until I found out Anna would still make the occasional appearance. Now it is like a completely different show. Even the narrator is different. But more to the point, so fair, I don't think Marcus is an interesting enough character for me to really get emotionally involved in his story. Nothing against the William Jackson Harper. I just didn't relate to Marcus' character or the choice he made like I did with Darby.
