Not a single minute wasted

Warning: Spoilers
Talk about an episode. This was honestly a phenomenal episode. A little calm in the execution, but every second was engaging. Our characters were even more entertaining than ever.

At the Commonwealth, we get Eugene hitting Pamela Milton's son (let's face it, he totally deserved it), but without totally knowing the implications of the incident. Yumiko gets to interact with who could very well may be the real Stephanie. Hornsby is getting a bigger role, and Princess and Ezekiel are shining with their personalities.

Leah gets a challenge, and shows her softer side. So heartbreaking to see a happy family getting teared apart after having survived that long into the apocalypse.

As for Negan and Maggie, what do I need to say here ? We get some fun parts with Negan teaching the whisperer technique to Maggie and her group. Also, we really get to feel the panic of using the masks for the first time. The writers and actors did a real good job at portraying all the right emotions. Also, a little honesty... Looking back, what would Negan have done ? It was fascinating to see them interacting in a calmer setting, and truly have the time to sit down and face each other.

I'm going with a 9.7/10 here. It was as good as a mid-season finale, each piece of the puzzle moving towards a specific direction. Oh ! And Eugene is about to talk about Alexandria's location and all... Woah.

Big set up for the final episode for 11A.

Entertaining as usual and still a lot of questions still to be answered about the commonwealth, next episode should be the best one.

This episode is about build up and it does that fantastically whilst bringing quality drama and acting - Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are brilliant in Promises Brok
Holt34427 September 2021
Episode 11.07 titled "Promises Broken" is a direct follow-up to episode 11.05 and 11.06, the Reapers storyline and the Commonwealth storyline is continued in a major way. Episode seven follows Maggie and Elijah as they learn a new survival tactic from Negan; Eugene's group clears walkers to pay their fines; Yumiko interviews for an upper-class job; Daryl learns more about Leah and the Reapers; Gabriel encounters a man of God. I think the editing and pacing was perfect in this episode, so was the writing, Julia Ruchman whom penned the script of 11.07 did a great job. Overseen by Angela Kang, I'm really finding the overall writing to be excellent in this season. From the individual character arcs to the grander storylines.

Sharat Raju directed this week's episode and he has previously directed two episodes of Fear TWD, his direction and vision was overall quite great but not the best the season have given us. But a memorable one, Raju truly knows how to make it an immersive experience. The cinematography is truly breathtaking and incredible, the way it was shot with the sets, wow. Art and production design is brilliant. Though Sharat Raju wasn't the best director this season, he knows how to make an episode with a grand vision and I hope he'll direct more episodes. The close ups in dialogue is something I like and sadly isn't used that often, but should be used much more often. The musical score continues to amaze me, it's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show is doing a phenomenal job at.

There were a ton of great performances in this episode, from each storyline. Lauren Cohan's performance as Maggie Greene and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan were among the best, I have said it before and I'll say it again that the work they're doing is truly brilliant and it's the writing that makes it so good. It was nice to see more of Josh Hamilton as Lance Hornsby and Lynn Collins as Leah Shaw, two interesting characters with good performances. Two other brilliant performances in this episode are Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon and Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter.

"Promises Broken" has lots of things that fans of The Walking Dead will like, but also some throwbacks to season 10 and the previous seasons. Episode seven is also faithful to the graphic novel regarding the introduction of Sebastian Milton which is the son to Pamela Milton, the governor of the Commonwealth. Sebastian Milton is played by Teo Rapp-Olsson and he's doing a great job at capturing the personality of Sebastian Milton. We are one step closer at meeting Pamela Milton. I'm really enjoying the Commonwealth storyline in how they're dragging it out as it felt a bit rushed in the graphic novel, the Reaper storyline was all about build up and making up a plan and I'm behind it 100% as it's smart but also how it fits into Negan as a character and how far he have come. "Promises Broken" aren't as action heavy as the previous episodes as it's a build up for the mid season finale and I think it was a great episode.

Keeps getting Better
revieweranarchy7526 September 2021
I would've loved to see Pamela Miltons son try some of that spoiled brat bs on Rick or Daryl... they probably would've done worse than Eugene did to him lol.

This episode is going to lead into an amazing mid season finale and I wouldn't be surprised if we lose a main character, or even if the commonwealth shows up to Alexandria.

TWD is Back!!!!!!

This season is so good.
pmartinsd26 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this episode. It's a calm episode with a lot of dialogues. But NECESSARY dialogues. We have the construction of negan and Maggie possible friendship (I think Maggie is starting to understand negan somehow), we have the commonwealth part, which is really interesting right now (I really doubt that Stephanie is real but I guess I need to wait to know) and the reapers part is interesting right now too, at first I didn't like that arc, but I think it's getting good now.

Also, this episode is a must watch for the comic fans! We finally met Seb Milton and his girlfriend Kayla. The only thing I didn't like was the casting for Seb Milton. I don't know, I didn't get that anger I got while I was reading the comics...

Overall, this is a fine development episode and this first part finale looks so better than I ever expected. This season is being a good surprise.

Final rating: 9.0.

This looks like a very good build up to the final episode of this year. The 8th episode will decide the quality of this one right here.

Episode 1107
bobcobb30124 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Only a handful of scenes were an absoltue chore to get through, but overall this was another really underwhelming episode of The Walking Dead. I just cannot get into this new community which makes it too improbable to appreciate this show anymore. How do they have electricity and all of this power easily running? And there are thousands of people who were living in this small area, yet the key people all know each other.

Eugene continues to be an absolute bore no matter the storyline he is in, so any episode with an appearance by him is one I am not going to think too kindly of at this time. Sorry.

Fun episode, only feeling that story and answers this episode gave us, had more potential, to be even better.
Glodar32227 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, it was good episode, but at same time it reveals some stuff that you just kinda hoped or expected that will be deeper (Pope marked you), story had potential to be deeper, when actually all intrigue from previous episodes honestely just has simple answer (Maggie being marked is just because they survived so Reapers are hunting them as they feel that they can't leave people alive, at least, that is how it looks after this episode), and while that answer is also probably most realistic, I was hoping for more depth and some good twist this in story they have going on (was hoping that Maggie is hiding something, that maybe she did something to provoke them, would be good twist in my opinion).

That aside it is great episode, very happy that Negan talked about how Rick group killed his people and that he had to act on that, because everyone forgets what our group did, they killed Negans people in sleep, they were acting as mercenary for Hilltop.

All in all good episode.

An episode that takes place on three fronts, with deep dialogues and important decisions. Even the "less hottest" episodes this season are in excellent quality.

Nothing Special, Clearly Building Up For EP8
declanoneil27 September 2021
Glad that multiple arcs were featured in the episode however it still was very slow. Some interesting dialogue and conversations occurred but I spent the entire episode waiting for something amazing to happen. This episode serves as a build up of tension to EP8 which it does rather effectively. It's set up the arc for the commonwealth quite nicely with issues of class which was teased in episode 2. Still very excited to watch each week but not a massive fan of the reapers story arc which serves as nothing but plot filler. However the reapers arc has provided an interesting dynamic between Negan and Maggie which is entertaining to watch.

The show has become as slow and decaying as a walker
willybobs4 October 2021
Wow, the show has become as slow and decaying as its subject matter.

Eugene, please stick a blade through the skull of this show and put us all out of the misery of what the show has become.

This is supposed to be the grand finale season, but rather go out in a blaze of glory, its being allowed to rot till it can no longer muster the strength to walk.

Anyone giving this episode or season 10/10 must be watching television for the first time.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. Not one bad episode in this first half & it looks like next weeks episode will be the best of them all. Fantastic dialogue, awesome cinematography & VFX. I loved the Commonwealth stuff, Yumiko is a boss! It was cool seeing real Stephanie again, asking about Eugene. That was sweet. Loved meeting Sebastian, he's just as annoying as the comics. This weeks episode wasn't as good as last weeks, but I still really enjoyed it. Next weeks episode looks phenomenal.

More character development: This time the Negan-Maggie and Daryl-Leah story arcs
Shadowboy_25cm24 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Three story arcs that go more into character development.

Negan is back into his (sports-)teacher job and assigns Maggie the cool Whisperer-technique to walk with Walkers.

Eugene gets more trouble with the laws of The Commonwealth, while Yumiko tries to use the rules and laws of The Commonwealth for her purpose and becomes Eugene's lawyer.

Daryl and Leah go on a solo mission.

Solid episode that shows living in the Commonwealth and The Reapers.

The episode predominantly focuses on the fragile alliances and the lengths to which characters will go to protect their people and ideals
fernandoschiavi4 April 2024
At the Commonwealth, Eugene, Ezekiel, Princess, and Stephanie are sentenced to community service clearing walkers from buildings. Eugene and Stephanie save Sebastian Milton, the son of Governor Pamela Milton, from walkers, but when Sebastian is ungrateful Eugene punches him, getting himself imprisoned. Lance offers Eugene freedom and help for his community if he gives up Alexandria's location. Meanwhile, the Reapers are growing frustrated due to being unable to find Maggie's group. Daryl and Leah find a family in the woods, and Leah refuses to kill them despite Pope's orders to do so. Negan forces Maggie to promise to stop plotting to kill him in exchange for his help against the Reapers, and she reluctantly agrees. Negan fashions a Whisperer mask for Maggie and trains her to command walkers so they can gather a horde to attack Meridian with. During preparation, Negan admits to Maggie he should have killed Rick's entire group during their initial confrontation to convince her of his honesty.

"Promises Broken" serves as a compelling follow-up to the tension-filled narratives established in earlier episodes of "The Walking Dead's" final season. This episode intricately weaves together the themes of survival, loyalty, and the moral compromises that characters must navigate in the post-apocalyptic world. It stands out for its ability to balance character development with the overarching plot, pushing forward the season's narrative while delving into the psychological underpinnings of its key players.

The episode predominantly focuses on the fragile alliances and the lengths to which characters will go to protect their people and ideals. The dynamics between Maggie and Negan take center stage, offering viewers a deep dive into their complex relationship. Their uneasy alliance, driven by a mutual goal but fraught with underlying tension and past grievances, highlights the evolving nature of character interactions in the face of survival. The nuanced performances by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan add layers of depth to their characters, portraying a tenuous balance between cooperation and the specter of betrayal.

Another significant aspect of "Promises Broken" is the exploration of the Commonwealth storyline. This arc offers a stark contrast to the survivalist narrative, presenting a semblance of pre-apocalypse civilization that is both alluring and inherently flawed. The episode deftly critiques the notion of order and governance in a post-apocalyptic society, suggesting that the facade of safety and prosperity may come at the cost of freedom and individuality. The subplot involving Eugene's mission within the Commonwealth adds a layer of intrigue and suspense, setting the stage for future conflicts.

"Promises Broken" also excels in its visual storytelling, using the desolate yet hauntingly beautiful landscape to underscore the isolation and desperation of the characters' circumstances. The cinematography and direction effectively complement the episode's tone, balancing moments of quiet introspection with bursts of intense action.

In conclusion, "Promises Broken" is a testament to "The Walking Dead's" enduring ability to blend character-driven drama with socio-political commentary. The episode not only advances the plot but also challenges its characters and viewers to ponder the cost of survival and the meaning of community in a world reclaimed by the dead. As the series inches closer to its finale, "Promises Broken" skillfully sets the stage for the culmination of its characters' journeys, promising a finale that is both emotionally resonant and thought-provoking.

Next ep is the final for 11A??
dannylee-780824 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing particularly exciting but sort of necessary developments. Setting up for finale.

We get more development into negan- Maggie relationship which is very complicated.

Seeing Maggie in her mask is really cool - arguably it really is a good tactic.

Stephanie Eugene is a little cringeworthy (a little bit stereotypical).

Commonwealth is a strange place honestly - but since it really is the last season, it can't be all that bad right? Hornsby seems like a reasonable character.

Negan seems to be the only character with presence. Maggie is overwhelmed, the actress Lauren tries too hard to act out hatred for Negan. She looks like she's gonna bust out laughing with Jeffrey, as she tries to threaten him, this is getting boring. Negan teaches her how to walk with a mask. Negans tries to explain himself as a leader to Maggie he wants to convince her that he has changed. But she is still in disbelief.. Meanwhile, Eugene, the king, and princess clean out walkers as their sentence. Yumiko seeks justice. Hornsby shows his true colors and manipulates them to work for him at clearing walkers..the bosses kid gets punched by Eugene. He still has not met Stephanie.

Daryl is with the reapers trying to fit in looking for an angle to please waco Pope and his ex psycho girlfriend .

Effectively Setting-Up the Finale to Part 1
FL25712 October 2021
"Promises Broken" effectively sets up for the first part's conclusion. The return of the Whisperer's tactic was a great involvement to the story, and Maggie and Negan's rivalry continues to be compelling. Josh Hamilton's performance as Lance was great, as well as for Sebastian who's part was played effectively well. The pacing of certain scenes felt somewhat rushed, but the pace was engaging nonetheless.

Maggie will forgive Negan or not? And what about Rick? And Stephanie and Eugene? And how about the cooperation of Maggie and Negan: how long they will still help each other before Maggie try to revenge Glenn? And what about Pope and his impact in our heroes: is it a threat?
