Builder episode
tristan_196 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pamela Milton tries to recruit Alexandria, Oceanside and Hilltop, while Eugene deals with the fallout of last episode.

The episode moves at a steady pace, while quite slow. Eugene and Rosita's relationship is awesome and very profound. We do not get much progression at the Commonwealth, but Maggie gets to shine.

Hornsby is one of the most fascinating characters of the entire series and definitely a highlight of this last season. Can't wait to see him act on his own here and build himself some allies. Civil war coming up ? I think he wants to seize the Commonwealth for himself.

I wonder if Maggie and Lance will work together for a rebellion, and that's why Daryl is at odds with her later on... Anyway, let's see.

The Calm Before the Strom
MamadNobari976 March 2022
This was a rather calm episode with more politics and negotiations than immediate dangers of zombies attacking or two groups fighting each other, and I quite enjoyed it.

First of all, I really liked all the scenes with Eugene and I think he's grown so much on me as a character since when we first saw his rather pathetic azz in season 5.

I already know some people are gonna say "oh boohoo incel Eugene got rejected again and now we gotta now watch him cry." But those scenes were surprisingly quite emotional for me, because that guy has seriously been through a lot and when he thought he actually find something good, the world kicked him down again and he realized it was all a lie. So I can feel him and I'm really liking the chemistry they're building between him and Max. It might not seem that at first, but I think we're getting there.

Then we have Pamela and Hornsby visiting Hilltop and put on a show so Maggie could accept their offer but Maggie is smarter than that.

So I kinda didn't like Maggie when she first came to Hilltop and was just an azz to Rick and the rest and then she left for like 2 seasons and now that she's back again, I don't really know how to feel about her. I'm neutral about her right now but I liked her in this episode. Obviously, it seems that what she's doing is gonna impact her community negatively, but it's obvious that she made the right choice for the long run.

And Hornsby is definitely a fascinating character that gets more and more interesting each episode, and the actor is doing a really good job. You're never quite sure what his intentions are, or if he's just a good man trying to help people or just a power-hungry politician trying to overthrow the leader. Which the second one is is the most probable and obvious one, but I hope there's more to it than just a guy like the Governor. For now, they're not revealing much about Hornsby and Pamela's intentions, so I hope the writers have some interesting things up their sleeve and they're not just delaying it just to reach the 16 and 24 episodes AMC ordered them to do.

So far it seems like the speculations about the "Six months later" scene were right and Hornsby is gonna attempt a coup against Pamela. Which is nice I guess, and not a bad story line, but I think I need more of a nuanced plot with more surprising twists since they're being shy about revealing what Hornsby really wants and what his secret group is all about.

I think I agree with the other review that said they're dedicating too much screen time to Daryl and Aaron should get some of those instead of him. I think Aaron has been a really underappreciated character in this series and should get more screen time like he did last season. This is The Walking Dead, there are so many characters with potential that are just getting dusted on the shelf. I think they should've somehow made Aaron fill the role of Rick whenever he was gone. Daryl is definitely a great character but he doesn't have to be the main focus every episode. I think since Rick was gone, they decided that Daryl should be the center of the story (which he's really not here in this episode, nor was in the last one, but Aaron should've gotten more screen time this episode) and some times they don't know what to do with him.

All in all, a very interesting episode that builds and sets in motion lots of interesting conflicts and story lines and we have to wait and see the outcome.

The Lucky Ones will satisfy fans of the graphic novel, the episode is slow paced but memorable
Holt3447 March 2022
Episode 11.12 titled "The Lucky Ones" is entirely focused on the Commonwealth storyline. The premise for episode 12 reads: Aaron and Maggie meet Governor Pamela Milton as she tours Alexandria, Oceanside and Hilltop; Ezekiel finds himself lucky during a routine checkup; Eugene processes Max's story. I think the editing and pacing was perfect in this episode, with some great transitions. Vivian Tse penned the script for 11.12, the overall writing is great. Overseen by Angela Kang, the writing for this episode is consistent of the previous episodes in Part 2. The episode uses the big budget wisely, making it brilliant both technically and the acting and so on, the camera work are brilliant and it's visually a great episode, an overall impressive production.

Tawnia McKiernan directed 11.12 "The Lucky Ones" and the direction is really fine, I loved some of the shots and there are so many great scenes in this episode. If you have read the graphic novel you'll or not, this episode is for everyone. But how Tawnia and the cinematographer shoots the nature in this episode, stunning is all, extremely beautiful shots. The cinematography is once again breathtaking and incredible, the way it was shot and so on, just brilliant. The sets were detailed and perfect, and so are the art and production design. Superb sound design and a musical score both gripping and dramatic. It's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show succeeds perfectly with.

As this was a direct follow-up to the previous episode which ended with Eugene finally learning the truth of the real Stephanie which turned out to be Max and the direction Angela Kang goes with their storyline is finally incredible, Max being the sister of Mercer was a nice twist, whilst Pamela getting the tour of Alexandria, Oceanside and Hilltop. Having almost the entire cast in the episode was a nice sight, and everyone has something important to do which Part 2 have really nailed. The best performances were Josh Hamilton as Lance Hornsby, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Greene and Laila Robins as Pamela Milton. But the thing with this episode isn't how mind blowing and epic it was, there are lots of scenes when people are only talking and conversing, which in my opinion is needed in an episode like this. There's still plenty of zombie killing and it looks fantastic. I wouldn't say this was a slow paced episode, I honestly wish it was longer than 45 minutes as it felt a bit rushed but that's my opinion, it was at a fine length.

"The Lucky Ones" has lots of things that fans of The Walking Dead will like. Angela Kang is truly giving the Commonwealth arc a lot of depth and I'm liking it a lot, Part 2 continues to be amazing and "The Lucky Ones" brings the anticipated issue from the graphic novel to the screen and I think it's better because of how well thought and personal they have made it in regards of a big universe like a tiny bit of dialogue Pamela Milton has with Daryl in how she knew Deanna Monroe. Things like that made me happy. I think the dialogue was some of the season's best, with each bit of dialogue being meaningful, it's also huge thanks to the actors who deliver the lines, simply brilliant from a writing point of view. "The Lucky Ones" are an nostalgic trip for old and new fans, with its dialogue and character interactions that will easily make you smile and feel for the characters. This episode did the material justice to me as it gave us plenty of character development, story building and our characters getting closer to where they were in the flashforward we saw.

The Lucky Ones
bobcobb30128 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There was a lot going on in this episode, although not too much of it was particularly exciting. We are back to Eugene being absolutely nothing but a nuisance and a bore on TV after a previous episode devoted so much time to his character and made him seem almost empathetic to a point.

And then the exact same fighting between Alexandria, The Hilltop, The Commonwealth that we have dealt with for what seems like 10 years now.

The show is nearing its conclusion, but I want it to go out with a much bigger bang than it is doing right now. We need these last episodes to turn things around and fast.

Slow but Decent Episode
panagiotis199321 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So Maggie was able to rebuild Hilltop? Who exactly followed her? She lost all of her people from Meridian. It doesn't really make sense to me. The Commonwealth needs allies? I don't know if I can believe that, there is definitely something else going on. Alexandria, Hilltop and Oceanside are really really tiny communities compared to the Commonwealth so I don't really see the point, like why they care so much? Ezekiel will get the surgery he needs? Im so happy about that. I don't trust Lance he is such a shady character. Eugene reconnecting with the real Stephanie feels good. Well this episode was a bit slow but it was decent overall so my rating is 7/10.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos14 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Maggie appears to be as stubborn as she is hypocritical. Obviously She feels there is not enough fairness in the Haves vs Have Nots society contained within the Commonwealth, yet she alone speaks for 2 communities.

There will always be those with more material goods than others, but as long as all have the basic necessities for life and access to schools and employment why would you want to stay in a community that has been decimated many times and where the members repeatedly faced possibly starving to death?

Why doesn't Maggie simply visit the Commonwealth and speak to some of its long time members as apparently she no longer trusts Daryl, Rosita and Aaron's judgement

If Zeke really felt so strongly about not jumping over other Commonwealth community members for his needed surgery, then why did he go through with it?

Eugene needs to get his head back in the game and get over being so woman whipped. With his brains he could prolly have his pick of choice positions at he Commonwealth.

It didn't take long for Daryl to get on Mercer's good side and its a good thing that Daryl doesn't trust anyone as he has seen before that if things seem too good to be true they most likely are.

Gov Milton obviously feels Hornsby has too much ambition and I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the leader of the underground resistance and possibly coordinating a coup d'etat.

Shooting a large group of Walkers with automatic weapons isn't nearly as fun as killing them hand to hand with edged weapons.

At least Gov Milton finds time to get a pedicure before meeting new community leaders.

Now Negan will be coming back soon won't he?

Best Line: No Pineapple Jerry, I'm Serious!

7.5.

Maggie Continues to Shine
tomiscool123456 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Good episode, but definitely building the story, which I don't mind. I feel like we are at the usual point in a season, where the episodes are very character/dialogue driven. We got our action-packed premiere, then the time jump to start the new arc in episode 10, now 11, 12 & 13 will be very story driven. Maybe even 14 too, but 15 & 16 will up the angst to a dramatic midseason finale and grand final 8 episodes.

Maggie was the best part of this episode, as always. Lauren Cohan coming back was such a blessing for this final season. I couldn't imagine it without her. Her conversations with Lance & Pamela were really interesting to watch. She see's right through the facade, and is not backing down. Eugene & Rosita have such a sweet bond as well, and I am excited to see where things go with him & Max.

The only criticism I have, is they need to stop giving Daryl scenes, that should go to other people. I love Daryl, he is a fantastic character, but there were a lot of scenes in this episode that should've been given too Aaron. Daryl already has his arc this half - the kids, becoming a soldier, and growing this bond with Mercer. Aaron's arc is Alexandria, and he should've been the pivotal focus there, but it felt like they gave most of the Alexandria scenes to Daryl, for example, Pamela talking to Daryl about Deanna...Daryl & Deanna barely shared a scene. Aaron helped her build Alexandria from nothing.

It wasn't that bad
erikahartl8 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was a bit better than the previous episode. It wasn't so terribly boring. But the unfortunate fact is that it has nothing to do with the TWD we loved.

There are too many characters and Kang is unable to use them . Lydia is just loitering, Ezekiel is hysterical, Eugene is lying to Rosita, Mercer and Princess storyline is gone, Daryl Connie storyline is gone. Gabriel is missing, Milton and CW pay a visit to Alexandria, but the show leaves out the exact purpose of the visit. There is a lot of speculation about politics, all without anyone being interested in politics. Maggie doesn't make new friends, and about 5 people remain in Hilltop under her control. Usual unrealistic shooting scenes . Scenes are simply thrown together without any particular coherence.

An amazing new political episode
contatobegames6 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What to say about episode 12?

It's another impressive episode for being perfect doing the basics. The soundtrack is great, the direction fluid and incredible.

The plot here advances but there is nothing SUPER bombastic.

About secondary cores: Core of Euguene and Ezekiel have less screen time, enough, and are great Ezekiel's dialogue with Carol about the surgery is very well written.

Euguene with "Stephanie" and Rosita are great conversations, they say more about the character than the general plot, but it's very interesting.

About the main core: The whole part of Pamela seeing the communities is great, she already met the founders of Alexandria years ago and I thought it was a great insight (I missed a mention of Rick there).

The performances are great, but by far the highlight goes to Pamela and Lance, all the looks, the wordplay, EVERYTHING wants to convey something, some meaning, it's an introspective political game that has consequences throughout the series' plot.

It's amazing to see how thorough their intentions are.

Alexandria, Hilltop and the Commonwealth?
AvionPrince161 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We learn the true identity of Stephanie who is Max in facts and that lead to more disappointment for Eugene. Ezekiel get the operation. The commonwealth go to Alexandria and the Hilltop to make some deals but Maggie is pretty worried. Ezekiel learn the truth from Carole and learn how he get up in the list and get mad because he consider this as cheating. We still have in mind the six months later flashforward and still wondering how things will turn like that and why? Pretty intriguing and still get us interest by the future events that we will see. Maggie try to know more about the commonwealth from his director. And he try to convince Maggie by power and by a new future and new possibilities. But Maggie really seem to doubt about the commonwealth's intentions and their communities. Sounds really more interesting for the next episodes and the future of our heroes. Nice episode anyway.

Comic fans will love this episode
roodoggo6 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A dialogue driven episode with little action but none the less still a bittersweet moment for comic fans.

Maggie and Aaron meet Pamela Milton and it is EXACTLY like the comics, done very well and acted brilliantly as always. Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, Melissa Mcbride, Michael James Shaw and others delivered amazing performances.

You can tell things are building up now as we are getting closer to the finale. Can't wait to see how things go.

Some great political talk expected from a Commonwealth arc, but lacking on TWD's patented action. Nothing but more setup.
frankiesilver-9183626 July 2022
This was a very fun episode to watch. Seeing the communities (even Oceanside!) again is great and Pamela and Lance's banter about them is cool to see (including the nice Deana callback that adds to the world-building).

Maggie and Pamela arguing about leadership and how communities should be was such a highlight. The show has become so political that you can pause the episodes and have full-on debates about who is right. This is exactly what a Commonwealth arc should have!

The other plots weren't as strong. Ezekiel refusing to cheat the surgery list is very in character, but I'm glad he's going through with it.

Eugene bailing on Max felt weird and I just don't care too much about their relationship. Still, both actors are putting on great performances and the reunion was sweet.

But all in all, they are setting up for some great stuff. Between Lance's mysterious plan and Mercer's warning to Daryl... I can't wait to see more of the corruption of the Commonwealth.

Max power
rmmil16 March 2022
Looking back on it as a whole, in a universe where the dead have come alive, I will still say the most unrealistic thing about this show was probably the romantic pairing of Eugene and Max. As. If.

As a side note to that impossible romance, did we need 2 of the very last episodes of this series to almost exclusively be about Eugene? There are 12 episodes left, grand total, maybe some progress beyond Eugene's love life should be made.

Oh, Maggie briefly shows up, to turn down the thing we know she'll later do. Why the holdup? Why the endless dragging with this series?

It's. The. Last. Season. Wrap. This. Garbage. Up.

Stephanie is Max
ZegMaarJus13 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Stephanie, the real one this time, but her real name is Max. Max is Mercer his sister. Ezekiel can undergo surgery, his tumor can get removed soon. Maggie, Elijah, Lydia and Dianne got reunited with Daryl and Aaron. Pamela has a first conversation with Maggie. Maggie tells to Pamela that Hilltop won't accept her offer. Eugene speaks with Max about his feelings. Dianne leaves Hilltop. Solid Episode of The Walking Dead Season 11, this was not good and not bad. The storyline is getting so many layers, that i don't understand everything.

Slow build up: This is the calm before the storm-episode
Shadowboy_25cm22 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A slow paced episode, concentrating at comparing 'The Commonwealth' and its leader, Gov. Pamela Milton, with Hilltop, Oceanside and Alexandria and its leaders, as Pamela Milton travels to these sites to connect them with The Commonwealth, and is highly impressed by Maggie and her power and charisma.

Maggie shows why she's an exceptional character, doing the right thing although it might have some negative consequences.

Further side stories are: Eugene and Max Eugene and Rosita Ezekiel and his diesease Aaron and Lance Hornsby

Some character development scenes, some more hints of conflicts between Lance Hornsby and Pamela Milton and a possible upcoming riot and change of leadership at 'The Commonwealth', and as Maggie shines as the leader of the Hilltop denying the offer by 'The Commoonwealth', there might some storm coming.

Solid episode.

"The Lucky Ones" delves delving into themes of fortune, sacrifice, and the stark disparities within the Commonwealth
fernandoschiavi4 April 2024
The woman introduces herself to Eugene as Max Mercer, who was using her mother's name as a code name. Even though she wanted to meet Eugene, once her brother Mercer caught wind of it, he covered it up when Lance also was alerted to her breach in communication protocol, and forced herself to remain quiet upon seeing Eugene with Shira. Eugene storms away due to being too hurt, but eventually goes to reconcile with Max and the pair expresses lingering interest in each other. Meanwhile, Pamela takes a tour of the Coalition's settlements and is unimpressed to hear Alexandria has fallen more than once. After meeting with Oceanside, Pamela goes to Hilltop where she debates Maggie over their different leadership styles and forms of government. Maggie is suspicious of the Commonwealth and refuses to accept aid from them, to the frustration of several Hilltop residents who decide to go join the Commonwealth. Lance is also frustrated by Maggie's decision but insists to Aaron he will persevere, seeking to build up his power to get out from under Pamela. Meanwhile, Ezekiel is admitted for surgery to remove his tumor, having been moved up the line for treatment by Lance as a favor to Carol.

"The Lucky Ones" stands as a profound and reflective episode in the eleventh season of "The Walking Dead," delving into themes of fortune, sacrifice, and the stark disparities within the Commonwealth. This episode shifts the narrative focus, juxtaposing the relative safety and prosperity of the Commonwealth's elite with the ongoing struggles of those on its periphery. Through this lens, "The Lucky Ones" offers a poignant commentary on social inequality and the arbitrary nature of survival in a post-apocalyptic world.

At the heart of this episode are the personal stories of characters who are forced to confront their pasts and the choices that have led them to the present. It's a narrative filled with emotional depth, as characters reckon with the realization that what separates them from those deemed less fortunate is often nothing more than circumstance or chance. The storytelling is nuanced, weaving together individual arcs that highlight the resilience of the human spirit and the complex motivations driving each character. These personal journeys are underscored by powerful performances that bring vulnerability and strength to the fore, emphasizing the humanity of each character amidst the chaos of their world.

"The Lucky Ones" also excels in its exploration of the moral ambiguities of leadership and the responsibilities that come with power. It questions the cost of security and the sacrifices made in the name of progress, challenging both the characters and the audience to consider the ethical implications of their actions. The episode skillfully balances these heavier themes with moments of hope and solidarity, showcasing the small victories and connections that sustain the characters through their darkest hours.

Visually, the episode is striking, utilizing the stark contrasts between the opulence of the Commonwealth and the desolation of the world outside to further highlight the thematic concerns of inequality and privilege. The direction and cinematography work in tandem to create a sense of tension and foreboding, even in moments of calm, hinting at the underlying conflicts that threaten to erupt.

In conclusion, "The Lucky Ones" is a compelling addition to "The Walking Dead's" final season, rich in thematic complexity and emotional resonance. It challenges viewers to reflect on the notions of luck, privilege, and the inherent value of all lives in a world ravaged by loss and despair. Through its thought-provoking narrative and strong character development, this episode reinforces the series' enduring exploration of what it means to be human in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Before you review...
traffordbage7 March 2022
This is not a 9. I'm doing this to counter balance people hating on any episode that doesn't have every single character they want in it, or has even five minutes of talking.

However, its a solid 7.5, a good episode with good pacing, direction (apart from audio) and some cool walker action.

We are in the final stretch of this show's story, we've moved beyond shuffling around in empty streets for food now, if you want more of that - there are other shows which are still in the early days of the apocalypse.

I think this episode is pretty good because its slowly giving us reasons to both trust and not trust many characters, and we can see whats coming - I like that.

Eugene and Max are alright, Ezekiel isn't holding grudges for 8 episodes like some other seasons with other characters, we're moving forward but still addressing things instead of overlooking them.

Absolute Power Corrupts Everywhere
claudio_carvalho20 January 2024
Gov. Pamela Milton travels with Hornsby, Mercer Darryl and an entourage to Alexandria, Hilltop and Oceanside, to confirm the agreement with Alexandria and propose a deal with the other communities. Commonwealth is helping Aaron to rebuild Alexandria and expects to help the other two too. The leader of Oceanside, Rachel, tells Pamela that whatever Maggie agrees, she will concur. Therefore, Pamela talks to Maggie while walking through the woods, trying to convince her. But Maggie declines the offer, and Dianne and other Hilltop's dwellers leave Maggie and travel to live in Commonwealth. Eugene visits Max and tells that he is sorry for his rudeness.

"The Lucky Ones" is another deceptive episode of "The Walking Dead". Hornsby seems to have his personal agenda, but Pamela Milton seems to be a smart woman. The reason why Maggie does not accept her offer seems to be because absolute power corrupts, and she is no exception. Pamela sounds reasonable with her dreams to rebuild America, but Maggie never explains what she wants for her son Herschel. My vote is six.

Reaching critical mass
infinitezer07 March 2022
It may not be for everyone, but the show has never been in a more intriguing place. Most of the remaining main cast are being written smartly in both narrative and dialogue. Commonwealth has given the show a whole new purpose, and its leaders have potential to be among the best antagonists. Compare it to three seasons ago, a show that was on its deathbed. Kang has revitalized the series through time jumps and structure to be at its peak when it concludes. That's if they can follow through on what they've been building towards.

Character Building, Wonderful Acting, Well Paced
cbuttermann7 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a solid 8.3 for me- but I am leaving a 10 to ward of the over dramatic 1's posted on this platform by those with the attention spans of a can of beans.

I loved the script of this episode- the deepening of the characters' perspectives, and actions through their past experiences being connected to the present times conflicts and conversations- masterful.

Eugene and Hornsby- Josh McDermitt, Josh Hamilton- God they were great. The unease Lance gives me is so consistently unpredictable and eerie. I love Lance Hornsby. Hats off to Josh McDermitt, his acting in this episode as well as episode 11, has been amazing. The ability to be so emotional, and deep- and- that wonderful neediness he can let out around Max, is just spectacular.

Well edited, well written, well acted, great job :)

Absolutely excruciating
robert-feeney-5966211 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ask yourself, are there any characters left that you actually care about? Eugene's schtick is beyond tired. Maggie is totally unlikeable, case in point, her main beef is that Negan killed her husband yet she has no qualms about slaughtering the remaining Reapers even though they no longer posed a threat. Listening to Princess is brutal. Rosita is insufferable. Negan, the most likeable character has been all but removed from the plotline. I know the show isn't "The Negan Hour" but don't you have to feature your most popular character as least a little? Do they really expect Christian Serratos to carry the show? And regardless of how good an actor Josh McDermitt is, "one can only muster the necessary fortitude to withstand his verbal idiosyncrasies for a certain, limited period of minutes, after which time his long-winded ramblings become like the proverbial fingernails on a chalkboard."

Yes, we know something is off with the Commonwealth, just as it was with The Governor and The Whisperers and The Wolves and Terminus and The Scavengers. But Lance and Pamela are just blah. They're not really bad. They're not really good. Just like anyone else. Maybe that will be played out in future episodes but how long do we have to wait for something to happen?

I'm pretty much done watching. I may give it another chance while I'm scrolling through my phone or doing something else, but with what this show has become I don't know how it can hold anybody's attention beyond "I've come this far, I might as well watch the rest".

This is more of a filler/set up episode but i still enjoyed it and seeing all the characters. Lance seems interesting enough as well as pamela and im excited to see where they take the story this season. I do wish we saw more of oceanside and honestly the whole max and eugene situation feels like unnecessary drama.

BS ratings
alex-georgescu-mihail7 March 2022
I am starting to believe that the staff is writing positive reviews to keep the show barely afloat until it dies for good.

Every walker showing up is not being introduced just to pass the time until the episode ends. There is absolutely nothing added to the plot by walkers anymore.

"Interesting narrative" "Never been in a more intriguing place" "Building the story"

What narrative? What story? Everything is all over the place. The characters have been incredibly dumbed down and nothing makes sense.

Only once in my life I had this feeling. And it's the feeling from the last season of Game of Thrones. It's happening again folks.

And don't get me started with the lady at the end explaining the episode. If you need to explain the episode then the episode is baaaaad.

Also, she explains it like a 3rd grader writing a composition about his summer vacation.
