A New Psychopath Joins The Battle!
MamadNobari9713 March 2022
This episode pretty much flew by so fast I thought it was only 20 minutes!

New plot lines and stories are unveil here and it seems like the show got a new governor with a pretty good actor.

This episode had a pretty good mixed chronological order that jumped between the event, but it kinda got goofy tho because we got "A Week Ago" inside another "A Week Ago" and basically a new "some times before and after" every 8 minutes.

We get a look at what Commonwealth, or rather Hornsby is doing "behind the curtains" and it pretty much confirms what character Hornsby is and what his intentions are, as it was still kinda uncertain as what he truly was before.

I'm glad we're seeing Aaron and Gabriel together again since the last season and Aaron gets the more screen time he deserves too and they're both great in this episode.

A character that left us some time ago comes back and we don't know yet how he got entangled with these people but I hope we at least a get a short flashback about it.

Anyway this episode's focal point was the new maniac and I think they picked a really good actor for it and he has the face for it too.

All in all, this episode was really unpredictable and tense at times, and it gives a better idea of how the rest of the show - at least till episode 16 - is gonna go.

Finally something GOOD to watch
HotDoggyBoomBooM14 March 2022
Week in and week out of eugene and daryl and carol and whoever at commonwealth doing daily side missions and eating ice creams and politics you dont care of .

But Now there is something to fight a new story line taking twd for one more run.

They gotta find something to make a villain out of it and they did it quiet right now.

Finally a good episode
mjb30108617 March 2022
This is the first episode of TWD that I have really enjoyed in years. I honestly don't know why I didn't give up on this show years ago but this episode has given me fresh hope that the series will finish on a high, hopefully I am not proven wrong but you never know with TWD.

Warlords feels like a The Walking Dead episode from start to finish, it's suspenseful and unpredictable but also epic
Holt34415 March 2022
Episode 11.13 titled "Warlords" is focused on the Commonwealth arc. The premise for episode 13 reads: Maggie, Lydia and Elijah help a stranger from another community called Riverbend. They run into Aaron, who tells them about a mission he embarked on with Gabriel as emissaries for the Commonwealth. I think the editing and pacing was perfect in this episode, some of the best, with some great transitions. Jim Barnes & Erik Mountain penned the script for 11.13, the overall writing was brilliant and the dialogue felt right. Overseen by Angela Kang, the writing for this episode is consistent of the previous episodes in Part 2, maybe even a bit better. The episode uses the big budget wisely, making it brilliant both technically and the acting and so on, the camera work are brilliant and it's visually a great episode, an overall impressive production.

Loren Yaconelli directed 11.13 "Warlords" and the direction was surprisingly brilliant, there are so many great scenes in this episode and there's not one single bad performance throughout the entire episode. The cinematography is once again breathtaking and incredible, just right for the show, the way it was shot and so on, simply brilliant. The sets were detailed and perfect, and so are the art and production design. Superb sound design and a musical score both gripping and dramatic. It's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show succeeds perfectly with.

As this was a direct follow-up to the previous episode which ended with Pamela Milton finishing the long awaited tour of Alexandria and Hilltop. The best performances were Seth Gilliam as Gabriel Stokes, Ross Marquand as Aaron, Jason Butler Harner as Toby Carlson and guest star Michael Biehn. Honestly these two actors, Ross and Seth are brilliant together and their characters are too incredible. But what surprised me was Harner and the character Toby Carlson, with his character and Lance Hornsby, we get to truly see the darker side of the Commonwealth. In my opinion, Jason Butler Harner is a great addition to the cast and Toby Carlson is a character I didn't think we would need but after watching the episode I'm 100% behind him and his ties to Hornsby, his performance were the episode's best. It was also nice to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan again.

"Warlords" has lots of things that fans of The Walking Dead will like. Angela Kang is truly giving the Commonwealth arc a lot of depth and I'm liking it a lot, Part 2 continues to be amazing and we're getting closer to the flashforward. This episode feels 100% like a TWD episode, not saying that the Commonwealth heavy episodes doesn't, but for the non graphic novel readers, 11.13 is more similar to previous seasons and for a good reason at that as it gives us viewers something fresh but also an episode that furthers the Commonwealth plot. I'm sure this is an episode many will like and if not for the acting and story the episode is telling, it's hundred percent for the callbacks to previous seasons. But just wow, this was a perfect TWD episode.

Best episode of season 11 so far!
kataleja-martyr13 March 2022
As expected, this is how Commonwealth operates. What a great episode.

It felt like it lasted only for 10 minutes. Time just flew by. You're so screwed now, Lance.

What A Day !
tristan_1913 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Warlords is the best episode since No Other Way, and one of the best of the season. It sets the stakes and knows how to provide thrills and suspense.

My man Petty from Ozark is reincarnated into Toby Carlson, who is definitely one of the best threats of Season 11, and you could say the same for Ian, even though he wasn't featured for more than one episode.

The acting is stunning. Gabriel has some fantastic moments, and The Walking Dead depicts a church scene that reminded me of Daredevil a little bit, with profound dialogue and reminiscing. Loved the mention of 'Strangers', bringing us back to Season 5 episode 2, in which Gabriel was introduced.

Lydia finally gets well deserved screen time and speaks her mind. Negan makes a surprise appearance, and the out of order scenes in the episode help increase the mystery. The cinematography is excellent, all the way from Elijah shooting an arrow, to showing Carlson on a roof. Hornsby still lurks in the background.

And the cliffhanger is well done and really earned. I feel the tide turning for the season, and it is finally starting to unravel. The Rotten (episode 14) looks even better.

epic episode
emmarosecarroll13 March 2022
A really solid episode tbh. Started a little bit slow at first, but once the action started i was hooked. Very very good although all the time changes were a little weird at first, but it was still very cool how it revealed everything.

Great talent creates great episodes...
xxxNomadicxxx13 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have been a harsh critic for the Walking Dead since the 5th season because of talentless actors/actress they have been using.

But

Michael Biehn and Jason Butler Harner bought a new life to the walking dead this episode. This Episode might be labeled Warlord, but the way the Ex-CIA agent infratrated this compound, he is more scarier than any one warlord I have seen on the series.

Climax is coming
fqmqgsn13 March 2022
Yet another episode where things are building up but has great dialogue and some action to pass by. This episode closely mirrors 10x19 not only because of Gabriel and Aaron but them convincing people they do not have to become the dead world because of their past experiences. A handful of new characters introduced and, despite this being the last season, each of them make me want to see their backgrounds and past adventures. Preferably in Tales of The Walking Dead.

Good episode, only critique was the sequencing of jumping back and forth with the time. If it weren't for the abrupt ending I think it would've worked better. Solid, can't wait for everything to come together next episode.

Wasn't expecting it to be this good
Leofwine_draca3 October 2022
So this was another decent episode and a surprise given the haltering nature of the show that comes naturally these days. There's plenty going on and the return of fan favourite Negan is a big asset too. However, for me, the big draw is the set-piece interview with Michael Biehn's community leader. I wasn't expecting it to be so filled with suspense. Biehn's appearance has changed quite drastically in recent years and he certainly plays an imposing role here. The tension in this sequence reminded me of the classic bar scene between Rick and the thugs in season two of the show, still one of my favourite moments in the whole series.

Well, that's what viewers needed...
mihmichael25 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
With just 11 episodes left, all we need to see is lesser characters finding new settlements, fighting and similar. We desperately need new characters after 12 years and with 11 episodes remaining. That is sarcasm, of course. I surely hope Angela Kang will never get work on TV again, just like all the TWD writers because after season 4 this has been an awful excuse for a TV show. Finish the story! Ohh, you can't because you need to take money from the fans with 100 spin-offs and movies? OK, then.

hariharan-8304513 March 2022
I thought how they're going to portray Commonwealth members as villain but tgis episode did it in a correct way I don't say it's a great episode but this one is really awesome compared to previous 2 episodes the typical TWD dark toneis maintained very well in this episode but again I don't know how they're going to manage the storyline but still it's enjoyable and fans will definitely love it.

ryan-hanna13 March 2022
I would rather a 16 episode final season with all episodes full of action like this one, instead of a 24 episode season where we get episodes like the previous two with eugene's boring storyline.

better
Rob-O-Cop16 March 2022
A much more efficient episode. IT didn't mess about which is not something you can say for anything we've seen in the last few years from this series and its spinoffs.

Not a lot of zombie action, as if they weren't a problem any more. Gabriel and Aaron both delivered well. New baddy, new other baddy qho was good but killed off quickly. I think we're all getting a little bit wary of yet another baddy from nowhere threatening everything.

Not bad.
gerardchalaux15 July 2022
This is an interesting episode, because despite the intentions to make the Commonwealth look bad by presenting this "Shoot first ask questions later" side of things I can't help but understand their point of view.

Just imagine the situation, you have a community with over 50k people in a post-apocalyptic world where zombies, psychopaths, cannibals, raiders and all kinds of evil murderous groups constantly predate thriving communities; you'd do anything to defend what you have built, specially considering you are the king of the jungle. I really don't understand why Aaron and Gabe would suddenly side with a group of random people they don't know, endangering everyone else in Alexandria, Hilltop and Oceanside in the process. To me, this makes no sense and just serves as an excuse by the writers to make the Commonwealth an enemy.

Hypocrites
wojciech-9646829 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The whole episode was disgusting because suddenly and magically Gabriel and Aron's conscience woke up. Suddenly they forgot that they were killing or allowing others to kill more or less guilty people, but here they had to become heroes and defend a psychopath who collects the skulls of his enemies and didn't care to think that people from the "community" had their reasons to attack them. At the end I will say that this series is close to the bottom, because the authors of this series have to look for some problems and enemies one after another. And Gabriel and Aron really pissed me off and I hope these heroes die in terrible agony.

The Start of Everything! - Can't Wait for Whats to Come!
tomiscool1234513 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While the premise of the plot could be considered entertaining "filler", the overall episode gives us a huge insight into the CW and what they're really doing behind the scenes. Lance has been showcased as this sneaky, power hungry criminal in the past, but this episode proves just how sinister he really is. I mean, sending out a team to slaughter a whole community, while lying too Aaron and Gabriel. Come on now.

I am happy they involved Maggie in this plot too. We are starting to build up to the 11x09 cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what comes from it. This season is really starting to ramp up & I am excited to continue the ride. The promo for episode 14 looks even better.

So What Did We Learn Tonight?
sevenlilxenos21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Target practice on random Walkers is a one way to pass time while on guard duty.

Hitting on chicks in the ZA is a lil different than pre-ZA.

You can take the Preacher out of the Church, but you can't take the Preaching out of the Preacher for very long.

Having Michael Biehn (aka Cprl Dwayne Hicks and Kyle Reese) play a psycho group leader was one of the best casting moves TWD has ever made.

Killing off Michael Biehn's character Ian so quickly was one of the worst decisions TWD writer's have ever made.

Bald headed chicks in the ZA are usually bad azzes plus no one can grab their hair in a fight.

Ian keeping the skulls of his enemies like a Predator does, is just what you would expect from a former star of the movie Aliens.

Having an apparent lame suddenly turn into a bad azz Special Forces CIA type of killer like Carlson did is always a nice unexpected twist.

Watching someone like Carlson back down, push around and punk out that lil weasel Lance Hornsby is always fun.

Aaron got rather lucky that the gun Carlson took from Ian only holds 14 bullets in the clip and 1 in the chamber.

Watching Father Gabriel in Bad Azz mode is much more interesting than listening to his sermons.

Its about time we got Negan back too bad he didn't get to interact with Ian.

Its a good thing Carlson quit drinking, well almost, as mean as he is sober can you imagine him drunk?

Tossing someone off a 7 story building is the perfect amount of time necessary for a good Wilhelm scream.

Juggling the timeline can be confusing unless when done right as was the case here.

Best Line: (Gabriel) I wanted you to see who I was before learning what I was.

9.5 One of the best in the last few years.
