An Entertaining But Predictable Episode
declanoneil5 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The showdown between Maggie and Leah would have been REALLY tense and suspenseful had Maggie's spin off not been announced. Daryl killed her without remorse, would have liked to have seen more of a reaction from him. Would have liked to have seen Leah kill someone of importance, she was just a minor inconvenience and completely mis-used. Might as well have died with the rest of the reapers, which was a poor arc in itself. Why has no one important died yet? 16 episodes into the final season and Kang is playing it far too safe with all the characters. Disappointed that Pamela Milton has only been in 3 episodes this season, only in only 2 minor scenes in this episode. She is a important character and she's being neglected. Where's Yumiko gone she's not been in an episode since EP9. Luke not been in an episode or referred to since S10 EP16 even though the show has returned to Oceanside twice since then! Poor writing!!! As much as I love the commonwealth arc, Kang is playing it far too safe this season. I would have liked to have seen more of the commonwealth in the first part of season 11 instead of the arc with the reapers. The reapers should have replaced the poor filler arcs that were in the bonus episodes of season 10. The cinematography of this episode is excellent, it is entertaining and suspenseful. Lance Hornsby is a great villain and character and is being used to his full potential. Entertaining but again another underwhelming finale just as 1108 was.

Musical delight
tristan_193 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Acts of God is a great episode. The cold open sets the stage from the get go and leaves us wanting more right away.

Lance is an absolute treat, like always. The suspense is felt at the right moments. The direction is superb, and the music is outstanding in this one. I do feel the lack of stakes tho, and the reluctance to kill or harm main characters. Maggie trusting Negan is odd, but understandable.

The action is on point, with the camera following the characters. The fighting scenes are well done, and the lighting is adequate. Maggie, Daryl and Hornsby shine the most, with Max having a big part to play. Sebastian is more unsettling than ever. The actor is fantastic. You will experience stress and tension during this episode and the cliffhanger is pretty cool.

The structure of the season ensures that the core of the story is barely beginning, 16 episodes in, with Pamela being exposed, and only 8 episodes to resolve everything, plus ending all of our characters' stories satisfactorily (except for folks having their own spinoffs, because their journey will continue). I just hope 11C has at least decent progression in all of its episodes, and without it being too rushed. It will be interesting to see how they manage that.

Lance and Maggie steal the show
ngregas-375643 April 2022
Lance is such an awesome villan and super intriging. Maggie is finaly becoming fealing like the main charecter besides Daryl and her arc since season 2 has bean wonderful to watch. Not giving this episode a 10 because of the insanely rushed pace of this epispde. A few episodes ago we got a whole Eugene love story epsiode and then all the most important parts feel rushed (Only 40 minute runtime?? For the mid season finale????)

Wow this episode was great!
dradus3 April 2022
Once again Angela Kang proves that she knows what she is doing. I mean this episode was so intense, action packed, had some really good dialogue and the acting was great as usual. The soundtrack was insanely good... this episode is quite literally flawless. The final season rocks and I'm sooo excited for 11c.

Is it TWD?
nightwolf-404262 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was like a Bollywood movie and it was very weak and the fictional action was not exciting. And aiming to shoot Gabriel with his blind eye. Jeffrey Dean Morgan also has great potential and can make the series much better. I was disappointed that the writers made us see fewer scenes of him.

Really felt like a season finale
kataleja-martyr3 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The haunting "predator" scene with Maggie standing alone in the dark woods is awesome.

Daryl feels nothing for Leah, now that he knew she's just another lost soul. Headshot. The end.

Acts of God delivers a short but action packed episode, but comes across as a lackluster mid-season finale
Holt3444 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of episode 11.16 titled "Acts of God": Maggie prepares to defend Hilltop and the people of Riverbend against Hornsby. Lots of plot threads, character development and individual arcs led to this moment and the reappearance of Leah Shaw may make this even more of a dangerous plan of Lance Hornsby. The editing and pacing was perfect in this episode, with some great transitions and overall great editing to be found. Nicole Mirante-Matthews penned the script for 11.16 and I think the script was spectacular, the overall writing was brilliant and the dialogue felt right. Overseen by Angela Kang, the writing for this episode is consistent of the previous episodes in Part 2. The episode uses the big budget wisely, making it brilliant both technically and the acting and so on, the camera work are brilliant and visually a great episode, an overall impressive production.

Catriona McKenzie directed "Acts of God" and she brought some fine direction, some fine visual storytelling and simply something real. She directed a brilliant TWD episode. There are so many great scenes in this episode and there's not one single bad performance throughout the entire episode. Scenes that are beautifully shot, scenes that are acted through the roof, and every other department and people working on the episode, terrific work. The close ups used, the attention to detail and all the shots in the nature, they nailed it on the camera side of things. The cinematography is once again breathtaking and incredible, just right for the show, the way it was shot and so on, simply brilliant. The sets were detailed and perfect, and so are the art and production design. I also found the effects to be fantastic in this episode, practical effects always makes it so more real, and The Walking Dead is known for their practical effects and they didn't let us down for this episode. Superb sound design and a musical score both gripping and dramatic. It's one of many things on the technical side of things that the show succeeds perfectly with.

"Acts of God" has lots of things that fans of The Walking Dead will like. It's the mid-season finale of S11B and I anticipated it to be big and it was, but was too short for a mid-season finale and also quite rushed. I don't know why AMC didn't give them a 50 or 60 minute episode as they normally do for big episodes like these, I wished they would have. But non the less, the tension and suspension is almost constant in every scene, much to thank to the musical score. It's also a flaw as the more dramatic aspect of the show takes a step back, but TWD delivered a fast paced episode with lots of thrills and action. The action sequences felt extremely well executed, I loved all of them, but with only one death and small injuries, the characters felt too safe. I expected this episode to lean more into the tension in the Commonwealth and transition it nicely with the action sequences at Hilltop, they failed the political tension, and if they could have taken a point in The Man in the High Castle's playbook, "Acts of God" would have been a perfect TWD episode. But what we got was a episode focused on the Maggie and Leah feud, I hope people will find it enjoyable as I did, but it could have been much better, something other than two people's hatred for each other, something bigger and more ambiguous. S11C might meet my expectations, at least Leah Shaw is gone and we can put that storyline behind us. Another thing that was missing with the mid-season finale was how many of the main and supporting characters were missing, for example; Carol, Rosita, Princess and Mercer for an example. They should have appeared in the episode. The best performances were Lauren Cohan as Maggie Greene, Josh Hamilton as Lance Hornsby and Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon. But honestly, Josh Hamilton should be nominated for an award for his performance as Lance Hornsby, it's just incredible and one of the best performances since Samantha Morton's Alpha (from the antagonists) and the thing I love about the character is how he isn't a psychopath like a lot of the antagonists are. He have easily been the best part of S11B and I hope it continues that route. Lauren Cohan too deserves a lot of praise, she continues to nail the character and I think the time off from the show was needed for her, as she came back with new fire in her, and it shows. But let's talk a bit about the ending and the overall season, with Commonwealth literally taking over Alexandria, Hilltop and Oceanside. I love that route, but expected it to happen back in episode 13 or 14 (from when we watched episode 9) I think filling out that 6 month period of time took too long, as the rest of the episodes could easily been used to build upon the political intrigue, the tension at Commonwealth and Hilltop, thus making S11B better and more memorable. I still liked what we got but it could have been better, this wouldn't be a criticism if we would have gotten a 12th season like we were supposed too.

But to end my review on a positive note, I thought the episode was great and if you watch it in the mindset of solely getting the ending of Maggie and Leah's feud and Hornsby's attack on Hilltop, the episode were actually brilliant. But for the bigger Commonwealth story, it was a bit lackluster.

Was hoping for more
fountasalexander3 April 2022
It's no lie that this season has been mediocre, but this is the 2nd mid season finale with 8 episodes to go, and it just didn't fully deliver.

This is the FINAL SEASON, the reapers should have never existed as they were useless, these commonwealth scenes feel so repetitive and useless, this episode was okay.

Also since when did Lance Hornsby become Harvey Dent with his coin flipping...

Hopefully 11C is amazing because honestly this season has been disappointing.

Decent Part B Finale
MamadNobari973 April 2022
It was ok, but I guess I expected more from a part two finale that I have to wait for like another 4 months to watch the rest of.

I read some reviews that said it was rushed and I have to disagree. Rushed would've been dealing with the Commonwealth once and for all and closing that chapter, which didn't happen.

The only thing that got closure in this episode was the Leah arc, and I'm glad it's finally over, and you already know who's gonna finish it before even watching the episode, but it's an apt ending to that nonetheless.

This episode mainly revolves around Hornsby and Maggie and the plot B has way less scenes to be even called the plot B, but it's also there I guess.

This episode suffers from the "no establishing scenes" thing I mentioned in previous episodes' reviews, because one thing I didn't get was why were our badass trio of Daryl, Aaron and Gabriel still with the Storm Troopers, and why were they even clearing houses. I also didn't get what that abandoned big house was and why were everybody going there. It just felt like we missed an episode or something. Or maybe I'm too dense to get it. But if those reviews that said this was rushed meant these plots and scenes without buildup, then they are right.

We also have a nice shootout scene at the begging, and I can kinda cut the Storm Troopers some slack because they do in fact shoot at those characters they're shooting at, but they still had lots of good chances to kill them easily but they still couldn't shoot. The scene ended too soon too and out of nowhere.

Hornsby has gone full insane and I guess we'll have to wait 4 months to see what he's gonna do when we will have forgotten about this part by then.

We also have the plot b that and there's really not much to talk about. The only thing odd with it was the scene with the Mayor's son and Max and I guess he was drunk? But it was weird and pointless nonetheless, I guess they needed to create a cheap tension for that stealing scene.

And I'm not really sure why we didn't even see what the secret group Hornsby was working with that included Eugene's fake ex girlfriend even do and what their purpose is.

Anyway, this episode does move the Commonwealth plot forward, but as a finale to this part I expected it to give closure to more loose ends, not just Leah's.

I just hope they don't rush the Commonwealth's plot like they did with the Reapers and somehow integrate it with whatever they're gonna do with Michonne and maybe Rick in the next part. I guess they kinda did with having Hornsby recruit Leah, but that didn't last long and the Reapers' plot still ended way too soon and suddenly. Watch Agents of S. H. I. E. L. D's season 4 and see how the writers masterfully do three different plots in one season and combine and integrate, and give closure to them beautifully at the end of the season.

I hope it's like that and they don't botch this show's ending, I really hope.

A Mediocre Midseason Finale
justdan20234 April 2022
I was expecting more of this episode. More deaths. More mid-season finale-vibe. But I didn't get all that.

The ending is great but a bad ending. They shouldn't just end part 2 with that. So many questions lingering inside my mind right now, like too much, even for the walking dead.

But the music was beautiful and it was so intense!!!

But I was upset Carol, Rosita and Jerry didn't make an appearance in this episode. Sigh, I hope 11C will be a bang cuz this episode is just...beautiful but bad at the same time, do you know what I mean?

Acts of God
bobcobb30128 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, we'll start with the positives for this. Maggie was not as insufferable as she has been at most points this season and in the past, but it is still way too hard to root for this character.

It also seems like the idea of an evil Governor i slowly unraveling and that is something we literally have seen before.

I want the show to go out on a high note, but it doesn't look like we are heading there. Instead of trying to set up a future spin-off for some characters we need to just ensure that The Walking Dead ends on the right note with the right characters getting the right payoff in the end.

Eh
emmarosecarroll4 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Look, I love TWD but this was so underwhelming. This episode had a lot of potential but it all fell flat. Random bugs migrating through the sky?? Literally what was the point of that. Why did they keep Leah alive at the start of the season? Daryl just killed her with zero hesitation and she contributed absolutely nothing to the plot besides being a minor annoyance. Should've just had Maggie kill her when she killed the rest of her family.

Some of the action scenes were intense, but like half of the characters are already guaranteed to live because of the spin-offs so there wasn't really any tension. I enjoy the whole Maggie and Negan relationship, but even that feels kind of stale. I really want to like the Commonwealth arc but I feel like it's been such a drag for them to get to this point and for them to finally start exposing them. Like, we waited eight whole episodes and endured all the set up, and we didn't even get to see anything interesting.

I'm just so confused as to why the hell they needed the reaper storyline when it had zero significance and they could've just started the commonwealth arc early. I'm really hoping 11C will just be eight 10/10 action-packed episodes, but after this idk how they're gonna end this show.

This is what mattered
fqmqgsn3 April 2022
Acts of God showed the first shots fired between the commonwealth and our heroes. We can see the real problem of the commonwealth in its truest form and see the revolt begin.

I am praying these final 8 episodes of the series will not waste time adding any extra religious groups or new girlfriends and they will get straight to the point of action because this episode should've been here a while ago and it being the last of part 2 will not hold me over the next 4-5 months

Also thought things were pretty predictable so when they all happened it was not that shocking to me.

CRAZY DELICIOUS EPISODE with a mistake
byramfurkanefe3 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode is so exciting, enjoyable and important start to finish. Leah and Maggie fight is perfect and Leah's death is so fast. Wish they didn't say 'Maggie won't die'because this killed the exciting but fight is still so good. Fight against CW soldiers of Daryl-Aaron-Gabe have some mistakes. Also music which in episode start to finish is killing the TWD vibes. Musics are good but it's so unnecessary in some times. Also episode is big set-up for resist the Commonwealth.

It's crazy Good!
elliotjarvis18 June 2022
I gave up on TWD a few years ago around the time Carl got killed off after around 4 seasons of absolute dribble I just couldn't put myself through it anymore! When I heard it was coming to an end I made an effort to get back into it to see how it played out. After working my brain cells through season season 8-9, season 10 really took off and I started to enjoy the show again. Tonally there was a shift, I'm not sure if there were new show runners or better writers and directors but everything changed from season 10. Now season 11 was something else. It took the pedi stool that season 10 was standing on and raised it up so high that it's honestly been an absolute thrill ride from start to finish! TV so good that I was uber excited for the next episode (think of that GOT feeling in it's prime) Probably my top 2 seasons next to season 3. I'm writing this just after finishing episode 16 and I cannot wait for the remaining 8 episodes. Fantastic entertainment. Well done.

Why are there so many people just want to talk about how bad is the show though it IS the greatest show ever and especially this season i mean this season is all about politics and it does not have to be horror and action to be interesting there is a great story in this season and great acting and please do not forget that it is filming during c.o.v.i.d why are the rates so bad i do not know and the reapers' story was so interesting and good we all should give 10/10..

good episode, HORRIBLE MID SEASON FINALE
camilosantiagox3 April 2022
I mean, at this point season 11 is just going to be Maggie being grumpy and Aaron talking bad to people he loves wth Angela.

But I still have hope, I just know things in 11C are going down, people are going to die, thing are going to burn. Hornsby is MAD.

If it wasn't ACTION PACKED, it was massively INTENSE
tomiscool123453 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was SO good. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. If it wasn't fighting, gun fire or death & destruction....then it was MASSIVELY intense. Leah & Maggie stalking each other through the woods was so exciting. The way they made it silent added to the stakes massively. Their fight at the end was great too & I am happy Leah got the upper hand, before Daryl came in & wiped her out. She is ex mercenary...and Maggie's plot armour didn't save her.

The stuff in the Commonwealth was just as intense too. It's all going to come crumbling down & I can't wait to see it happen. My only complaint is I wish everyone who is at the Commonwealt, was in the room when they made that call. Rosita? Carol? Mercer? Princess? It would've been a great moment to see everyone standing round that table, sort of like "So....are we doing this?", sort of moment, because they know it will backfire on them.

Other than that though, what an episode. The music in the ending cliffhanger was phenomenal & really ramped up the stakes for 11c. I really hope this show manages to bring it home!

Kinda underwhelming....
lambo63711 April 2022
I was kinda underwhelmed by this episode. It just didn't feel like a typical walking dead mid-season finale. It definitely wasn't a bad episode by any means and was certainly better than a lot of the filler episodes that The Walking Dead has come to be known for over the last couple of seasons. I get that they're building up for the final third part of the season but it just felt like it was missing some things... Hopefully this was just setting up for an excellent third part premiere episode.

Who Would Be the Successor of Pamela Milton?
claudio_carvalho22 January 2024
Maggie leaves Hilltop with her son Herschel, Elijah and Marco to a Whisperers' hideout where the survivors of Riverbend are. She leaves the reluctant Herschel there and asks Negan to protect her son. Hornsby divides the troopers in two groups and asks the trooper Romano to check a house, sending Daryl, Aaron and Gabriel with them. Later he sends a message to Romano to execute the trio at a junkyard. However, they note the troopers surrounding them and assume it is an ambush. There is a shootout and Daryl, Aaron and Gabriel kill the troopers. At Hilltop, a group of soldiers of Leah enter the building but activate a booby trap that explodes and kills them all. Maggie, Lydia, Elijah and Marco see that Hornby is not there and when they stand up to leave, Marco is hit by Leah that survived the explosion. Soon Hornsby arrives at Hilltop with his troopers and learns that Maggie did not die. Maggie is hunted down by Leah, while Hornsby and his soldiers take over Alexandria, Hilltop and Oceanside.

"Acts of God" is an episode of "The Walking Dead" with a great action. The swarm of locust is a lost scene and has no explanation; maybe only to give the title of this show. Eugene and his group want to overthrow Pamela Milton, but who should be her successor? Bringing chaos to Commonwealth is not the solution. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Deus" ("God")

I have been there since 2010
shedid_amr9127 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's been 12 years since I have been watching the series, I have some questions!

WTH is going on?

1- Where is Dog? What happened to the show's best living character and why has he been written out? This is like when Game Of Thrones ghosted Ghost. Not cool, AMC.

2- Michonne seriously?

3- Leah! Leah has been inexplicably positioned as this fearsome huntress out for revenge against Maggie-but also as Daryl's long-lost love interest. The problem with all of this is that so little of that was established in a believable way. Daryl and Leah's relationship barely got off the ground before she was off becoming a Reaper. When they meet up (years?) later there's no spark there, because an actual romance was never cooked up in the first place, no wonder daryl must be the one who will take here life not just that but also in leah's home!

4- Negan Oh Negan, Magie! So after all just now she decided to forgive him!

Sorry I can't figure many questions right now but I grew old with this series and I'm really disappointed.

Time for the FTWD now!

Well that was... Okay I guess?
matp-476005 April 2022
This episode was such a mixed bag of good and bad I don't know how to feel about it. In general Im kinda disappointed considering how great episodes 13-15 were. Pretty much nothing unpredictable happened here. There were no major deaths (only VERY minor characters) despite the episode seemingly foreshadow a big death early on.

The action was great in some parts and really strange in some parts and straight up bad and janky in other parts. We got to see a little bit of everyone, all of Negan, Aaron, Gabriel and Maggies scenes were great for the most part but the death scene of one particular character seemed really lackluster, even for a minor character. Overall, as a mid-season finale of THE FINAL SEASON I expected so much more out of this episode. I think the announcement of the spin-offs really takes some exciting momentum away from the final season that we felt going into it.

So on the whole, a pretty average episode from The Walking Dead. Not great, not terrible, just okay. Doesnt exactly leave me with much excitement going into the last 8 episodes.

Well deserved finale to part 2
cthirlby3 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After a slow part 2 which I did enjoy btw, this was some well deserved episode filled with action. The action was all well shot and was brutal and unexpected. Loved the fight between Leah and Maggie was a fight that felt rewarding. Lance as a character I love and he's become like a two face character which is really fun. Can't wait for part 3 because of how they ended it I'm sure it'll be action packed.
