A journey full of beautiful landscapes and nice encounters: first of all Saint-Louis, a town with a great history (capital of French Vest Africa from 1895-1902): Oumar Fall explains that Saint-Louis has three parts: the sandy peninsula (Langue de Barbarie), the island and the mainland town: the Senegal River cross the city who has been declared "Unesco World Heritage site" for its old colonial buildings. Ismaël goes fishing with Oumar and they go to the Guesthouse Jamm managed by Dior Diagne-Lamour: they prepare then the " Thieboudienne": the fish is marinated with parsley, lemon, garlic, onions and wild radish, later cooked with tomato paste and vegetables and finally the rice is added: Doir, Oumar and Ismaël eat enjoy the dish drinking a ginger juice. On the morning Ismaël visit the cafe of Oumar and they drink coffee. Then Ismael meets Gnagna Ndiaye and Khady Faye Ngombé of Mobiciné of Sint Louis, they go to the village of Makhana whre they organized an outdoor cinema and show a film about the dangers of the clandestine migration to Europe. Then Ismaël meets Kaaw Dieng a guide and they go by boat on the Senegal River to the town of Sagana, they buy a gift for the village chief, travel on a horse carriage to the village of Goumel: They give the gift (fabric) to the chief of the village, Abou Niassanté Diallo and also notebooks and pencils for the children. Kaaw and Ismaël will sleep in a typical hut and on the morning Ismaël speak with Ouley Diallo who makes wickerwork (mats). Later Ismaël takes the boat to Podor:_ the teacher Thierno Baba Ly receives him in the school: in the street they meet a lot of people dancing and singing because the football team of Podor has won a local championship: they visit the photo studio of Oumar Ly where they can see nice pictures of the people of Podor in the colonial and independence era and they visit also the Fort of Podor (built in 1744 by the French and restord by Faidherbe): an nice panorama over Podor and the Senegal River. Later Thierno and Ismaël travel by motorbike to Ngawlé: a village with mud-walled houses; they meet a "pekan" , traditional singer who sings about the river and they see young men in a Senegalese wresling fight.
Besides I enjoyed tjhe zooms about the dugout regatta in Saint-Louis.,about the women who are reforesting the mangrove along the Senegal river and now harvesting oysters, about the Senegalese women and their elegance, about the Senegal river and the trade between the Senegalese part and the Mauritanian part at Rosso (ferry crossing the river each day with goods, but also cars and lorries coming from Morocco), about the promotion of the agriculture (the young people participate in the program called "Ferme Factory) and about the baobab tree and all its products (leaves transformed in powder for cooking or medicine, the pulp of the fruits transformed in flour, etc).
I enjoyed all the nice encounters of Ismaël and the kindness of the Senegalese men and women.
