Generally hated newspaper columnist Joey Conway, whose witty but often dubious criticism wrecked many careers, is murdered. Although lieutenant Gene Hunt hated Conway for adding lies to his truly abusive record, he agrees with the commissioner to handle the case by the book, for fear of his press colleagues. Sam however completely looses his cool when he recognizes from the future gallery owner Tony Crane, who will raise professionally and continue killing flippant young female artists, so Sam wants to save Tony's present protégée by all means, despite herself and the whole precinct, never mind a restraining order and ruined restaurant owner Demetri Pantos's macho confession.
