Defeat Gomess!
clayface931 December 2019
A friend gave me the DVD collection of this show for Christmas. So I will watch every episode and review them. In this first episode, some workers are digging a tunnel when a kaiju is awoken. It looks like a repurposed Godzilla costume. A worker sees the kaiju, but the foreman doesn't believe him because the worker is an alcoholic. A tomboyish female reporter is sent to investigate the story, flown there by two helicopter pilots. At the sight of the tunnel, these three meet a nerdy bespectacled boy, who insists that the kaiju is Gomess, a legendary monster who can only be defeated by a bird monster named Litra. I shouldn't reveal any more of the plot than that. This episode plays out like a half hour kaiju movie, although the effects aren't as good as a feature film, given the budget for a half hour television show.

The Birth of the Ultra Series
MlleSedTortue8 August 2020
As the first episode of Ultra Q, defeat Gomess is a good start at bring the spectacle of kaiju cinema to the small screen. We get a nice introduction of our three leads as the show establishes it's anthology mystery format.

Tsuburaya does a good job of brining his cinematic effects to the small screen. Much like the original Godzilla, the B&W image helps the effects. Speaking of Godzilla you might notice that Gomess looks quite familiar. That's because Gomess is a modified Godzilla suit from 1964's Mothra vs Godzilla.

Overall it's a enjoyable way to kick off the series.
