In defense of Fulci's last few films
Woodyanders10 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary on the movies Italian horror splatter maestro Lucio Fulci made towards the end of his life and career takes into account the smaller budgets and health issues Fulci was dealing with at the time. Despite those issues, Fulci's later work still shows flashes of brilliance, with Cat in the Brain in particular standing out as an audacious piece of self-reflexive cinema that prefigures Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Actor Brett Halsey shares some fond memories of acting in two of Fulci's latter movies while Ottaviano Del'Acqua remembers Fulci as a very demanding director. Various notable genre experts including Kim Newman and Calum Waddell also offer their two cents on Fulci's latter work. Worth a watch for Fulci fans.
