Liz' story in loosely inspired in the director's experience as a preteen. She was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and overcame the eating disorder when 16,17.
Butterfly Diaries is the first Brazilian feature project to have participated ad the ACE MUNDUS Program.
The director created a transmedia project named "On Our Distorted Vision" (Sobre Nossa Visão Distorcida) in 2015, alerting teenagers about eating disorders, 7 years prior releasing Butterfly Diaries. With this project, the director served as cover girl to brands such as Clinique and Buscofem.
Butterfly Diaries is the only Brazilian feature project up to 2023 to have attended the Cinefondation's (Cannes Film Festival) L'Atelier Program.
Butterfly Diaries participated at various development programs, such as Encuentro Internacional de CoProductores (Festival Internacional de Cinema de Cartagena), Europe Latin American CoProduction Forum at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and BoliviaLab.
