Most of the big fall pictures we've looked at the potential pros and cons of so far have been more serious in nature -- unsurprising, considering that films at this time of year tend to be targeting the Oscars. Sure, there's the light-hearted animation "Wreck-It Ralph," but we've also had "Lincoln," "Skyfall," "Flight," "Django Unchained," and "Les Miserables," most of which are likely to be relatively light on laughs (though will probably turn out to be funnier than some of the upcoming so-called comedies like "Playing For Keeps" and "Parental Guidance"). Could Judd Apatow's "This Is 40" be something of a breath of fresh air? The comedy giant has had a mixed few years since he last directed, with producing efforts like "Bridesmaids" and "Girls" winning acclaim, but "Wanderlust" and "Five-Year Engagement" disappearing without a trace....

Trailers can give us chills, laughs, goose bumps and some even anger us. We can’t always post them all, so here’s where we play catch up; watch More Trailers:

Ingredients: grizzled, growly Clint Eastwood + a sports movie + new fangled tech vs. old school know how + father/daughter story = one treacly movie. The first trailer for "Trouble With The Curve" has arrived, and actually, it's not unlike "Playing For Keeps" which dropped today as well, just aged up with a few tweaks. Instead of a soccer pro looking for redemption and a new life with his ex-wife and kid, it's an old-timey baseball scout trying to mend fences with his daughter as they chase a promising young player, while his eyesight continues to decline. There's not much nuance here, with Eastwood essentially reprising his "Gran Torino" role and gruffly keeping anyone who tries to make a connection at bay. There's Justin Timberlake trying to win the old man's approval with this charm as well as Amy Adams', and a bunch of faceless baseball drones discounting Eastwood's years of experience "Moneyball" style.

Fitting: After five or so years of “early” development, Ant-Man gets the go-ahead from Marvel Studios and, yet, is still nothing more than a series of questions. Who’s shrinking down? How will it fit with Edgar Wright‘s style? Most importantly, when does it come out?
The lattermost question may have been given its answer — well, sort of may have. Marvel’s co-president, Louis D’Esposito, told Collider (via /Film) that a wrap on The World’s End could, in theory, let Wright get… right down to shooting Ant-Man and, thus, let it be their “third film” in 2014. (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy being the other two.)
Here was his exact quote on the matter:
“That might be an opportunity where we do a third film, depending on his schedule when he finishes World’s End. But he’s such a competent filmmaker; the script is in great shape.

FilmDistrict has changed the name of "Playing the Field" starring Gerard Butler to "Playing for Keeps." According to Deadline, the release date is still the same though, opening on December 7th, 2012. The Nu Image/Millennium Films comedy also stars Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Judy Greer, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid. In Playing for Keeps, Butler stars as a former professional athlete with a weak past who makes an effort at redemption in trying to coach his son's soccer team, only to find himself struggling to resist scoring with the restless and stunning soccer moms.

Today's batch of MPAA ratings are a little light, but one in particular caught my eye. The title Partysaurus Rex will be the third Toy Story Toons short to come from Pixar on the heels of Hawaiian Vacation and Small Fry. I can only assume it will play in front of Monsters University on June 21, 2013 since Paperman will play in front of Wreck-It Ralph this November. As far as the storyline, electronic artist BT is working on the score for the short, which should give you some clue as to what it's about. In an interview (watch it here) he gave some hints saying, "I'm in the middle of scoring a film for Pixar right now. It's a short for Toy Story and I'm not allowed to say the whole story, but quite literally, it's like a Toy Story rave - and I'm actually not kidding either. The toys get...

Recently, Justin Bieber introduced Shawty Mane, his rap alias, to the world, and MTV News has found his hip-hop coach.
Following Bieber's freestyle over Vado and Cam'ron's "Speaking in Tungs," many on the web accused the singer of sampling lines from another Canadian, a rapper named Tory Lanez.
"I heard [the song] on Worldstar, and I have such a fanbase in Canada that people were hitting me and asking 'Did you know that Justin Bieber took your line?' " Lanez recalled. "I kinda laughed and smirked at it. It's funny to hear someone else using my lyrics, but I didn't think it was crooked or anything."
Lanez rhymes over Lloyd Banks' "Beamer, Benz or Bentley," which was uploaded to YouTube in March 2010, and spits "Getting hella dome, put Lady Gaga on...

I have a thoroughly boring day job wherein I spend 8 hours a day sitting in front of a computer terminal entering data from health care forms. It doesn’t take a whole lot of brain power. Lucky me, we’re allowed to bring our mp3 players of choice and listen to music or whatever to keep us from slamming our foreheads into our monitors. I loaded up my iPod Nano with all the music I could stand to listen to and did my thing. The only problem was, I would zone out and get into the music and want to sing along. Not so bad for me, really, except for the fact that it’s generally frowned upon in a room full of other computer drones. They have their own shit to listen to.
