Do not listen to everyone else
zacharykieler21 April 2021
This was a good episode that actually makes you think. The term "woke" in reference to a culture is racist term. Since it's a slang term for the Black Lives Matter movement. If this show upset you so much that you go have to call it out. Maybe it's time you stop blaming everyone else for your own ideology.

Great episode

It's very telling what kind of people are upset by this episode but i loved every second of it. Mariska Hargitay's acting was superb. This is a great season so far. If only the actual law enforcement was like the SVU team.

I loved it

I have to set myself apart from the mass of bad reviews. This episode was a very good watch. Yes there may be a strong push for a political outcry, but the case itself was gripping. Definitely worth the watch imo.

I would give 0 stars if possible

I've watched SVU in its entirety and while they've always woven in current events, it's gotten to the point of ridiculousness. It's basically a woke narrative masquerading as entertainment. I'm glad to see others are sick of it as well and I will most likely stop watching it.

White Supremacy IS One Sided
Brina121524 April 2021
Look. I didn't even like this episode that much, but everyone who's so mad about the message it was portraying needs to be balanced out. Don't like the direction your show is headed? Stop watching. Tearing down the episode because you don't agree with the politics is your issue, not the show's.

And for everyone saying they didn't show both sides of this... well there are no two sides to white supremacy. That is all.

Wants change in the NYPD...But...
jstrlife16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In this episodes call back to an earlier episode, Benson arrives early to a deposition in a case of department overreach and discusses the case with the man who is suing the department. She tells him that the 2 of them want the same thing, sweeping change in the department and that he can get it by reaching out to allies like her and others in IAB on the force tired of the current climate.

Cut to later in the episode, where some not so savory tactics are used by the SVU team in an attempt to locate a woman who was kidnapped and her status is being auctioned online, up to and including murder. They track down the spouse of one of the kidnappers (she is also the sister of the 2nd kidnapper). She sends her brother an SOS message at the behest of SVU and her husband shoots him as a traitor. SVU finds the brother bleeding out and Liv calls a "bus" and then tells the perp to give up the other kidnapper or he'll bleed out in the basement. When he calls her bluff, she calls off the ambulance, all while the chief looks on in seeming approval.

So much for wanting sweeping change in the NYPD when this is how you treat suspects. Yes he was a vile sub-human piece of trash, but he is also due due process. Olivia Benson isn't judge, jure, and executioner.

Just like old times... amazing
stevendodd28 April 2021
I rarely rate things on IMDb except when something is exceptional, and this was. I feel like the last few seasons of SVU have been too predictable and quite boring, but season 22 has brought the old investigative, tense side back. I especially loved the time stamps throughout the episode as time was limited in finding Sara; brought me back to the "911" episode - one of my favourites.

While at times it can feel like the writers are trying too hard to reflect real world issues (like COVID and police brutality), it's mostly done very well, especially in this episode.

Regardless of the messages within the police brutality storyline, this episode was gripping and one of the best in this season so far. It's a shame that people can't see past things they disagree on to appreciate good television.

Whatever your views, this is what is going on in America and in the world. This episode portrayed it well.

To people claiming this episode as containing "propaganda", what are you really angry about?

Feels Like a Script for that L&O: Hate Crimes Series That Never Happened
bkkaz16 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There's only slight connection to SVU -- involving assault -- that seems tacked on from an episode that's really about hate groups, and even that angle is undeveloped. SVU has tackled the subject of hate groups before but far, far more effectively, such as the horrible episode where two racists adopt a minority baby, raise him to childhood, and then enact a monstrous scheme that shows the evil of racism. That episode also featured a terrific character played by Marcia Gay Harden, who would get a dopey send off in later, awfully written seasons. (It's amazing how much fully and richer those older episodes are compared the minimalist, scene-chewing ones now.) This episode has none of the meat of that one. The hate group members get very little screen time. Instead, there are lots of talky moments in interrogation rooms and while watching TV broadcasts, all while over-the-top music keeps trying to remind us something dramatic is supposedly going on. There's some lip service to bigotry -- one victim is Black while another uses a wheelchair -- but while SVU lately almost always has a scene where the principal characters give some speech about this or that "woke" issue, this one doesn't bother. The victims are just there to give the plot the appearance of relevance to an important issue.

Time to put this once great show to pasture
UKHerbie20 April 2021
Tackling difficult issues is a good thing on TV and this show used to do it well, showing both sides of the argument and allowing the viewers to make up their own mind.

This episode failed miserably in that, so much so that it's pretty much like watching a propaganda film based on what I assume are the writers/directors views.

In this episode the cops are corrupt, protestors are saintly and are victims or police brutality, depending on the colour of your skin you're either a victim or a perpetrator (even though you may not realise it and need training to show you the error of your ways ).

Just an appalling episode and, though I hate to say it as I was such a fan, time to close the book on this series now before it loses all of its credability.

Bad acting, political BS
cockezville18 April 2021
I loved this show but the last several years it has been a vehicle for preaching and presenting a political agenda. They sensationalize everything with very left wing agendas and I am a more left than right. There is no food for thought- black and white thinking- no gray areas to ponder anymore.

And ice T and Hargity are tired and burned out. And Peter Scovino has one emotion pissed off. They need to sink this ship or bring in a whole new crowd. Mariska just seems bored by the whole thing and has one expression. She must not love acting challenges to stay with the same part all these years.

OMG More Liberal political crap..!
k_tomb23 April 2021
This show has TRULY lost its way. Of course far left liberals will enjoy this episode. I tried to watch with an open mind, but EVERY character seems to be very liberal, and act like they did NOT act in the past. The so called "Bad Guy" was a caricature of a "B" movie bad guy. The story was almost laughable. While they tried to be profound and give a liberal story, they sank in silly acting. The Bad guy was honestly in the mold of an Austin Powers movie!! This show is on its last legs. They do not know how to do political stories, without pandering to the left and making anyone while look like either Bikers, Terrorists, or White Power people. Laughable the silly and VERY fake characters they create to stir racial tensions even more.
