The film "The Kinsey Syndrome" was released in 2008. It was written and filmed by the Director Christian J. Pinto in the USA. The film has a runtime of 2 hours 44 minutes and an estimated budget of $15,000 (estimated).
It is a documentary style film about the scientist Alfred Kinsey. Kinsey was a researcher and teacher in the USA in the 20th century. He was the first to conduct large-scale statistical surveys of human sexual behaviour. The Kinsey Report, based on this data, is considered to be one of the triggers of the Sexual Revolution, from which we still benefit today. Work like that of Alfred Kinsey led to a de-tabooing of sexual issues, an increasing tolerance and acceptance of sexual needs of the sexes as well as their sexual orientations, regardless of an institutionally or religiously legitimized one. Even today, Kinsey is celebrated in LGBTQ+ communities. He is immortalized on Chicago's Legacy Walk, an outdoor public display which celebrates LGBT history and people, and as of 2019, is one of the first fifty American "pioneers, trailblazers, and heroes" to be included in the National LGBTQ Wall of Honour at Stonewall National Monument (SNM) at the Stonewall Inn in New York City.
However, the film itself portrays the work of this pioneering scientist in a very negative light. Claims such as that Kinsey's work has led to increased sexual assault are made without any actual causal evidence. Instead, vaguely unscientific correlations are invoked.
Upon further investigation, many of the statements made in the film cannot be substantiated, and it appears to be a film that deliberately seeks to denigrate Kinsey's work. The origin of this clear direction can be explained by taking a closer look at the director and screenwriter.
Christian J. Pinto is a documentary filmmaker and founder of Adullam Films - a Christian film ministry dedicated to defending the Gospel of Jesus Christ through film and video production.
Thus, his films have a radical Christian theological orientation and are used by churches and Bible study groups for teachings on history and the Bible.
A subjective documentary about one of the most important scientists of the 20th century is therefore not to be expected from such a producer, since Kinsey's findings speak against all the rules and values that The Catholic Church has been trying to uphold for hundreds of years and still tries to radically defend today against all deviating findings from science.
