Strikes and delays have reportedly seen the budget on Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski’s Formula 1 movie race past the $300m mark.
If a new report’s accurate, then Apple Studios is in the process of spending a quite sinister amount of money on its forthcoming Formula 1 movie.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, the film doesn’t currently have an official title – the word was that it was called Apex, also the name of a 2021 Bruce Willis action flick, though that hasn’t been confirmed so far.
What it does have, though, is an absolutely enormous budget; according to Puck, as picked up by World of Reel, the spend so far has breached the $300m mark.
The distribution rights to the movie were snapped up by Apple in 2022, with the company no doubt attracted by the pairing of producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Kosinski, who’d...

Apex Legends was one of the most played games when it launched back in 2019. Thanks to an aggressive marketing campaign that had all YouTubers and streamers playing the game, EA achieved a very stable and large player base.
The game served as a response to Fortnite’s dominance, incorporating new mechanics while maintaining a Battle Royale style with increased action and a variety of weapons and abilities. Now players realize that all the things that they bought in-game have just disappeared overnight thanks to the new cross-progression system that has just been added, and EA has not made any comment about it.

The world of e-sports is moving at a fast pace, with hundreds of tournaments of games for Apex Legends, Fortnite, Valorant, and many more happening every single year. These tournaments allow gamers to shine in what they excel the best in, often for a large cash prize awaiting at the end for the winner.
Furthermore, bearing in mind how millions of people tune in to watch these tournaments as entertainment as well as how this is the only chance for gamers to express their talents, cheating is a frowned-upon practice in the field. And despite being shamed, it occurs occasionally even in the highest levels of competitions, and a similar event has happened in the Apex Legends North American Pro League Finals.

The disaster film Twister (watch it Here) was a massive success for Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment when it was released during the summer movie season in 1996. Made on a budget of $90 million, it earned almost $500 million at the global box office and ranked as the tenth highest-grossing film of all time. Quickly cashing in with a sequel would have made a lot of sense. But while there were rumors – including a memorable one that said the sequel would involve a tornado hitting a major city – a follow-up never made it into production. Until now. Universal and Amblin are reviving the Twister IP with a film called Twisters, which is set to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024. Twenty-eight years later, will it be able to replicate or surpass the success of its predecessor? We’ll have to wait and see. But for know, we’re going to...

Netflix has landed rights to the female-driven genre thriller Apex, described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, Deadline reports today.
Apex was penned by “The Purge” writer Jeremy Robbins and selected as part of 2021’s The Black List, an annual buzzy compendium of the year’s most-liked unproduced Hollywood screenplays.
The spec script logline for Apex: “When an adrenaline junkie sets out to conquer a menacing river, she discovers that nature isn’t the only thing out for blood.” In other words, one woman finds herself stalked by an Apex predator, only this time of the human variety. And it sounds like it’ll be very intense.
Deadline reports that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have created a need for original stories for studios’ development slates, which has led to a boost in spec and packaging markets. Before the strikes, “the market was not as robust...

Exclusive: While high-profile packages have been flourishing following the ends of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the spec market also looks to have some pop to it as sources tell Deadline that Netflix has landed the female-driven genre thriller Apex from scribe Jeremy Robbins. Ian Bryce and Chernin Entertainment will produce. Netflix declined comment.
The script is described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs and follows a rock climber who finds herself being hunted in the wild.
The sale comes at an interesting time in a post-strike landscape where studios see a need for new original stories to fill their development slates, and the spec and packaging markets have reaped the rewards. Prior to the WGA strike in May, the market was not as robust as reps cautioned their clients about how hard it is to sell a script with talent attached, let alone a spec on its own.

Those rumours have turned into reports, as the first details emerge regarding what Top Gun 3 could look like.
—–
Back in December there were rumours floating around that Paramount was looking to build on the success of 2022’s hugely successful Top Gun: Maverick with a sequel that would see `Tom Cruise climbing back into the cockpit of a jet fighter for a trilogy-closing movie’.
It’s a month later and those rumours have solidified into reports, suggesting that another Top Gun movie may well be the next project for Cruise once he finishes production on the eighth Mission: Impossible film.
The timing of this report is probably no accident either: Cruise has just inked a deal with Warner Bros in which star and studio have agreed a non-exclusive partnership to develop blockbuster projects and original films. Naturally enough, stories have quickly emerged suggesting that a sequel to Edge Of Tomorrow may...

Twenty-seven years after the release of the blockbuster disaster film Twister (watch it Here), Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have finally put a follow-up on the fast track to release – but they’re not calling it a sequel. Scheduled to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024, Twisters has been described as a “new chapter” in what is about to become a franchise… and during an interview with Vogue, cast member Glen Powell – who can currently be seen on the big screen in the romantic comedy Anyone but You – confirmed that the film tells a standalone story. But even without any connection to the original film, he believes that it’s something that will be able to connect to everyone around the world.
Powell told Vogue (with thanks to Deadline for sharing the text) that Twisters is “definitely not a reboot. We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one.

If you encounter Michelle Statham in Call of Duty, there’s a very high chance you’ll be Ko’d before you ever see her coming. She excels at quick-hit fights with fast TTKs, and she’s a crack sniper, too.
She’s also a 58-year-old grandma.
Statham, who goes by TacticalGramma on Twitch, has loved video games for as long as she could remember. Both her parents were gamers in the very earliest days of gaming, and she has fond memories of family nights on the Atari 2600. When she grew older, she kept gaming as a hobby while raising her family and occasionally working side jobs like bus driver and Taco Bell manager.

“I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike,” said the Oscar and Emmy winner in a statement obtained exclusively by Deadline. “I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA.”
News of the move on Davis’ part comes one day after an unconfirmed report in The Sun that Brad Pitt has paused production on his Formula One film for Apple, in solidarity with strikers, also stepping away from a title called Apex.

Filming of an upcoming blockbuster set in the world of Formula One and produced by British racing driver Lewis Hamilton has been thrown into chaos by Hollywood star actor Brad Pitt.
The 59-year-old American star is due to play a character named Sonny Hayes in the upcoming film Apex which co-stars Javier Bardem and Damson Idris, reports mirror.co.uk.
But filming has ground to a halt as Brad is showing solidarity with the Screen Actor’s Guild who voted earlier this month to go on strike alongside the Writer’s Guild of America – with the industrial action causing productions to close down on both sides of the Atlantic.
It is said the A List star’s decision to go on strike has been supported by the rest of the film crew – who will also be forced to down tools until the strike action is over.

As we reported previously regarding an unannounced cinema camera that looks like an action cam on the set of an untitled Formula 1 movie, now we are sure that this is a camera by Sony. This new 6K Cinema Line camera seems to be mounted in three spots on the race car (modified Formula 2), and remote controlled. Read on.

The concept here is pretty simple: Take what worked in Tgm (Top Gun: Maverick), and translate it to the high-octane adrenaline dose of Formula 1 racing. Cinematography-wise, that’s what the new Apex movie is all about. Apex is not the final name. The final name was not released yet. However, Brad Pitt who is the main star in the movie,...

Exclusive: Tobias Menzies was hiding in plain sight at a rally held by UK actors union Equity in support of its sister union SAG-AFTRA.
Cameras and microphones were being shoved in front of the likes of Brian Cox, Imelda Staunton, Jim Carter, Hayley Atwell, David Oyelowo, Naomie Harris and many others, but Menzies was just out of shot.
Had Menzies been wearing a bespoke suit, shirt, tie and nice polished shoes, the penny might have dropped for some in the media scrum.
He won an Emmy for his portrayal of Prince Philip in Seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix and Left Bank Pictures’ The Crown.
Then there’s Nicole Holofcener’s sharply observed — satisfyingly so — arch comedy You Hurt My Feelings, which is available on digital platforms in the U.S. and streaming on Prime Video in the U.K. from August 8.

Brad Pitt and Guy Ritchie appeared to enjoy their time on Sunday during the last day of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. The event was held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.
On what was a sunny day for typically rainy London, Pitt and Ritchie both wore shades to block the sun’s rays and to better watch the final match between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard won in an upset victory.
In adherence to the event’s encouraged dress code, both men looked smart. While Pitt opted for a simple powder-blue polo shirt, Ritchie wore a khaki suit jacket layered over a white-collared blue shirt and a black tie.

A new action 6K cinema camera was developed by the team of Top Gun: Maverick. This camera is being utilized in the forthcoming Formula 1 film, rumored to be called Apex, starring Brad Pitt. The new camera was spotted at the set, attached to a modified Formula 2 race car. Our assumption: It’s a stripped-down version of the Sony Cinema Line FR7. Brad Pitt visited the Formula 1 racecar drivers at the Silverstone race track in England on Sunday to film his new movie, Apex.
F1 shared Pitt’s visit on Instagram and posted a series of photos while the Academy Award winner was with them. In the images, Pitt is snapped with his costar Damson Idris, both wearing white fire suits and serious expressions.
The film will follow Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, as a veteran racecar driver who returns to the racetracks with his teammate, Joshua Pearce, who Idris will play.
Producers have reportedly recruited British driver Lewis Hamilton for his advice and to help give a more realistic quality to the film.
“It’s to make sure that it’s authentic and that all of you and racing fans see its authenticity and say this is believable,” Hamilton said.

Brad Pitt is getting embedded in the world of Formula One racing for his forthcoming film. The actor and producer was in England over the weekend, where he joined some F1 racers on the grid ahead of the British Grand Prix.
Pitt joined other racers at Silverstone Circuit in London on Sunday, where he was shooting scenes on location for his upcoming Formula One film.
Pitt was decked out in full racing gear and was joined by his co-star, Damson Idris — both of whom looked like professional F1 drivers as they walked out onto the grid to observe the national anthem.
While rocking his white racing jumpsuit, Pitt was all smiles as he chatted with other drivers and took time to say hi to some young fans on the track.

The search for legendary creatures may not be recognized as a legitimate science, but even the harshest critics of cryptozoology have to admit that it’s fun to imagine that there might still be a little bit of magic hidden in the modern world. From Sasquatch to the Loch Ness Monster, these mythical beasts have been inspiring stories for centuries, so it makes sense that they’d eventually show up in video games.
And with so many digital cryptids to choose from (you’d be surprised with how many games manage to sneak in a Mothman reference), we’ve decided to highlight six of the most memorable Cryptid appearances in gaming. After all, there’s nothing like a good monster hunt, and I think cryptozoology is criminally underutilized when it comes to genre storytelling – especially when it comes to videogames.

With “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” now out in theaters and James Gunn’s commitment to Marvel Studios complete, his full attention is now being turned to filling out the cast for his upcoming DC reboot “Superman: Legacy.”
Gunn is now watching audition tapes, and those in the mix for the role of Superman include Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet (“Pearl”), Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria”) and Andrew Richardson (“A Call to Spy”), sources tell TheWrap.
Additionally, sources say Emmy-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Rachel Brosnahan delivered a “strong” audition for Lois Lane, with Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”) and Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”) among those also auditioning for the part.
There’s another major role to fill as well: Lex Luthor. Sources indicate the antagonist role is labeled as “Apex” and that Gunn has been seeing Black actors for the part. In the comics, Apex Lex Luthor had a hybrid...

Aphasia is caused by brain damage, and affects an individual’s ability to communicate.

Results for the 42nd Razzie Awards are in — and if you had anything to do with “Diana: The Musical,” you might want to go back to bed.
The big, fat Broadway bomb about the Princess of Wales beamed into your living room courtesy of Netflix was this year’s big Razzie “winner,” taking home five of what the group calls its “un-coveted … tacky, gold-spray-painted statuettes.”
The streaming version of the stage musical bagged Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Jeanna de Waal), Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Director (Christopher Ashley) and Worst Screenplay. The group pointed out how richly the “Diana” script deserved the honor for “featuring some of the year’s most ridiculed dialogue and lyrics — Including rhyming ‘Camilla’ with both ‘Manila’ and ‘Godzilla.'”

Yippee-ki-yay, Bruce Willis sure has a lot to celebrate the day before the 2022 Academy Award nominees are announced.

The Razzie-nominated films are “American Siege,” “Apex,” “Midnight in the Switchgrass,” “Cosmic Sin,” “Deadlock,” “Fortress,” “Out of Death,” and “Survive the Game,” which were all part of a Half in the Bag review episode by YouTube channel, Red Letter Media.

Leading the 2022 Razzie Awards nominations roster is the Netflix version of the Broadway flop “Diana: The Musical” with nine bids. Tied with five apiece are “Karen” and “The Woman in the Window.” Each of these ill-conceived movies counts a Worst Picture nomination among its haul. Joining them in that race are the sequel “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and the sci-fi flick “Infinite.”
As usual, “winners” will be decided by Razzie members.

Respawn has revealed that they are removing the original Titanfall from digital storefronts and streaming services, and the decision has divided franchise fans who no longer know whether they should keep holding on to hope for Titanfall 3.
For those of you who missed it, Respawn recently revealed via Twitter that they have decided to discontinue sales of 2014’s Titanfall starting…err…yesterday. They will also be removing Titanfall from subscription services starting on March 1, 2022. While Titanfall‘s servers will be kept alive for the foreseeable future, this decision essentially means that Titanfall‘s seven-year run is over.
There’s a lot to talk about in regards to the decision to stop selling Titanfall and eventually remove it from streaming services, but the part of the announcement that has everyone talking at the moment is Respawn’s brief reference to Titanfall‘s “future.”
A note about Titanfall. pic.twitter.com/Ew...

Exhibitors who still believe that studios might settle on a 45-day minimum on theatrical exclusivity saw their hopes crushed by “No Time to Die.” A month after its release, United Artists debuted the title on Premium VOD at $19.99. The timing parallels Universal’s 31-day strategy for films that open over $50 million.
As anticipated, the latest James Bond immediately placed #1 on multiple charts, both those ranking by transactions and revenue (Vudu). The film remained at #4 in theaters over the weekend, with a 23 percent drop the second lowest among top 10 films. Once again, the home-viewing marketing push also appeared to benefit ticket sales.
Disney is #2 and #3 across the board, as represented by “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” ($19.99) and “Free Guy” ($5.99), respectively. Four other Disney titles, led by “Jungle Cruise” ($12.99) and “Black Widow” ($5.99), took 10 of the 30 positions on the charts. More impressive is that all but “Free Guy” now stream free for Disney + subscribers.
