Super-powered individuals may run rampant on the streets of Central City each week on The Flash, but Arrow exists in a more realistic, “grounded” corner of the DC TV universe. That may soon change, however, as IGN has learned that Oliver Queen will soon go up against his very first metahuman.
Doug Jones – perhaps known best for playing Hellboy‘s right-hand man and fellow demon fighter Abe Sapien – has joined the series as DC Comics supervillain Deathbolt. The character is the alter ego of Jake Simmons, who was first introduced in 1983 and has the power to manipulate electricity. On Arrow, he’ll be a metahuman with the ability to harness and weaponize plasma energy.
Oliver has faced off with super serum-enhanced individuals like Deathstroke and Cyrus Gold (the man who becomes Solomon Grundy) in the past, and even engaged in some fisticuffs with Barry Allen earlier this season, but this...

Two forces to be reckoned with have teamed up to bring us our first look at "It's Hell Getting Old," a horror short from director Patrick Rea that will be part of Blanc/Biehn Productions' new elevator-set anthology Hellevator Man.
Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.
The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication. The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.
In addition to a few behind-the-scenes photos from "It's Hell Getting Old," we also have the kick-off announcement for Bbp's Mindless, a mind-bending thriller that marks...

The term “Scream Queen” might immediately bring to mind Jamie Lee Curtis, the star of Halloween, Terror Train and Prom Night, but a new Scream Queen is emerging to take the lead, and we can, once again, thank the Halloween series for bringing her to our attention.
Star of Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, Danielle Harris has exploded onto the horror scene, releasing several films a year for our viewing pleasure. In honor of her new release, The Victim; the upcoming The Ghost of Goodnight Lane; and her directorial debut, Among Friends, Dread Central is honoring our Scream Queen with a list of six of her best horror roles.
1. Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2

Chicago – Chicago filmmaker Danny Rhodes has been tapped to direct his first feature film, “Released,” a thriller which has the potential to grow into a long-running horror franchise. Willow Road Entertainment and Rhodes’s new company, Rhodesclosed Productions, are planning to shoot the film in 2013. According to Rhodes, the budget will be between $750,000 and $1.3 million.
“Released” aims to subvert the iconic “Halloween” and “Friday the 13th” franchises with its female antagonist and its dash of supernatural themes evocative of the current box office champ, “The Possession.” Rhodes has previously served as writer and producer of the web series, “Bad Sides,” and has acted in a number of acclaimed indies including “Audrey the Trainwreck,” “Blackmail Boys” and “Nate & Margaret.” It was Rhodes’s rough cut of his upcoming horror short, “He Ain’t Heavy,” that garnered him the attention of producers and ultimately landed him the directing job.

As the final minutes of act two approached I felt Jeff, Who Lives at Home slipping away. Things had been okay up to that moment, but it felt like the film was reaching a turning point and it wasn't working for me.
Jeff, played by Jason Segel, was speaking with his older brother Pat (Ed Helms) as the two sit in a bathtub. Pat's life has been thrown for a bit of a loop and they are having a heart-to-heart. It's a scene like any other you've seen in so many other movies, and the dialogue wasn't moving me at all, it felt like empty words. As it turns out, this scene is the only speed bump in an otherwise great film that does a worthy job setting up a fate-based story with an ending that is one of the best I've seen in some time.

Wrath of the Crows is an Italian shot horror feature that highlights the acting talents of several horror starlettes including: Tiffany Shepis (Cyrus), Debbie Rochon (Slime City Massacre) and Tara Cardinal (I Hate L.A.). The style of the film is indefinitive and surreal as period costumes and jump cuts distort any coherent flow. This is one of the few trailers to come across the 28Dla newswire that has confused the watcher more about the film's story rather than offering insight. Apparently, there is a lot of nudity and gore. But, is there a reason to watch? Viewers can decide for themselves and the first trailer for Wrath of the Crows is below, with a release date scheduled for late in 2012.

Some times a movie comes around that is just so dark you cant help but watch it with a light on, snuggled up with your favorite pillow, and prepare yourself for the nightmares that will come. I love it when that happens. Cyrus follows the story of serial killer Cyrus, as told to reporter Maria, played by Danielle Harris, by Emmett, played by Lance Henriksen. Cyrus starts his murderous ways when he catches his wife cheating, and offs the pair,…...

Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer screened last year at Dark Carnival Film Fest when I was there but I didn’t get a chance to see the entire movie until I got my hands on the DVD. What a cool and dark look at how one might become a serial killer.
The movie opens up with news reporter Maria (Danielle Harris) and her camera man meeting up with the mysterious Emmett (Lance Henriksen), an old farmer type who begins telling them the story of his friend Cyrus (Brian Krause). Emmett becomes the narrator of the movie as we all follow along. Then the story begins to show us the life of Cyrus and possibly why he became this monster up until the very end where our “news team” comes face to face with the man himself.
Director and writer Mark Vadik has put together a very dark and really cool story here.

Aka: Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer
2010 - 87 mins. - Not Rated
D: Mark Vadik
C: Brian Krause, Danielle Harris, Lance Henriksen, Doug Jones, Rae Dawn Chong, Kim Rhodes, Patricia Belcher, Shawna Waldron, Tiffany Shepis
A cheesy tabloid journalist gets in over her head while investigating the disappearance of over one hundred college students in a small rural town when she comes across a man who claims to know what happened.
Cyrus gets off to a rocky start, because some of the cast comes off caricature ish in the film's introductory scenes which leaves a sour taste over the rest of the film's proceedings. Cyrus does get better as it goes along, especially when Brian Krause comes into the picture. Krause has always been a solid addition to any film that he has been involved in. With Cyrus, Krause turns in a riveting performance. Unfortunately, the script for Cyrus isn't as riveting as Krause's performance.

For eight years Brian Krause was known to genre fans as Leo Wyatt from the WB series “Charmed.” While his portrayal of a good-natured whitelighter endeared him to millions worldwide, his latest performance in Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer is going to come as quite a shock. Krause has definitely shed his "good guy" personality in order to portray the demented “County Line Cannibal” who terrorizes a small town for decades.
Recently Dread Central had the opportunity to talk with Krause about what attracted him to Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer (review here), the difficulties he personally faced playing such a disturbed character, and what fans can expect next from the always busy actor.

In Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, we are introduced to one of the more sinister and depraved sociopaths of the modern horror age. The mastermind behind the titular lunatic is writer/director Mark Vadik, who is about to see all of his hard work over the last few years come to fruition.
The good people at Anchor Bay Entertainment are set to release Cyrus, Vadik’s disturbing exploration into the world of a modern serial killer, on this Tuesday, June 28th.
Recently Dread Central had the opportunity to talk with Vadik to find out what inspired him to create Cyrus, why he thinks people will always be fascinated by serial killers and if he has any future plans for “The County Line Cannibal.”

Anchor Bay Entertainment has pushed back the release for their horror biopic Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer,. The final release date for this title is June 28th, on DVD and video-on-demand. In only a few days, fan can get their hands on one of the more grisly independent features from writer and director Mark Vadik (Hell Town). The DVD artwork is left and Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer retraces the fictional misdeeds of "The County Line Cannibal," who is based on one or several of the 30-50 serial killers now operating in the United States (Vadik). That digression aside, reporter Maria (Danielle Harris) gets a little to close to her story and the results are tragic. More details on this release are below.

Anchor Bay will release the murderous thriller film Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, starring scream queen Danielle Harris (Hatchet 2), on DVD on June 14.
Brian Krause gets his point across to Danielle Harris in the serial killer thriller Cyrus.
Reportedly inspired by true stories, the slasher horror movie stars Harris as Maria, the host of the exploitive tabloid TV show Last Steps. Investigating a rash of mysterious disappearances in a small Midwestern town, Maria meets a local named Emmett (Lance Henriksen, the Alien films) who tells her a tale of a man named Cyrus (Brian Krause, TV’s Charmed), also known as “The County Line Cannibal.” Is Cyrus only legend, or is he all too real and related to the town’s most recent disappearances…?
Written and directed by Mark Vadik, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer also stars Doug Jones (Legion), Rae Dawn Chong (Commando) and straight-to-dvd diva Tiffany Shepis...

I've been following Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer since November of last year and I've seen it screen at several really cool film festivals, most recently at HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis. The new DVD release date has been changed to June 28th and we also have the new artwork for you to gaze at.
Synopsis:
Cyrus stars Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 & 5, Rob Zombie’s Halloween 1 & 2, Hatchet 2) as Maria, host of a lurid tabloid show called “Last Steps.” With her cameraman Tom in tow, Maria investigates a series of unexplained disappearances in a small Midwestern county. The story leads them to the isolated town of Arkham Heights, where they find themselves interviewing Emmett (Lance Henriksen, Near Dark, The Terminator, Aliens), who possesses an all-too intimate knowledge of the details of "The County Line Cannibal" – Cyrus (Brian Krause, Charmed, Sleepwalkers). Danielle Harris is one busy girl these days. With so many cool projects she still made time for little ol me and afterwards asking me to always keep my distance (jk). What a better way to celebrate "Women in Horror Month" than a tribute to our favorite scream queen! According to Wikipedia a scream queen is an actress who has become associated with horror films, either through an appearance in a notable entry as a frequent victim or through constant appearances as the protagonist. Who could wear the heavy crown of such a broad definition? To be the Queen her majesty must embrace all expectations. Well, we think we’ve found her and after a life time career of horror, All Hail Danielle Harris!
The scream queen. Well, we all know she has to at least have a set of lungs on her but what else? Multiple rolls in horror films is a must and a little skin, nudity or sex is a plus. Oh, and she’s got to be drop dead gorgeous to boot! She can fall victim to...

Check out my latest "Versus" where Tanya Newbould talks about her role, working with the rest of the cast, a fun story or two and what's up next for her.

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.

Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer is another in the run of forgettable "true story" serial killer movies that keep being produced in Low Budget Horror world. A documentary crew, consisting of one female journalist and her cameraman, show up at the house of an old man looking for a scoop on some legendary, yet completely obscure murderer. The old guy, played by respected genre veteran Lance Henriksen, seems to know a hell of a lot about this serial killer, names his as a local man called Cyrus, and after some hesitation, begins telling the story of Cyrus's life in surprisingly intimate detail. The story is, of course, carried out on screen with Brian Krause (yep, it's that guy from Charmed!) as Cyrus.

With such recent releases as Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield and the [Rec] films, documentary-style horror is more popular than ever, and Cyrus: Mind Of A Serial Killer is one of the latest entries in the subgenre. Written and directed by Mark Vadik (and no relation to the other Cyrus currently playing theaters), the movie centers on a small, independent news crew investigating a series of unexplained disappearances in the isolated Midwestern county of Arkham Heights.

The Gorezone Internation Film Festival begins October 2nd and Cyrus will premiere with Corey Haim's last film also showing. Cyrus is a suitable horror production for Gorezone. In the film a rural farmer turns into a multiple murderer when he finds his wife cheating. This sounds too familiar, minus the murderer part. In Haim's New Terminal Hotel things are dark and foreboding as a writer seeks inspiration. Two worthy entries at the festival here. Hosting are Emily Booth and Christa Campbell. Have a read of the Cyrus plotline here. Details on New Terminal Hotel and the Gorezone Film Festival are below.
A plot summary and overview of Cyrus here:
"A small independent news crew, made up of reporter Maria and her camera man Tom, investigates a series of unexplained disappearances in a small Midwestern county. The story leads them to the isolated town of Arkham Heights, where they find themselves interviewing Emmett,...
