“Jesus, Jesus help me,” sings Bono, front man of the classic Irish rock band U2. “I’m alone in this world, and a fucked up world it is too.” Even though U2 fans had long grown used to Bono’s mixture of Christian faith and endless ennui by the time the band released the techno-infused album Pop in 1997, the frankness displayed in the song “Wake Up Dead Man” shocked and dismayed listeners.
Alongside the playful dance track “Discothèque” and sultry numbers such as “The Playboy Mansion” and “If You Wear That Red Dress,” “Wake Up Dead Man” had a raw honesty that U2 hadn’t shown since their anthemic hit records The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree. Since 1991’s Achtung Baby, U2 had abandoned their earnest approach for postmodern games that commented upon the Death of God by embracing and satirizing secular capitalism. Yet with “Wake Up Dead Man,...

Spanish super-indie production-sales companies are stepping back in time with vigor, building on opportunities opened up by streamers’ growing market flexibility to retain IP and sell territory-by-territory.
Prioritizing bottom lines over market share, global platforms are ever more splitting rights and investing less in single titles. As budgets reduce, projects’ producers are forced to court ever more partners.
That often means partnering on productions. “We accustomed customers to enjoying high-quality series with large budgets. In the new context, it is increasingly difficult to continue in this vein if you don’t partner,” says Onza’s Carlos Garde.
Aiding this, Spain’s TV drama sector is still living a Golden Age. “Spanish TV fiction presence is on the rise, both on platforms and on international pay TV and free-to-air channels,” argues Atresmedia’s José Antonio Salso, who is moving buzz title “Nights in Tefía” at MipTV.

Over four months after Depeche Mode announced the impending arrival of their new album Memento Mori, the Rock Hall-inducted band have finally shared the LP’s first single “Ghosts Again.”
The now-duo (following the death of Andy Fletcher) paired the synth-rock track with a video directed by longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn, who also photographed the Memento Mori album cover; Corbijn has helmed over 20 Depeche Mode videos over the past 35 years, including the visuals for “Policy of Truth,” “I Feel You” and “Never Let Me Down Again.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 Episode 9 “Memento Mori.”] If you thought the cliffhanger of the midseason finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution was cruel, then the one for the penultimate episode is the equivalent of the UnSub who gave his victims the choice between paralysis and death. Picking up where “Forget Me Knots” left off, Rossi (Joe Mantegna) shows Elias Voit’s (Zach Gilford) wife, Sydney (Kiele Sanchez), the hardware store photo. Voit then calls her, having gotten an alert on his phone that someone’s at their house, and she asks about the photo. When he hears Rossi’s name, he remembers reading his book, Deviance (as seen in his flashbacks), and spins a tail about quitting his job because he discovered something that could get them in trouble. Sydney follows his instructions to get Rossi out, and the profiler leaves, but not before telling her he has questions for her husband.

Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan has turned in a menacing new cover of the Raveonettes’ “Chains.”
Gahan crafted the version with frequent Depeche Mode collaborator, Kurt Uenala. While the Raveonettes’ original featured a striking clash of buzzsaw guitars and clattering percussion, Gahan and Uenala give the song an electronic and industrial edge without sacrificing the song’s sense of heightened anxiety.
On Facebook, the Raveonettes’ Sune Rose Wagner celebrated the new rendition, writing, “People always measure success in terms of album sales, chart positions, etc but for me success was...
