The first names of the films two 'villans', Andrew Barker and Peter Marshall, are the middle names of the films original producers - Gene Peter Fallaize, and Nathan Andrew Spencer.
Ben Fallaize, younger brother of producer Gene Fallaize, was originally cast in the role of Jake Truman, but had to turn down the role due to other commitments.
The ambigram used in the film is a real working ambigram, designed especially for the production by artist John Langdon, who designed the ambigrams used in Dan Brown's Angels & Demons (2009) and The Da Vinci Code (2006). The lead character of Brown's books and movies was named Robert Langdon in homage to the artist.
Nightingale island - the island that Jake's map leads to - is a fictional island set in the Pacific ocean, however, the island depicted on the map is a mixture of two real islands in the pacific, Ofu and Olosega. All the actual beach scenes were shot on location on Herm Island, in the Channel Islands.
