Great for family but the kids are annoying
hazard11110 February 2023
The art design here is amazing. The texture of the hair? Masterpiece. The story as is could've been a movie honestly as most of the 10 episode 80% of them the kids are just being brats while the dad gets exasperated and yet the feeling of consequence doesn't show itself until the later episodes. Pretty standard tbh.

It's an overall good family friendly drama that focuses on the dad and kids. The dad loves his kids. The kids lover their father. They just have a lack of communication due to the nature of the dad being a bounty hunter as per title. Happy ending with a hook for possible 2nd season.

IF you hate watching kids do their own thing without regard for consequence and act like they know what they're doing because nothing "bad" truly happens then this show isn't for you.

An excellent sci-fi adventure for Kids
pfne10 February 2023
Being an adult of considerable years... I thoroughly enjoyed this cartoon.

The animation is absolutely amazing at times. It looks and moves as good as a high budget movie, some of the space scenes are beautifully done. The flashbacks in a different style really add to the overall.

The voice work is all excellent and really makes the characters come alive.

The story is interesting and drives the show from point to point adequately.

The soundtrack is Outstanding.. some amazing tunes and their use is absolutely excellent.

Now.. the downsides. If I was being harsh, I could point out the predictable nature and the overused family dramas of kids not liking their dad or the kids being a bit brattish etc.

BUT I can forgive the few minor points as the rest of the show is so so good.

I really hope for second season where they can step away a little from the typical kid dramas etc and get further into the space exploration.

Highly recommended for kids that like adventurous sci-fi and recommended for adults alike.

The writers have gone insane (Reviews of both seasons!)
prayagsuthar25 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
________________________________________ My review after Season 1:

This show is something that you can tell the kids will enjoy. The premise seems a bit awkward, but midway through Season 1 things get thrilling! The 3D animation is ASTOUNDING, but the dialogue and voice acting is a bit overdone, and feels poorly executed and corny. I doubt younger kids would have the same gripes, of course.

This show also has a surprising amount of violence, considering that it's a kids' show. It features gambling, use of weapons like guns, threats of shooting people, electrocution, etc., and it shows up so often that I'm astonished this is rated TV-Y7. At the same time, it also delves into a lot of heavy topics-so far, the most prominent one was in Episodes 5 and 6, which depict animal exploitation and trafficking!

Basically, the story's quite good, but the material can be a lot. It's still likely to be a thrilling and exciting watch for kids.

________________________________________ My review after S2E5:

Wh- guh- huH?!?!!!?!? *blacks out*

The first two episodes of the season gave me the impression that it was gonna be a repeat of Season 1's formula. And then stuff hit the fan, oH mY GoD---!

Just like last season, the dialogue is cringe, the voice acting is embarrassing, the pacing and writing quality are inconsistent, and the animation's not top-tier. We see some familiar characters from last season, and we get to see more underage gambling and outright violence than should be allowed in a kids' show. (Actually, we even get to see the kids' mom being DRUNK!)

What's different though, is what variety of madness the story writers put in this time. They must have gotten REALLY giddy after the show got greenlighted for a second season, because they just went ALL out.

Stuff gets....interesting, after Episode 3 starts! To list off all the ridiculous things one might witness in this show: they thinly veil an offensive sexual comment using an alien language; there's a torture dungeon where a blob man gets literally stabbed with knives; there's an entire planet that's just ancient Africa with magic rocks; we get to see the titular bounty hunter in a skimpy outfit, forced to excessively shake his rear end to the camera (whose great idea was it to put that in a kids' show??? They did it too many times, ugh!!!); I think the most memorable thing is that there's a slimefaced Elvis tiger with abrasive hair who's introduced by an entourage of sexy dancer cheetahs.

...Yeah, I think I've said enough to make the point that the story writers have just lost all their screws this season. The people who designed the characters definitely got to...flex their creativity, as well. And honestly, I think that's probably the only reason I'm still sticking to finishing this season-I'm only here to see what madness unfolds next.

The story's going in all different directions and keeps getting dragged out episode after episode, which is irritating. There's three entire plots happening at the same time, which probably explains the longer runtime of each episode; but it also makes it harder to follow along with what's going on. And I imagine that any of the sequences that aren't about Lisa and Sean are going to fly straight over younger viewers' heads, and they're probably going to be bored and confused by all the scenes of just the adults.

But despite that, and after the boring first two episodes, this show's quite a sight to see, and I think it's worth the watch just for that! Season 1 had literal slavery, and I thought that was wild for a kids' show. I have been proven wrong. Just the first half of this season has, like, 10 times the wildness (see above)!!! And the inclusion of an entire planet that's literally just Africa absolutely threw me off, but it's such a new idea in TV shows that I can't help but applaud it! This show is bringing new exposure to types of people and ways of thinking that have never graced TV screens in this way before, and I'm here for it!

So, overall, is this show good? Not really to be honest, if we're talking in objective terms. But you should still watch it, because sometimes good entertainment is just outright madness.

________________________________________ My new review after finishing Season 2:

Something I noticed about many of the reviews for this series is that a lot of people find the kids to be really annoying. That's a very, VERY fair point, because OH GOD they have no sense of self-preservation; and all the adults in the series really do not try hard enough to keep them safe! I blame the lack of self-preservation on the flat, disjointed storytelling.

The show's still all over the place. A lot of the conflicts were addressed more smoothly than I expected, and there were things like awkward father-and-son-in-law conversations in the thick of fighting that just felt tacked on and completely didn't land. There's a fight scene between Terry and the creepy Elvis tiger that was just flat-out boring, and the dialogue leading up to that scene was just the most insipid I've ever heard.

The ending was a painful watch, too. There are WAYYY too many beheadings, though at least they were of robots; and there was SO MUCH mass murder, accented by explosion graphics so cheap that I could TELL how cheap they were. The ending shows some similarity with Season 1 as well, in that the villain was the CEO of the evil space corporation, and she was a lizard person, and she's defeated via a brutal murder. She gets SLICED IN TWO, for heck's sake, and the audience has to watch her severed torso slide off!!! This sort of stuff should NOT be in a kids' show, kids would be TERRIFIED of this!!!

I do not want to watch Season 3. I can't believe they even alluded to a Season 3 in the first place. I'm reducing my review from a 7-star to a 6-star.

My dad the bounty hunter is worth your time
nathanjmuller11 February 2023
The short runtime and very good CGI along with a well worn story, helps this show tremendously. The kids are a bit on the extra side, really pushing the boundaries on what parents allow.

The action scenes are well done, the characters are well fleshed out except Vax, (maybe a season 2?)

As a father myself, I could understand where the titular character was going through and also sometimes mistakenly thinking that making money for your family will make up for the feelings of guilt not being around as much.

I would recommend this to parents and the family, a bit violent towards the latter part, but can be done away by looking at the message they're trying to convey.

Making time with your family, being honest with them and always means for than providing for them.

Great Show For The Kids
laronyancey12 February 2023
My wife found this show and we decided to watch it with our daughter. With so many shows that have gore and adult themes aimed at kids this was a welcome change.

The voice acting is superb and it took me awhile to recognize some of the voice actors even though I follow them in other shows.

The music is amazing with some throwbacks to late 80s and 90s hip-hop.

The plot us solid too with sci-fi themes great for introducing kids to similar shows. If you're looking for a way to introduce your kids to science fiction without all the extra fluff, this is it! A great watch for adults and kids.

Will definitely watch again.

Loved it, I think you will too!
justdestinib10 February 2023
The storyline is actually pretty good and entertaining. I put it on out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised. At first, I thought they were pushing it not allowing it to be just a movie. After completing the season, I now believe this would be a delight as a series. I love sci-fi and even though it's geared towards children, it really is a family show. The main characters JUST SO HAPPEN to be African American, but they don't make the show about that. That is refreshing to see!

The series is not slow paced and predictable as some kids shows are. I will say as a parent, these kids will annoy you a bit because THEY DONT LISTEN. But it's necessary to push the storyline forward. They grow on you as the season comes to an end though.

They aren't preachy so, you will have to explain that violence and misbehaving in real life have consequences. The things happening in the show are for entertainment purposes only! They don't sugar coat it because it's a kids show! Which makes it awesome sci-fi watching. I'd suggest it for kids 7 and up! When they fight, they FIGHT!

The graphics are movie quality. The storyline doesn't have any holes in it as far as season 1. There are no unanswered questions about anything. My only complaint is, I feel like the father doesn't react in a realistic way when the kids adamantly don't listen. Again, I think it's to push the storyline forward. If you watch bobs burgers he has very much so a "BOB" response! He never actually reprimands them for constantly undermining him, even though it puts them in serious danger. Other than that, I cannot wait for season 2. Netflix did a good job with this one!

Absolutely loved it
sarahly-8828013 February 2023
This show is great. Though the plot was predictable at times I still found each episode interesting to watch and binged the whole series with my daughter.

The show is about the kids stowing away and making their dads job harder.

Being a parent that works from home I thought this was a great representation of what it looks like when you try to work while your kids are around. I'll admit his kids did not listen but put kids that age in space and I'm sure it would look a lot like this if space actually did consist of cute little cartoon characters.

Im happy to see a POC piece that isn't about racism or being different because of something semi related to skin or something around that topic but not directly that topic.

Cool father but annoying kids
Hammer-Rocks11 February 2023
This review is from an adult point of view.

The series looks promising. It has an interesting storyline which happens to include outer space. It's filed with spacecrafts, an AI sidekick, new technology, gadgets, aliens and robots. What's not to like?

Plus it's endowed with fantastic CGI, I was expecting this to be entertaining. But after the 3rd episode, I found the two kids incredibly Annoying, with a capital "A".

Putting aside the kids for the moment, this could be a great series. The CGI is first rate. The look & feel gives me the same vibe as "Lightyear". The quality of the CGI of this series will give Pixar a run for their money

The storyline is also interesting, and due to its setting, they (writers) can go nuts with the storyline. Exposing us to as far as the creators' imagination can go. Filling us with new worlds and characters to their hearts' content.

But those kids, were not likeable at all. They came across as stubborn, undisciplined, and lacking total respect for the father (i.e. They don't listen). And considering the daughter is supposed to be somewhat of a genius with street smarts, ends up acting extremely dumb in many ways. My only hope is, as the series progresses, they (kids) will become more likeable. But after 3 episodes, not looking good so far.

VERDICT: It's a good watch, just ignore the two brats..., err, I meant, kids. Younger audiences will love it.

Highly Enjoyable
tinkkytone26 November 2023
I watched this with the family and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Dad the Bounty Hunter is quick witted and quite humorous. The 3D-style animation works well and my hats off to the designers. I often found myself amazed by the detail paid to the characters' hair. Just check out the finely laid baby hairs and the jerry curl on an alien tiger if you don't believe me! The voice acting is also a real highlight. Voice acting doesn't get the recognition it should, but a gorgeous animation can fall flat if the voice acting is subpar. Everyone of the cast does a great job and really sells their part and the comedy. This is great for kids and/or adult fans of animation because cartoons aren't just for kids. Definitely recommend.

Great family viewing fun!
studio-6932810 March 2023
I just finished watching with my 7 yr old daughter.

She actually cried in the last episode and it tugged on my heartstrings too. That's the most fun I have had watching a series with her that felt like it was equally for both adults & kids. Fun and engaging story, AMAZING character design & style, great staging and just the right amount of Starwars homage but still managing to invent something totally new.

Few complaints about the voice acting for the kids which i agree with. The tone of the voice for the daughter lacked appeal and made her too bratty. Rest of the voices were great though.

Having worked in series myself people have to realize what an achievement this series is in a tight time frame and limited resources. The team have clearly poured their heart n soul into this one.

Love This
jrhayes-6154718 February 2023
This series was fun and enjoyable to watch. The storyline is consistent and kept my interest the entire show. The characters for myself were easy to get into, very relatable, and if you think from a young kids point of view and how kids think and act, they are not annoying as some reviews have stated, they are just being kids. Kids that want their parents attention, kids that want to explore. Plus it's a animated series and it states fantasy haha, I think that's how kids would act.

I loved the series. I hope there is a season 2. Definitely worth watching. I will definitely recommend to my friends and family. Will watch again.

A bunch o fun (for adults too) !
kbqdyvhf25 April 2023
The plot is not something new, but it shines through fabulous CGI, animations, good storytelling, fun characters and lots of overall good vibe. Expect something entertaining for both kids and adults. Me and my gf watched it in two days and got hooked from the first episode.

Some scenes are silly but intentionally so. After all, it is something you would watch with your kids. Nothing that distracts you from the plot though.

Bonus: there are easygoing plot twists that you wouldn't expect from this genre necessarily.

Overall a pretty good experience!

Can't understand the really bad reviews. It's definitely worth a try!

Horrible kids
grayabi-7390013 February 2023
I tried to enjoy it, which I was at first. If it was centered more around the dad it could have been enjoyable but it chose to focus on the kids. Which wouldn't be a bad thing if they weren't annoying, especially the older daughter. She insults her dad and disobeys him. All the while getting in trouble it seems.

You wouldn't raise your kids to be this way. Little kids will watch this and think this is the cool way to act(already happens). Also it is blaming the dad for working hard to provide for his family.

Though you would think with his job he would be way richer than he is. So that doesn't make sense.

Excellent show for kids and adults!
nahood-3387727 August 2023
I loved this show and watched both season 1 and 2 with my kids. We all loved it. The characters were full of depth, and there was enough intrigue to keep the suspense up. The music is also incredible with everything from run the jewels to beastie boys. The characters of the dad and mom and kids are awesome, and well rounded. The relationships are also complex, across the board as family Relationships usually are. The show does carry a lesson that not everything has to be perfect amd no one is beyond resemption. Family is family, and no matter how big of a problem things are in our Monday, things have a way of working themselves out. I recommend this show to anyone.

I think I loved this more than the kids
getnkosi1 September 2023
My son watched season 1 over and over and over again... He saw season 2 was out and blew his mind. So happy it didn't take too long for a new season. It's nice to have a show to watch together and we all enjoy. The animation is great, we love all the vibrant colors. The jokes are funny, the kids understands them and I even laugh out loud at some parts. The action is top notch. Some of the best fight scenes since across the spiderverse or TMNT mutant mayhem. Easy to watch the entire season in one action packed weekend. I only wish I could find some action figures of these characters, including the grandmother.

Fun watch!
randle-1331 October 2023
I will start off by saying that I did find the daughter, Lisa, a bit extra. I wasn't a fan of her insubordination. However, in MOST kid films/cartoons where it involves some sort of "spy" / "hero" activities the children are overzealous - they are the protagonist after all it is a KID show. I don't know why some of the other reviewers are making such a big deal out of this as if we haven't seen this type of activity from child protagonist before.

With that being said I thought the show was fantastic, it was funny, interesting, the animation in my opinion was great, it was modern and kept me glued. I enjoyed season 2 more than season 1, although it did have a lot of parallels to Black Panther. Over I really enjoyed it!

Could be better
ajhoward-5703713 February 2023
I give the show a solid right in the middle 5 star score. The graphics are extremely well done from space, aliens, spaceships and so on, episodes are fairly short around 30 minutes making it easier to watch. It's an alright show but it would have been so, so much better if they wrote the characters differently. For some reason recently I've been seeing alot of shows with characters ppl do not like. The kids are overwhelmingly annoying, bratty, don't listen. Making it extremely hard to like them. If they changed that and how the made the Dad like he was an idiot I'd rate it alot higher. Overall kids will probably really enjoy this but as an adult it's kind of hard to watch.

The future of kids television.
morganrollins6 March 2023
I honestly thought this was a movie. Honestly... it looks like a feature film for the theaters, from the music to the action to the story. Netflix hit this one out of the park! The character and background design is awesome, the casting is perfect. I can't think of one bad thing about it. Yes it is for kids, but it is enjoyable for me as well. I truly believe this is going to be the gold standard for kids tv shows in the future. I don't think any kids shows will match this in the near future... I will be pleasantly surprised if I am wrong. Anyone who says they don't like it, must be looking at it as an adult. Your kids will love it.

Sean's and Lisa's Alien Family History in Season 2
ppaul-5243616 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Since the season 1 finale Tess is revealed to be an alien who is on the run. Then she met Terry who happens to be a inter galactic bounty hunter; until he goes AWOL and the two of them fall in love with each other. Then she gives birth of her half-alien children Sean and Lisa who want to have normal human life on earth.

Today season 2 is out on Netflix and this is the truth about Tess's alien origin of why she is most wanted from her own kind in the first place. With new friends along the way and old enemies as well.

Tess should make amends of old families wounds of what she did in the first place.

Great sci-fi but the kids are very badly trained
petitensassy6 March 2024
I am enjoying this series and presently watching season 2 on Netflix. I love sci-fi and the different places featured in outer space is amazing but the kids omg the kids are spoilt, don't listen and think they know it all really makes it impossible for me to truly enjoy. Maybe that's the way kids behave these days not sure but it makes it very annoying to enjoy the show. I love that the family is all in on the space adventure. I love bobbly in season 2 he is funny and does know what he is doing if given a chance by everyone. He is so gooey and funny please kids have respect for your elders and bobbly as he is an adult though he isn't human.

will there be a Season 3 in 2024 ?
derekrod12 February 2024
So I watched the Entire Seasons of this CG Netflix series, It's an Awesome Kid-friendly also for Adults to enjoy including me to watch with there Awesome voice actors doing there roles back in 2023. Including the stories in it to very entertaining.

I hope the Netflix company can make a Season 3 of this sometime this Year in 2024, with new characters and maybe new voice actors in it, like the voices I wanted to hear their voices again are Mae Whitman, David kaye, Travis Willingham., or even Kimberly Brookes.

Finally, I hope this is not going to be only 2 seasons, I like it better when this has 3 Seasons now that will be successful in 2024 for an Awesome CG kids series of all time for Netflix in 2024 !

Horrible
khanimran-j14 February 2023
The only thing good about the show was trailer. Main protagonist are 2 very irritating and extremely loud kids. Me and kids tried really hard to watch it, but gave up. I know a animated show is pathetic when the kids prefer going to bed than actually watching that show.

The show revolves around 2 kids and a bounty hunter father and all that happens is the kids, keep doing really really stupid things and almost get themselves and their father killed.

And they don't learn anything and just keep doing more stupid things and all the time they are loud.

Honestly, I hate shows/movie with over loads of morals , but this made me feel like if I let the kids watch it for too long, they will forgot that action have consequences and human's can actually learn. Imagine dumb and dumber but not funny and extremely loud.

Nothing to see here!
twita-650769 February 2023
This story has been told 1,000 times and this is the worst. Fishing is more entertaining than this series. Separated dad takes stowaway kids to work and all hell breaks loose? The characters are flat, boring and stereotypical. Tough mom, stupid dad, smart older daughter and of course, the idiot little brother; runs like an episode of "Blacked", but not as funny. Even in animation Black men are depicted as dumb asses. It felt like they were making the dialogue up as they went along. Really wanted to like this series, but I can not in good conscience recommend this series to anyone over 3 years old.

Disgrace In Space 😡
a34trgv114 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely give out 1 star reviews because I don't go out of my way to watch bottom of the barrel shows and movies. My Dad The Bounty Hunter falls face first into the bottom of the barrel. This show is so bad, not even the passable at best animation was able to save it from the lowest score I could give on this sight.

Created by Everett Downing Jr. And Patrick Harpin, this show follows 2 kids discovering their father is an intergalactic bounty hunter and they go on space adventures. I'd normally go into how each episode plays out, but I refuse to watch the rest of the show because episode 1 was AWFUL! By Yoda's pointy ears, this is among the worst first impressions I've ever seen! The show starts off on the wrong note immediately as we're placed into the middle of a chase scene as opposed to being introduced to this world from the kids' perspective. I mean, for a show called "My Dad The Bounty Hunter," you'd think this story starts with the kids telling some friends or the class about their Dad's job as a bounty hunter. Even if they did, that wouldn't change how sluggishly paced the show is. This is such a slow moving show with the chase scene in the beginning not having the intensity or speed of a typical chase scene. The episode also takes way too long for the kids to find out their Dad's a bounty hunter. And because there'd be no show if he took them home immediately after he caught them, he begrudgingly takes them slong for the ride. In addition to having atrocious pacing, the humor sucks harder than vacuum in a stove pipe. The jokes range from cringy, eye rolling to just plain frustrating because of how poorly they're set up and executed. If this is how a standard episode is structured, I'd be bald, naked and completely insane by the last episode because I can NOT be sitting on the couch bored out of my mind for almost 5 HOURS!

If I can describe this cast of characters in one word, it would be hatable. These are all some hatable characters and I can't for the life of me understand what the creators were going for. Starting with our title character, Terry, guess what? He's another incompetent cartoon father! He doesn't have a clue why his kids are such brats, why his son is so stressed out or how to properly spend time with them. All he does is think about the future he wants with his kids rather than focusing on the present. If that's the point, it's handled very poorly because I absolutely cannot stand him. His kids, Lisa and Sean, are some of the brattiest, stupidest and annoying kids I've ever seen. They never assume their Dad has their best interests nor to they act like good kids. Lisa's a straight up hustler and a thief and Sean is just a disobedient and annoying kid. Their Mom, Tess, isn't much better as she tries to be the voice of reason for Terry, but because he's so thick headed, her purpose is superfluous.

The voice acting is honestly pretty bad and it's once again unfortunate because I know they're trying their best. Laz Alonso wasn't as sly or caring as Terry as I would've hoped. Priah Ferguson was very stilted in her performance as Lisa, as she sounded less sneaky and clever, and more awkward and unenthusiastic. Jecobi Swain never sounded right as Sean, as he sounded very awakward and reserved. What little Yvonne Orji had to work with as Tess, it wasn't enough to do her justice.

Visually, the animation is alright, but still lacking in significant visual flare. France based company, Dwarf Animation Studios, providing the animation and they did alright for the most part. The designs of the characters are very natural and unique with the humans having different body types, unique hair styles and contemporary clothing. I also like the design of the aliens such as the liquid fugitive and the space angler creature. The character animation itself is...a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes it looks find like when the characters are walking or having a conversation. But when they try to move real fast it's not snappy or clean. The lack of mass on the characters is also evident, which would work fine in space, but not on Earth or in the ship where hravity brings you down. It's not bad animation, but it's not above passable either.

This was so bad it makes the Star Wars Holiday Special look like The Empire Strikes Back. My Dad The Bounty Hunter is about as low as I've seen Netflix get with their animation division. The writing is atrocious, the characters are hatable, the voice acting is bad and the passable animation doesn't even come close to giving it an extra point. There really is nothing redeemable about this cartoon, and as such it deserves the worst fate to be bestowed on a show this bad: to be ignored and forgotten. Do NOT watch My Dad The Bounty Hunter, not even out of small curiosity. Watch Kid Cosmic instead, as it its infinitely better and much more worth your time than this cartoon -.-
