In the last arc, "Clone Wars" gave us a look at the marauders' scene in the war; this time, they show us the indigenous life, whose lives are disrupted by the war. That's an interesting perspective to look from, and even though this is only one half of a two-part arc, it still makes for a lot of good moments. The stakes in the episode aren't as high as they try to make them, given that we know what happens to certain characters, but the storyline is entertaining. The opening action sequence is awesome, and delivers some of the best action in the show thus far. Aayla Secura is nice addition to the show, and Ahsoka continues to her learning period, adding some nice development to that character, who does seem to come across as the show's audience character.

The Engoodening of Ahsoka Tano
docbell-030923 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
When she made her debut in The Clone Wars movie, Ahsoka was one of the most hated characters in the Star Wars galaxy. Now, she's one of the most beloved and even made appearances on another show, The Mandalorian.
Why is this character so beloved nowadays? Look no further than the episode "Jedi Crash", where her character rerailment from "reckless brat" to "brave, yet flawed padawan hero" began.
During a first half involving a botched evacuation of a Venator-class vessel during a losing fleet battle, Anakin Skywalker is critically injured after preventing an explosion from killing his padawan Ahsoka and fellow Jedi Aayla Secura. After they crash land on a forest planet populated by lemur-like aliens, Ahsoka reluctantly agrees to find someone who can heal their wounded friend.
The episode is very much a survival-based story, with the characters crashing on a foreign planet and having to band together to survive. It's also a story about Ahsoka learning that over-attachment leads to the dark side, letting go of her urge to stay with Anakin for the greater good, and this is the moment when Ahsoka began her journey to being a better character. Through Aayla telling a story about her old master, Ahsoka learns that greed and fear of loss are the roots that lead to the tree of evil, and that ignoring such fears will ultimately lead to things becoming better in the end.
Of course, the Lemur-like race turn out to be pacifists and mostly want nothing to do with the Jedi, setting in motion the next episode "Defenders of Peace" where the Clone War arrives at the colonists' doorstep and the now-healed Anakin alongside Ahsoka and Aayla must defend them from a horrifying new weapon. "Defenders of Peace" is a much better episode in my opinion, but "Jedi Crash", the first of this story arc, is no slouch either for beginning the road to Ahsoka's vindication..

Crash course in pacifism

This episode begins with an impressive space battle which enters a planet's atmosphere then leads to Anakin getting badly injured. His rescue by Ahsoka and Jedi Aayla Secura goes wrong with them crash landing on a peaceful planet where lemur-like little people insist on total pacifism and not getting involved.
The episode leads into the next episode acting as a 2 part story. This first part is great. The opening battle is terrific and suitably exciting. It shows the Jedi in powerful style and is pretty epic. I also like the sequence where they try to escape with Anakin and the hyperdrive gets damaged. Fun, well animated and dramatic.
We then get a different scenario as the survivors are stranded on a planet with some dangerous wildlife and pacifist villagers. It is entertaining and has some very interesting themes of pacifism versus self defence and fighting for liberty. This exploration of deeper themes is set up really well and leads on to further scenes in the 2nd part.
Veey good episode indeed.
My rating: 9/10.
