Shish Ka-Bob

Warning: Spoilers
The Hubbards and Buells are having their usual argument when things escalate between Roger and Herb. It gets so involved that Roger challenges Herb to a duel and gets out his fencing foil.

As things get hotter, the cops get called but by the time they arrive, Eve & Kaye and the ones with the foils. This leads to having Eve solution the problem by making the swords into shish-ka-bob skewers for Herbs Barbecue. The solution works out to be mighty tasty.

As for the cops, they keep showing up at the worst times and getting a complicated view of the relationship between the in-laws. There is no doubt they are starting to resent getting the calls from these folks.

Herb and Roger couldn't slice butter in a sword fight.

Warning: Spoilers
After an argument during a barbecue over Roger's latest commercial ditty (a silly version of "Greensleeves" called "Crabgrass", Herb challenges Roger to a duel, and the two cowardly aging men do everything they can to hide from their competitor with Eve and Kay's help. This is a five minute sketch stretched out to 22 minutes with Eve and Kay (with help from a dancing Roger) performing "Crabgrass", set up with the premise of Roger having written a TV version of "The Three Musketeers" and becoming obsessed with sword fighting. While this has a great set-up by giving a good view of Eve and Herb's beautiful backyard, it is weakened when Roger shows up and sticks his bandaged finger inside Kay's pot of baked beans. This visual just adds great distaste for his character. Later, Kay and Eve are the ones who end up with the swords in their hand, and the episode ends with a visual of Herb and Roger literally playing sword fights with shishkabab. Probably the weakest episode yet in season one.
