Is this the Worst episode of Peyton Place?
FloridaFred20 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT

The writers were way off on this story. We are introduced to (yet another) new character. But this story is absolutely absurd.

The usually timid and sedate Norman Harrington, and his wife Rita Harrington, walk into a "haunted" cabin after dark. Spooky sounds, including an owl hooting, attempt to add an element of fear. (This show was aired in October, so this is an obligatory Halloween show).

Norman and Rita find a girl sleeping in the abandoned cabin. Incredibly, they awake the hapless girl, blinding her with a powerful flashlight beam. Then they chase her, terrify her, and assault her.

"Assault" is an understatement... Norman's antics border on attempted rape, as he wrestles the girl to the ground. Rita picks up a yard rake, preparing to attack. Then Norman throws the girl off the second floor loft, onto the ground below. The girl is injured so severely that she must be hospitalized!

When they get her to Doctors Hospital, the story gets even worse. The crazed girl, who should have been restrained, creates chaos and mayhem in Peyton Place Hospital. She kicks the Emergency Room doctor to the floor.

Dr. Rossi, oblivious to what is going on, only responds when Norman Harrington insists that he go to the ER to see the girl.

But instead of treating the patient and acting like a concerned physician, Rossi begins interrogating the girl about "Allison's bracelet".

Commenters on other review sites say that the saga of "Rachel Welles" is the worst story-line in the entire 6-year run of Peyton Place. Maybe not, but this introductory episode to Rachel Welles is very poorly done.
