This episode, the last of the final current season, opens with a dog discovering a human jaw bone while being walked in woodland. It is quickly determined that while it belonged to somebody who had been died years before it had only recently been moved to the area. Dental checks identify it as belonging to Viktor Eklund, the son of a famous writer who disappeared five years previously. The case appeared to have been handled badly and Beck was in charge of that investigation. While Beck is recovering from an operation the team try to establish what happened. This will involve Josef questioning shady contacts and Alex wondering why the original investigation was mishandled.
While this might not be the best story in the series. I thought it was pretty good. The central mystery was intriguing and there are enough suspects to keep viewers guessing till the final reveal. The background story involving Beck's health issues combined with questions about how he handled the original missing person's case are likely to make viewers worry about his continued presence in the series. As the end approaches there are some decent twists. As one might expect the cast does a fine job. Overall a solid season conclusion; I look forward to the next season.
