Piss up in a brewery
xmasdaybaby196620 May 2021
I was really looking forward to this having seen much of the cast across shows like Midsomer Murders, Grace, Keeping Faith, Bang and The Accident.

There is an exciting opening through thd woods at night and the drone shots of the area are great but things do seem a bit clunky with the acting and one or two dodgy Welsh accents.

As with the character Ben Jones in Midsomer Murders, Max Price played by Jason Hughes is policeman in the right place at the right time and is promoted to a plain clothes job.

Some of the vehicles don't really seem to fit in with those you would think shop floor workers would drive.

I know it was done last Autumn during the pandemic so maybe they had no time to rehearse and it doesn't look as though the producers could arrange a party in a brewery.

If I hadn't had an investment in knowing the actors from other shows and the area it was filmed then I might not have carried on watching but, writing this after watching the whole series, I can tell you that it does improve.

Loved it.

Jack Evans, has taken over running a brewery from his father, young, drugged up and cocky, on the night of a staff party his actions go too far, and a group of workers play a prank on him.

I have to be honest, I loved it, I was expecting a dark, heavy drama in the style of Hinterland or Hidden, it's not, it's very different, and it is a great start.

Some of Britain's finest here, it's an impressive cast with some fine acting, I have to say I loved Julie Hesmondhalgh here in particular, they all played a part though.

Lots of secrets, lots of mystery and intrigue, I imagine there will be a load of twists and turns here.

Loved it, 9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
Earlier in 2021, Laura Fraser appeared in the mystery thriller Traces set in Scotland.

Now Fraser plays Anna Price who has just been rudely turned down for a supervisor job at a Welsh brewery.

The boss is Jack Evans (Aneurin Barnard) who has taken over from his much revered father. Unfortunately Jack is a cokehead more interested in fast cars than being a personable employer.

He is rude to his staff, nearly raped one of his employees, sacked his aunt and then ends up dead.

A viral stunt at a night out by the brewery staff went wrong and now one of them could be the murderer.

This is Welsh noir but it just looks too derivative. It also purposely goes out to alienate the male audience.

Just like Traces, it is a thriller first and foremost aimed at females.
