Farewell to "Allison Mackenzie"

In the early days of Peyton Place, Allison Mackenzie (played by actress Mia Farrow) was cute, lively, and entertaining. She was one of the most prominent characters on the show. But after the hit and run accident, Mackenzie transformed from a vivacious, beaming young lady, to a character who was dull, lifeless, and depressing.

Allison's parents struggled for months to come to grips with Allison's moodiness and detachment. The other residents of Peyton Place smiled and coddled the "damaged" Allison. Rodney Harrington tried to hold on to whatever romantic attachment once existed between them. He asked Allison to marry him; she said "No".

Something else happened (in real life) that lessened the popularity of character Allison Mackenzie. For reasons unknown, actress Mia Farrow cut off all of her hair. Not a new hair style, but a complete butchering of her long, flowing blonde hair. Character Allison Mackenzie is no longer feminine and attractive, she is now pixie-ish and almost mannish. (How mannish? Friends of Frank Sinatra, who was married to Farrow from 1966 to 1968, referred to Mia Farrow as, "That boy who Frank married").

Now, finally, in this long-awaited episode, the viewers of Peyton Place are relieved of the abysmal character of "Allison Mackenzie". She wanders off somewhere, never to be seen in Peyton Place again.
