The much-awaited return of the ghost detectives on the silver screen is finally available on Netflix, and the fans seem to love it. Based on the DC Comics characters of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the Netflix series is created by Steve Yockey and it follows the story of two ghost detectives who decide not to ascent to their afterlives to stay on Earth and investigate the crimes involving the supernatural. Dead Boy Detectives exists in the same universe as Netflix’s hit DC fantasy drama series The Sandman, and while it is different from The Sandman in its story and visuals, the Dead Boy Detectives seem to be connecting with the fans. So, if you loved the charm and supernatural shenanigans in Dead Boy Detectives here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall was one of the buzziest names to feature on the BBC’s recent 12-strong drama slate and the BAFTA winner can now be seen in first look images playing a teacher in Element Pictures’ The Listeners.
Adapted by the novel’s author Jordan Tannahill, Hall’s character Claire is tormented by a low humming sound that no one else around her can hear. This seemingly innocuous noise gradually upsets the balance of her life, increasing tension between herself and her husband, Paul, and daughter, Ashley. But despite multiple doctors, no obvious source or medical cause can be found.
Scroll down for more pics, including another of Hall and one of Ollie West (Hamnet), who plays student Kyle and can also hear the sound.
Also starring in the series, which was filmed in Greater Manchester, are Prasanna Puwanarajah, Amr Waked (Ramy), Gayle Rankin, Mia Tharia (Phoenix Rise), Franc Ashman, Samuel Edward Cook, Karen Henthorn, Lucy Sheen (Ping Pong) and Ian Mercer.
Deadline revealed the show’s development last March and Poor Things producer Element is making it with Janicza Bravo – whose past credits include Zola, Mrs America and Them – directing. Hall is also starring in James L. Brooks’ next movie Ella McCay and Tessa Thompson’s similarly-named helpline drama The Listener. Fremantle is distributing The Listeners.
Rebecca Dundon, SVP Scripted Content, International at Fremantle said: “The Listeners is a thriller like no other that will surprise, provoke and challenge the status quo.”

Four years ago, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making his latest film Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley has circled back around to Generation Z and is now knee-deep into filming it! To celebrate the fact that Generation Z is finally being made, Channel 4 has unveiled a batch of first look images, and you can check those out at the bottom of this article.

Jim Wiseman’s Sky original documentary “Williams and Mansell: Red 5” is set for a debut on Sky Documentaries and Now on July 8. Featuring some of the biggest names in F1, it follows Nigel Mansell and the Williams Racing team’s rise to fame told through the eyes of his team, family and drivers including Jenson Button, Damon Hill and Karun Chandhok.
Mansell grew up in England in the 1960s, dreaming of becoming a professional race car driver, despite not having the financial means for it, while Frank Williams was realizing his own dream at the company he founded, Williams Grand Prix Engineering. The two joined forces, and after years of trying to win together, Mansell left to join Ferrari and then ultimately retired from racing after years of ups and downs, without ever winning the Formula One Drivers’ Championship. But seemingly overnight, he came out of retirement and re-joined Williams Racing.

Fans of the adult sci-fi animated series “Inside Job” are railing on Netflix for cancelling the series after one season, despite having been ordered for a Season 2. The cancellation was confirmed by series creator Shion Takeuchi on Twitter Sunday.
“Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up,” Takeuchi wrote. “Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to been able to share what was in store with you all.”
Takeuchi also addressed fans directly, writing: “To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along on the ride. Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.”

Netflix has swung the axe on yet another show that ended on a cliffhanger.
In recent months, the streaming service has prematurely called time on several cult titles, which has led to frustration from users.
These cancellations include 1899, Fate: The Winx Saga and The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself.
On Monday (9 January), Shion Takeuchi announced on Twitter that her series, the adult animation Inside Job, would not be returning for a second season.
Inside Job follows anti-social genius Reagan Ridley (voiced by Lizzy Caplan) and her dysfunctional team, who work to hide the world's conspiracies.
After receiving acclaim, it released its second batch of episodes in 2021, and the finale ended on a cliffhanger that left viewers desperate to find out what happened next. Sadly, they never will.

If police drama remains the bedrock of British TV commissions, with 2022 having welcomed crime series Karen Pirie, Marlow, Magpie Murders, The Responder, Sherwood and many more, broadcasters also gave us a glittering seam of new fantasy and horror. Last year saw a host of new British supernatural and sci-fi series, from Joe Barton’s sci-fi action-thriller The Lazarus Project and the criminally since-cancelled YA Netflix fantasy The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, BBC Three teen horror Red Rose, Sky dark comedy The Baby, as well as a new telling of John Wyndham’s spooky children classic The Midwich Cuckoos.
Then there were shows that combined both threads, such as Amazon Prime’s mind-twisting The Devil’s Hour starring Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine, and Pete Jackson’s excellent debut Somewhere Boy. And some new British TV shows didn’t even feature a single murder, like Netflix’s adored Heartstopper graphic novel adaptation.

Each December, acclaimed television series from the previous 12 months are discussed in the form of “best of...” lists. In these, the same shows are usually bandied around – some deserving (Better Call Saul), others not so (we won’t name names).
Often, though, several key titles are omitted – not because they aren’t any good, but because they haven’t been widely seen. This is understandable; after all, there’s an increasing amount of television to wade through every week.
Perhaps this is why these lists are skewed towards the high-profile releases – the ones that happen to be right there when people browse Netflix or whichever streaming service they have. But the fact remains, there’s a goldmine of under-the-radar shows out there to discover.
In the past year, all of the below deserved more love.

Netflix has swung the axe on yet another show after just one season.
The streaming service has a habit of cancelling shows before they have time to develop their fanbase.
Sadly, this is now the case for fantasy series Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself.
Despite it being released on 28 October, the service has decided to call time on the series, which was an adaptation of Sally Green’s novel.
Creator Joe Barton, whose credits include the acclaimed Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project, confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: “Sadly, yes, Netflix have cancelled this. Very proud of it and really liked the people I got to make it with. Sorry not to be able to finish the story...”
Imaginarium, the show’s UK producer, wrote: “Half Bad is a show we are incredibly proud of, which gained stellar reviews, along with a fiercely loyal global fanbase.

Putting a wash on. Attending a school reunion. Making a lasagne. Just some of the things you might have been doing instead of watching TV in 2022. Whatever kept you away from the box, it was a mistake. What you should have been doing is catching up on the below – a selection of British sci-fi, supernatural drama, crime thrillers, and comedy. Back in February of 2021, it was announced that iBoy writer Joe Barton – who at the time was set to be the showrunner of the Gotham Pd series on HBO Max – had been hired to write a new entry in the Cloverfield franchise. The Gotham Pd series has since been scrapped, but that Cloverfield project is still moving forward, as evident by the fact that Under the Shadow‘s Babak Anvari signed on to direct the film back in September. Barton was recently doing the press rounds for his Netflix show The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, and Variety took the opportunity to ask him some Cloverfield questions.
When asked if he’s writing the script with producer JJ Abrams, Barton answered, “No, I’m writing it on my own, JJ is a producer on it. So I go away and do my drafts and then he gives notes and...

Ryan Murphy has been dethroned. Tembi and Attica Locke’s limited series From Scratch has taken over from The Watcher as the most-viewed series on Netflix last week.
The drama series, starring Zoe Saldaña, about an artist who finds romance with a chef in Italy notched 72.02M hours watched in its second week on the streamer. It managed to chart in the Netflix Top 10 in 84 countries.
In its third week since release, The Watcher was bumped to the No. 2 spot from October 24-30, with another 67.51M hours viewed — which is less than half the viewership it drew last week. In total, the series has managed more than 340M hours viewed.

The Zoe Saldaña-led limited series “From Scratch” was Netflix’s top title between Oct. 24 and Oct. 30, bringing in 72 million hours viewed.
This viewing period marks the romance’s first full week of availability on Netflix; last week, it debuted at No. 3 with 32.2 million hours viewed after three days on the streamer. “From Scratch” is based on the memoir of the same name by Tembi Locke, who co-created the series with her sister, showrunner Attica Locke.
“From Scratch” is the first project to outrank Ryan Murphy’s recent output at Netflix. Between Jeffrey Dahmer drama “Monster” and his limited series “The Watcher,” Murphy spent five weeks at the top of the chart. During the Oct. 24-30 window, “The Watcher” dropped to second place on the English-language TV chart with 67.5 million hours viewed — still an impressive showing for its second full week on Netflix. “Monster,” in its fifth full week, took fifth place with 41 million hours.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself.
Just weeks before it arrived on Netflix, YA fantasy adaptation Half Bad was given a new name. The eight-part take on Sally Green’s popular book series about 17-year-old Nathan’s struggle to emerge from the shadow of his notoriously evil father, dropped the original book title in favour of a bulkier option. The change to The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself “was a Netflix thing quite late in the day,” writer Joe Barton tells Den of Geek.
“We’d finished and I think because it’s a spiritual adaptation of the book, I think they [Netflix] wanted to give it a sort of additional identity on top of that. It was quite a fun process. Trying to come up with a new title. We had a long list of options.”

The title’s a bit of a mouthful but it’s very much worth getting your teeth into this Netflix show, based on Sally Green’s Half Bad trilogy of books. This is nominally a YA series, but it really leans into the ‘A’ of that – it’s a coming of age story, just but one that involves sex and drugs and a massive body count with the gore dialled up to the max.
It’s also about witches, but not the nice kind. The Bastard Son follows Nathan (Jay Lycurgo), a 16-year-old whose father, Marcus Edge (David Gyasi), is the most hated and feared ‘Blood witch’ in the whole of the Fairborne witch community. Nathan’s mother was Fairborne, and when Nathan turns 17 he will discover what his power is (Fairborne have just one each) but also whether or not he is a blood witch. All very high fantasy on paper,...

Joe Barton is looking back on what could have been.
The “Giri/Haji” TV writer took over “The Batman” spinoff series at HBO Max, tentatively titled “Gotham City P.D.” Terence Winter (“Boardwalk Empire”) was very briefly attached as showrunner, but was later replaced by Barton. Ultimately, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to part ways with the concept entirely, and reimagined the series as a “horror movie or a haunted house” centered on Gotham mental institute Arkham Asylum, according to executive producer Reeves. “The Staircase” showrunner Antonio Campos is now helming the series.
“It was pretty chaotic when I was doing my thing there so in a way, I didn’t get to avoid the chaos. I think we were slightly the first wave of that chaos,” Barton said of the scrapped series to Variety amid the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, which also saw the shelving of completed DC film “Batgirl.”

Jay Lycurgo, who plays Nathan in upcoming Netflix series “The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself,” finds himself interrogated by witch Celia (Karen Connell) in a new clip from the show, shared exclusively with Variety.
In the series, which is based on the Half Bad YA series by Sally Green, Lycurgo plays the teenage, illegitimate son of Marcus, considered the world’s most dangerous witch.
At the beginning of the series, with the witch community fearing Nathan takes after his father, he is constantly monitored. In the tense scene above a witch called Celia interrogates him, asking him how he is sleeping at night, whether he has violent dreams, if he is quick to anger and whether he feels any negative feelings towards other witches – at which point she notices a bleeding cut on Nathan’s hand appear to heal up.

Over the past half-decade, Joe Barton has quietly become one of the most buzzworthy scriptwriters of the moment. That’s no small feat for how saturated the television landscape is currently. But give the criminally underseen “Giri/Haji” a watch on Netflix, and you’ll understand why HBO Max had him attached to their “Gotham Pd” show (before it became a series about Arkham Asylum).

Exclusive: Almost 50 years after the release of Robin Hardy’s horror classic, Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish’s The Imaginarium and Studiocanal-backed Urban Myth Films are turning The Wicker Man into a TV series.
BAFTA-winning Misfits and War of the Worlds writer Howard Overman has penned the script and Urban Myth and The Imaginarium have acquired the rights from Studiocanal. They are in the early stages of pitching to potential broadcasters, Deadline can reveal.
Originally starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, Hardy’s original has become a cult horror classic. It follows Police Sergeant Neil Howle, who journeys by seaplane to the remote Hebridean Island of Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. The devout Christian is dismayed to find the Islanders paying homage to the pagan Celtic gods of their ancestors and all hell breaks loose, ending in tragedy.
