Sheridan Smith stars as Cilla Black in the new ITV biopic about the Liverpudlian songbird, and the first pictures of the actress's transformation into the flame-haired singer have been released.
A trailer featuring Smith taking on the role of the pop singer during her rise to fame in 1960s Liverpool has also been released, giving viewers a taste of Jeff Pope's three-part drama.
Aneurin Barnard (The White Queen, Citadel, We'll Take Manhattan) stars as Cilla's husband Bobby, Ed Stoppard (The Politician's Husband, Silent Witness, Branded) plays Brian Epstein, John Henshaw (Downton Abbey, Midsomer Murders, South Riding) is Cilla's father, John White and Melanie Hill (Waterloo Road, Hebburn, Merlin) is Cilla's mother, Priscilla.
The drama captures the atmosphere of promise and excitement in the Merseybeat music scene, and the battle for Cilla's heart between future husband Bobby and manager Brian Epstein.

Another beebee for LeeLee! Actress LeeLee Sobieski is pregnant with her second child, her rep confirms to Us Weekly. The Branded star, 30, broke the news without saying a word at the Christian Dior Cruise 2015 fashion show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in NYC Wednesday, May 7. Posing for photos at the event, Sobieski serenely cradled her baby bump as she wore a buttoned cobalt blue top over a matching maxi dress by the evening's designer; the Eyes Wide Shut star accessorized with a Dior [...]...

While we’re sure that Sterling Archer – gloriously self-centred animated star that he is – would not be in the least bit surprised at the popularity of his show, the news of a two-season renewal for Archer is pretty big. At a time when networks and studios are being increasingly cautious with their commitments, ordering a further 26 episodes of anything is a huge vote of confidence.
The award-winning show premiered in January 2010, and is now enjoying an increase in viewership in its fifth season. The original premise of the show centred on the titular egotistical master spy, and his exploits as an agent of Isis (International Secret Intelligence Service). He is helped and hindered in equal measure by his ex-girlfriend and fellow agent, Lana Kane, and his boss – who is also his mother – Malory Archer. A supporting cast of wonderfully dysfunctional characters help to make each episode hilariously off-the-wall.

Branded may be touting itself as a sci-fi thriller, but it feels more like a psychology conspiracy drama. Misha (Ed Stoppard) finds himself in the midst of an epic fast food conspiracy that's starting in Moscow, manipulating his skills as an advertiser for their own profits. But when he gets romantically involved with Abby (Leelee Sobieski), her dad (Jeffrey Tambor) interferes.
His career crumbles and he goes into the wilderness of Russia to shepherd cows. Six years later, Misha has a bizarre dream that leads him to perform a sacred red cow sacrifice that gives him the power to see the psychological manifestations of advertisements. And, with a little ingenuity, Misha may be able to use his ability to stop the fast food insanity that is polluting the world.

Wildcard Films has started shooting a new supernatural thriller called “Blackwood” that will star Ed Stoppard, Sophia Myles, and Russell Tovey. The film is the directorial debut of Adam Wimpenny, and will star Stoppard (last seen in the sci-fi alien invasion flick “Branded”, left) and Myles (“Underworld” and “Moonlight”, though lately she’s been spending a lot of time on Brit TV’s “Mi-5″, below) as a married couple caught up in good ol fashion English supernatural happenings. Stoppard will play “a history professor and his wife who move to a large country house, Blackwood, with their eight year old son (Isaac Andrews). The husband has visions of a masked boy, and starts investigating a mysterious disappearance that may involve a war veteran (Russell Tovey). The family’s life gets further complicated with the arrival of an old friend (Greg Wise) and his beautiful girlfriend (Joanna Vanderham).” Masked boy, mysterious disappearances,...

If there’s one thing I can say with absolute certainty it’s that I have never seen a movie like Branded. It truly is a one-of-a-kind experience. That’s not necessarily a good thing. You’ll get your chance to bare witness to the most Wtf movie of the year next year when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray.
How ironic that a movie all about the misleading power of advertising is being released on DVD and Blu-ray with box art that is very misleading in its own right. “The Invasion has Already Begun”?
Here is Lionsgate’s appropriately vague plot synopsis for this Us-Russian co-production:
Ed Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor and Max Von Sydow star in this mind-bending, sci-fi thriller set in a surreal, not-so-distant future. In a dystopian society where mega-corporations rule, a terrifying conspiracy has been unleashed - one that controls the minds of the citizens.

Branded slithered ( like the flick’s CGI beasties ) last Friday with very, very little fanfare. Kind of appropriate since it’s a film about the evil of marketing…and advertising…and consumerism…the list trudges on and on. And it wants to be a satire / mind-blowing thriller, perhaps like the original Robocop. I doubt if that classic’s director, Paul Verhoeven, could have done anything with this garbled mess of a script. Well, believe it or not, Branded had two directors! The best thing I can say about this new flick is that it’s something that Edward D. Wood, Jr. might have had a hand in making if he were still around. That may not be a fair comparison since Wood’s Grade-z flicks are still pretty entertaining, while Branded is a real cinematic endurance test.

"I don't know if I can pick just one; there are so many great movies, and I love them all for different reasons. But there are definitely some that stand out.
"'Lawrence of Arabia' is definitely near the top of the list. I love Peter O'Toole and how epic it is. It draws you in and that story becomes the world while you are watching it. The landscapes, and the story, it just really stands out. I've watched it, I don't know how many times.
"I also love 'It Happened One Night' because of how romantic it is. I mean, Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert — what an amazing pair.
"And then there's 'Cry-Baby,' directed by John Waters. It was my absolute favorite when I was a little girl. For a 12-year-old girl, Johnny Depp was just so dreamy! I couldn't get over it. His performance was incredible.

Branded is about a cow-shaped constellation that appears to fire lightning bolts onto a marketing expert, who subsequently participates in a corporate branding war in which giant gelatinous balloon-like demon creatures fight each other for global domination. Oh, and you can only see the demons after slaughtering a red cow. Or at least that’s what I think the movie’s about; sorta, maybe. If you need to go back and re-read that monumentally first confusing sentence at least five times, if not ten, don’t fret: You’ve just replicated the experience of sitting through one of the most inexplicable films ever made. Arriving in theaters without press screenings, or advance press of any kind really, this sci-fi piece/faux-infomercial/nonsensical glop inspires a lot of questions. The most pressing: What poor Sob did co-writers/directors Jamie Bradshaw and Alexander Doulerain dupe into funding this? The filmmakers would have a tough time summarizing the plot, if...

The plot of "Branded" (Roadside Attractions, September 7), is grandiose, even absurd. A marketing guru figures out that advertising has altered people's brains, so he attempts to dismantle the marketing machine. Check out the strange imagery in the trailer and clips below. In a metatwist… the advertising campaigns for the film are part of the film's commentary. In an interview with Wired, co-director/co-writer Jamie Bradshaw explained: "I want people to really experience the advertising campaign for the film, the social media part of the campaign and the film itself as different parts of the same work of art." The film's marketing has been fueled with fake company logos and lots of Qr codes - all part of the director's commentary. "Branded" stars Ed Stoppard, Jeffrey Tambor, Leelee Sobieski and Max von Sydow.

"I have tried to pretend that everything is okay." One of the panels we did not attend at Comic-Con this last week was a "Virtual Drive-In" presentation on three genre indies, one of them being this film, Branded. When Solomon Kane was announced, it was touted as the first in a trilogy, but it’s been languished in delays since. Now, the film finally gets a release date, and we have a trailer for you, embedded below, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. To give you a sense of how long it’s been on the shelf, it’s dated as a 2009 film on IMDb.
The film will premiere on video on demand August 24th, and will finally make its way to theaters on September 28th. Solomon Kane is based on the classic fiction of Robert E. Howard (Conan The Barbarian), and stars James Purefoy (who made a splash with The Following at the Comic-Con this year) as a 16th century soldier who must make up for past evils. Kane also stars Max von Sydow (upcoming Branded, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close).

More video greatness crawl’s our way today, and this time the center of attention is the sci-fi shocker, Branded. The trailer made its debut last night at Comic Con as part of the Hall H panel “Virtual Drive-In”. I’ll admit I’ve had a few reservations after previously reading up on the film, but this trailer knocked me clean off the fence, depositing my tail on the “pro” side of the production. This one looks like a damn gnarly psychedelic feature with loads of impressive visuals and a few unsettling monsters running about. Dread Central got an interview with Branded director Jamie Bradshaw at the Comic-Con, and because the film features monsters and the evils of advertising, I thought I’d share it with you.
You used to work in marketing. Was there something about your job that disenfranchised you and inspired the critique in Branded?
“I wouldn’t call it a critique of marketing. I would call it a mind bending journey through our very dark and hallucinatory world. It’s a dark place but it’s the world we live in. I’m not criticizing it. To criticize marketing is to criticize the world. I feel you like you don’t criticize the fundamentals of the world you live in. You express the way it is. It’s the way we’ve chosen to live our lives.”
Everyone is complicit in it.
“We live in an era defined by that complicity.

I should be really excited for directors Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn’s “Branded”. The film has everything I like in my movies — aliens, said aliens invading, the delightfully delightful Leelee Sobieski, and did I mention aliens invading? I love that stuff. So why do I feel so … indifferent towards “Branded”? I dunno. I’m just not feeling the movie. But maybe the trailers just aren’t capable of selling the film’s quality. Let’s hope that’s the case. But hey, judge for yourself by watching the new trailer for “Branded”. We all know how consumerism and corporate greed has a dark side, but you've never seen it like this before. The movie Branded has just unveiled a new trailer for the Comic-Con crowd, and in it, we see how some corporations have created a global conspiracy – manifested as monstrous creatures that latch themselves onto humans – in a dystopian society to keep people dependent on their products. The graphics themselves are visually interesting with the story taking on a Matrix-like feel. The one man who can actually see these creatures rise up is the film's unlikely ax-wielding, code-breaking hero. The film hits theaters Sept. 7 and stars Ed Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor and Max von Sydow. Check out the exclusive trailer below.

When I first read the premise for the upcoming film Branded, I thought it sounded like an intriguing concept; a thoughtful, satirical science-fiction film that would potentially be right up my alley. Then I watched the trailer and I was both confused and repulsed by the terrible special effects. Maybe that's not a fair reaction since it is actually a low budget Russian film and the cartoony CG seems like it is intended to be trippy and psychedelic. Still, I think this might be a hard sell for a lot of moviegoers. The movie takes place in a dystopian future where advertising essentially controls the population. When one former marketing exec starts to have visions of strange creatures influencing people's actions, he realizes that there is a conspiracy going on and he launches a plan to stop it. The movie seems very reminiscent of John Carpenter's They Live but...

There has been a lot of talk and even documentaries on how America has a problem with obesity and is consumed by corporate entities. I think there is a general fear of becoming mindless and more of a puppet with no true form of identity or individuality. To just become a product or a consumer can be a disturbing thing. That is what interests me in the trailer for a film coming out this September called Branded. Yahoo Movies has premiered the trailer and I gotta tell ya, those monsters look really strange & creepy.
