Animation was fun but nothing really happened

Although the animation part was fun to watch but storywise there was nothing new, zoe told the detective the same stuff that we already knew, also they weren't even talking about the murder. So kinda disappointing.

Definitely seems like a filler episode

We weren't introduced to any new plot points in terms of storyline, apart from finding out what was going on in Zoe's head at the reunion. The animation was definitely a cool change of pace and was fun to watch, but all in all in terms of story it wasn't really that different to the first episode. Hopefully the next one will pick up the pace.

Good

Continues to be interesting and fun. The mystery is getting more interesting and Zoe is an interesting character. The animated genre works well and it's enjoyable.

Creative illustration of the multiple facets of a woman's personality
gridoon202430 March 2022
Making this episode animated seems like an odd choice at first, but you soon realize that it was probably the only way to illustrate the multiple "selves" hidden inside Zoe so effectively; the animation itself is crude by "cinematic" standards, but cute and expressive: it is perfectly adequate for what it sets out to do. While not as great as episodes 1 and 3, this is better than 2 and 4, and about on a par with 5. I'd rate it a 7.5/10.

Brilliant

This episode brought a complicated character to life in a brilliantly artistic way. In this episode, Zoe represents the archetype of many mothers going through divorce. I loved seeing the many sides of Zoe, all stuffed into one person. Bravo to the creator. Another great character study. As for the entirety of the episode, it was fun and light, with the storyline inching forward. What I've come to expect out of this series.

Never go full cringe

It was way too exaggerated transforming a decent comedy into freakshow, if they really wanted to do an animation they should've gone with the crazy arthouse character.

It was decent but weird

Vice-principal. Aniq's crush. Chelsea's former friend. Brett's ex-wife. Maggie's mom. Zoe is many Zoes rolled up into one. Wonder no more about the bear in the opening credits -Mama Bear Zoe is here, and she takes no prisoners. This has to be the most inventive, absurd, and ambitious episode of The Afterparty. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the best. Conceptually, it's strong. It makes sense to have Zoe, the art teacher, have her story told in the style of a cartoon, but the execution is messy. It's also still really not cool that he and Yasper are listening in to the conversation, despite the shenanigans they got into looking for a charger. Not only is it illegal, but it's also ethically murky.

The most entertaining sequence by far was when Zoe realized she could just have fun by herself well, with her other selves. The Afterparty is at its heart an ensemble comedy, and it has managed to maintain this vibe despite each episode having only one central character. With so much of this episode focusing on an animated Zoe and multiple versions of herself, the only other characters we saw in real-life were Aniq, Yasper, Culp, and Danner (with a little bit of Jennifer #1). Zoe spent more time with Xavier than virtually anybody else, but we're no closer to finding out who killed him. If anything, this was the clearest picture of Xavier that we got from anyone, and it tracks most of what he was doing that night -- right up until his death, which is the most crucial part. At the end of the episode, Zoe makes a good point, one that the show has done expertly -- any one of them could have done it. Details could have been left out of anyone's stories. It seems likely that the culprit is someone unexpected, someone who hasn't had an episode centered around them. This was an uneven episode, but it did have moments of brilliance that wouldn't have been possible without the medium of animation.

Zoe the animated schizophrenic!!
feargal-9155820 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode uses animated fun to show us the many faceted personalities of Zoe . Even though we are not really given any new exposition (except for the nuclear bunker hiding room!) maybe it was Zoe who did it. However was it fun Zoe , was it normal Zoe or was it Mama Bear 🐻 Zoe ?!? That's why she told the detective she didn't do it , she doesn't even know she has split personalities !!
