After their overwhelming victory over the French in the Franco-Prussian War, Prussia joined with other German states and Duchies to become a unified German Reich, albeit dominated in terms of territory and population by the Prussians. Wilhelm of Prussia became Emperor Wilhelm of the German Empire. When this story takes place (approximately 1896), Kaspar would more properly be referred to as a German, not a Prussian.
The murder of Ezra Delamore was filmed in front of Victoria Hall in Cobourg, Ontario.
