It really is a shame that Disney chased away so many people from Star Wars with recent installments.
poseyfan17 November 2022
Andor got the brunt of the sword and it is really disheartening. Obi-Wan Kenobi and BOBF turned a lot of people off unfortunately.

Andor is the show that the adult side of every Star Wars fan yearned/yearns for. This is a real show with chalant characters; intelligent writing with a large dose of rationale. Everything makes sense. Nothing makes you scratch your head in confusion.

If you are reading this, and you HAVEN'T watched Andor yet, I urge you to check it out. Sure, it's slow, but I like to use the term focused. And that focus gives the action exponentially more weight when it comes. The payoff is potent.

This episode was no exception. Luthen is becoming one of my favorite characters in Star Wars, and it was cool to see more aliens. I also can't wait to see what happens with Mon Mothma, Cassian and Syril.

Can't wait for next week!

Lays solid foundations for the finale with good character moments
snoozejonc16 November 2022
News of a significant death travels fast, whilst Luthen pushes Saw to play the long game.

This is a strong episode that nicely sets up the season finale.

There is some fairly tense build up for certain characters that bodes well for the final episode of the series. Easily the strongest scenes for me involve Luthen. I love the dialogue with Saw, as both Stellen Skarsgåd and Forrest Whitaker are excellent as always when they share the screen. Plus there is one action focussed scene involving TIE Fighters that has some particularly cool moments for the character.

I also enjoyed the scene involving Mon Mothma as this character continues to intrigue and Genevieve O'Reilly is on great form as always. In fact all the scenes relating to the development of the Rebel Alliance is the stuff of nerdgasms for a long time Star Wars fan like me.

Luthen is a badass!
thefoochie17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Andor won't stop being amazing. This is definitely a calm before the storm episode, but it does a great job at setting up for the finale. All the different plot points that have been building up since the beginning are finally starting to converge. It seems like syril and andor are going to face off once again in the finale. I can't wait for andor to kick his butt for a second time.

The standout character in this episode was Luthen, by far. I loved his scene with saw gerrera. We see what he means when he says he had to sacrifice his humanity in last epsiode's speech. He's willing to sacrifice 30 men for the greater good. I honestly love how dark this show is. It shows the true costs of leading a rebellion. Some people are going to have to die.

The best scene was when Luthen gets stopped by an imperial ship. Oh. My. God. This scene was so intense. I kept wondering "how is he gonna get out of this?" Every time the imperial guy kept growing more and more suspicious, my heart raced faster and faster. My heart dropped when they started to pull Luthen towards their ship. Thankfully, due to the empire's cockiness, they let their guard down and Luthen is able to escape. That's what they get for underestimating him! God, he's such a badass.

Andor's scenes were also good. Him and his prisoner friend attempt to steal a ship but they get caught by these two aliens. I had always hoped there would be more aliens in this show, so seeing these two creatures was a joy to watch. At the end, cassian finds out that maarva died, and his reaction is very well-acted. Speaking of her death, can I just mention how heartbreaking the droid's reaction to her death was? "B-b-but I don't want to be alone. I want to be with m-m-maarva." I cant believe this show made me care so much about a droid.

Andor looks like it's building towards a climactic and action packed finale. My guess is Cassian will return to Ferrix and face off against Syril and/or Dedra Meero. I can't wait to be blown away. 8.5/10, but I'm gonna round up to a 9.

Another stellar episode
mzand-751-53957216 November 2022
Tony Gilroy along with Beau Willimon from House of Cards have brought a level of sophistication and nuance to the Star Wars universe beyond all expectation. Their brilliant writing delves into the minute details of what fascism really is and exposes the empire's evil in a way no other film or series in the franchise has done before. It's like watching a real historical drama about rebellion and resistance against Nazi Germany.

The tension in the previous two episodes where Andor was imprisoned in the empire's concentration/labor camp was riveting and nerve wracking, not only because of the writing, but also the exquisite ATTENTION TO DETAIL. The brutal subjugation protocols of the prison down to the minute details of their forced labor on the prison assembly line along with the beautifully crafted sets (on all the different worlds) all serve to make this the best and most intelligent Star Wars franchise ever made.

This is by far my favorite show streaming on any platform right now. The rest of the Star Wars universe pales in comparison.

Can't believe I was hating on this show all those weeks ago.
specialbobby16 November 2022
The poker face of the Star Wars universe. This show was always playing the long game, I was going to fold, it had me fooled. It's a drama that kept getting better and better and this week we had a huge emotional gut punch, a heart wrenching performance from a droid, characters being captured by huge nets made of tripe, the pieces all coming together for the Empire snd the rebellion and a cheeky little space battle. Everything about this show improves week on week, setting up a 'well im not sure' for next week as the story will go on for 12 more episodes soon after. Can't wait for its hand to be played, I'm going all in.

Just perfect - this is how rebellions start
Galactic_Cruiser17 November 2022
Perfect. The score, the script, the acting, the sets, the ships, everything. This is the best thing Star Wars has made.

Think about what and why rebellions start. They dont start because life is good. They start because life is broken. It takes courage, faith and commitment - even in the face of hard choices - and there are plenty of hard choices here.

You start because rebellion is all you have left.

To the writers, amazing, amazing work. You have really brought Star Wars into the 21st century.

Luthen and his story is outstanding. Hard choices, shady work, coded dialogue. Andor is amazing but he is the vehicle for the story. How does one man, not interested in rebelling learn to rebel. We find it here. Diego is super.

The ISB - everything you knew the Empire to be. Specific, on the ball, sharp, watching. But overreaching. Their over confidence will be their undoing.

The fight scene - again just wow. Everything you ever hoped for done perfectly. This show is not about x wings and tie fighters - but they serve and they are there.

Mon Mothma - you legend. You steal every show. Your faith and commitment to the role and the amazing dialogue you have is spellbinding.

This is the best show since GoT (the early seasons - obviously). Long may you reign.

So brilliantly structured.
axlrhodes16 November 2022
This show has built itself a really great scope of paranoia and intrigue. I think what is particularly satisfying is how so few of us saw this coming. It makes it such a treat. We've got back to the Empire as this terrifying force in the universe. It's a really great reminder to fans of what was so deftly constructed in the original trilogy and it's great to discover how Tony Gilroy truly understands the background landscape of those movies that we all love so dearly.

It's refreshing to be afraid of the Empire once again. The final shot is quite contemplative and has some symmetry with Rogue One.

The best sci-fi action scene of 2022
Geekofriendly16 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
No other series in recent memory has made me want to pay tribute to it as much as "Andor".

Not only has it firmly cemented itself as the best Star Wars drama, now it's giving us some of the best action in Star Wars as well. Those 5 minutes of tension blew me away. It goes to show how much I've started caring for these characters. Especially Luthen. I suspect we'll have one heck of a tear-jerker in the 2nd season.

"Andor" very much embraces the "show me, don't tell me" approach. And everything feels viscerally real. The old spaceship that barely lifts up the ground, the mourning droid, the tortured prisoner, the anguish of a mother who's about to make a terrible personal sacrifice in order to save others, the son who merely wanted to see his mother again. I feel for all of them. And with them.

After the first 5 episodes I already rated this entire series as an 8, but I've since changed my rating to a stellar 9.

Poor little guy!
Trey_Trebuchet21 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I mean the droid of course. Felt absolutely terrible for him in the opening scene.

The death of Maarva is felt quite a bit, even though she passed away off screen. It'll be interesting to see what the writers have done with the season finale. I can definitely see hints at who will and won't be returning. Either way, I'm very invested in this show, if you couldn't tell.

The final confrontation between Luthen and those twerps from the Empire was pretty short-loved yet enthralling. Luthen is a surprisingly entertaining, great character. That final shot of the ship's commander looking through the glass so defeated, with the reflection of the destroyed ships... one of the best "ha gotcha" moments in a good while for me.

Acting is all very solid, as is the production. VFX, make-up, direction, editing... great quality. No idea where that budget came from, but I'm glad it was put to great use.

"Daughter of Ferrix"
allmoviesfan16 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Another slow burn episode. But that isn't a bad thing on Andor, where there is great character development when the blasters aren't firing.

Ultimately, everything is in flux and nothing is resolved in 'Daughter of Ferrix', which is absolutely fine (and to be expected) because the next episode is the final one of Andor's excellent first season, which, alongside the Rogue One movie, is probably the best piece of Star Wars storytelling since the original trilogy.

Another Saw Gerrera appearance. He is one of the Rogue One characters who I've always wanted to know more about, and we are at least getting glimpses of the grizzled Clone Wars veteran played so well by Forrest Whittaker.

The season started on Ferrix and it seems likely to end on Ferrix as well. Good full-circle storytelling. You know that Cassian will head back to his home planet now that he knows his mother has died. You know that the Imperial forces there are on the lookout for him to do just that.

It sets up a spectacular finale...

This show is getting better towards the end
matyagriffioen16 November 2022
With a bit of a rough start, Andor is proving to become a must watch show.

This episode specifically focusses more on character development and gives the actors the needed screentime to actually act. Long close-ups engage the watchers and we can see the change in our characters unfolding in a way the old films use to do it.

As the previous episode, it's of a high quality, and after the rush of the previous episode, this one is a well paced, visually stunning and emotionally engaging 40 min.

The camera work, acting and editing is on the spot and Benjamin Caron's directing is superb!

I cannot wait for the season's final!

Daughter of Ferrix
Prismark109 March 2023
Andor's mother Maarva has died. She will get a traditional funeral if one is allowed by the Empire.

Dedra Meero is sure that Andor will show up for her mother's funeral. She will allow the funeral rites to go ahead as it will be a trap for Andor.

It is just that no one knows that Andor is in prison, the kind where no one comes out alive.

Oh wait, luckily Andor managed to break out of prison in time. He also stumbled on two aliens who set up a booby trap but then kindly decided to give him a lift to Niamos.

What were the chances?

Some might say it was rather clumsy storytelling. At least the series is setting up for the finale.

Luthen gets the coolest moment as he takes on a star destroyer and destroys some TIE fighters. I am sure Stellan Skarsgard enjoyed his Star Wars moment.

Why the hate against religion?
Riddler912 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was wondering all along what is the deal with religion in this show. For a show that tackles a lot of stuff from our world, religion was fairly absent. Until the scene with Mothma and Vel. That was plainly disgusting, sorry. The characters acted like religion is the plague. Imagine that attitude but about literally any other subject. I don't know, maybe about sexualities that aren't traditional? Can you imagine the outrage about that? We all know that wouldn't fly. But religion? For progressives religion is like a pinata, you can attack it and no one gets offended, on the contrary it shows you are "open-minded", as Mothma put it. Disgusting scene.

Skarsgård killing it
Faena17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Luthen owning the Imperial patrol ship has got to be one of the greatest Star Wars thrills of my lifetime. He is a total badass. Know who else is? Tony Gilroy. Thank you, Sir. You found a side of Star Wars that's been missing for decades and gave it back to us.

The writing, performances, direction, everything is superb. The sets, tech -- even the hairstyles -- faithfully evoke the ANH era, as they should. Andor mountingly serves the Star Wars mythos with sophisticated, intelligent content; a welcome relief after the chintzy, awful Obi-Wan Kenobi. I can't wait to see what the finale is packing, and Season 2 should be even more incredible. Maybe we'll see the Mon Calamari join the Rebel Alliance. Exciting.

By the way, Andor goes back to the beach planet for a gun and some loose change? As in the planet with random Imperial slave labor life sentences?? You wouldn't catch me within ten systems of that place.

A Star Wars series worthy of the name.
jimgiles-7710417 November 2022
11 episodes in and this series continues to deliver week after week, episode 11 Daughter of Ferrix was on one hand an emotional and thought provoking journey and the grief associated with loss and on the other the dilemma of a decision on whether or not the needs of the many are indeed more or less important than the needs of the few or in this case 31.

Gilroy has crafted an original, grounded and gritty Star Wars similar to The Mandalorin but distinctly different at the same time, it feels in some respects like a more adult story somehow far and away removed from Disney / Lucasfilm's most recent attempts. Andor stands head and shoulders above both Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett and is certainly worth while watching and very deserving of a second season. Good Star Wars at last!

Warning: Spoilers
Petition to change this shows name as "Andor & Luthen" oh Maan , if republic had 10 Soldiers like Luthen ; Palpatine would have suffered Asthma attacks . I mean come on! The guy is the alter ego of Darth Vader , smiling , teasing Mon mothma Boom!

Blaster shot Nobody's laughing now anymore...

Plus the depth this show is carrying is impressive beyond recognition. This show is proudly saying it is made for mature audiences ; & yes ,us who are now 25 + want actually more gritty content like this. Better late than never. Only if , only if they could have made Obi wan kenobi gritty, dark like this .. Star wars show would have been the favorite series franchise across any network platforms. & I seriously mean it. Mandalorian , clone wars last season, bad batch , now this .. 9 because of the way Andor & his friend found a jump ship & escaped Narkina 5 that easily. Haha a bit of lazy writing, but i ll let it pass.

I can finally flex in front of my friends that, Star wars shows are far better than mcu shows & any other bull shows they're viewing. Last episode, papa palpi , you be there ..

Powerful
ianfuller-6777017 November 2022
I am really enjoying this series! It's hard to believe this is connected to the overarching Star Wars storyline. The spy craft can be treacherous, muddled and the end game is not always clear. These characters keep me coming back every week and I am really loving the world building these storytellers are crafting. I don't think I would recommend this series for kids, but if you're an adult who grew up with SW like I am there might be something here for you. I hope the production crew and writers can keep this show going, and I also hope that Lucasfilm keeps them on retainer for future SW material!

All the Luthen scenes hit different
tristan_1916 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Daughter of Ferrix is a sharply paced setup picking up right after the events of One Way Out. The discovery of Maarva's death launches a sequence of events into motion.

There is a couple stand out scenes all throughout. Luthen visiting Saw and discussing sacrifice at war is really poignant and makes you think. The Haulcraft scene is classic Star Wars, and Cassian learning his mother is dead was really sad and tragic. Melshi and Cassian's relationship is beautiful too.

Syril Karn is about to step back into the game and the wait couldn't be more suspenseful. Bix is still captive, and Cinta watches Maarva's house. Mon Mothma's story is still impactful and you really feel the emotion.

The music is still on point, and some of the shots in there are fantastic. Episode 11 really takes its time in preparing the field for the finale and stands on its own nonetheless. This funeral is probably going to be eventful and memorable for numerous reasons.

There is still some loose ends to tie up, but the stories are probably going to spill into Season 2. Can't wait !

Great Penultimate and Semi-Breather Episode
MamadNobari9716 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was a nice change of pace after that intense finale of the Prison Arc, and the quality doesn't drop at all and the writing and the dialogue get better and better. The only reason I'm giving this a 9 is because, well not every episode has to be a 10/10 and obviously The Eye and the Prison Arc episodes were obviously better, not to say that this wasn't.

We get another great performance from the actress of Mon Mothma and she does a great job again albeit her scenes are really short.

In fact, the whole episode was short and I wish it was longer. Because we didn't get that much from Meero and Syril, but it's understandable as they can't really do that much with them since Andor's storyline has to catch up with them so they all can collide in the finale.

This episode is emotional too but I feel like it could've been more emotional if it had a little more build-up and also if the relevant storyline wasn't from a month ago which we kinda forgot since we've been in the prison for three weeks. Emotional nonetheless and the acting all around is great.

It is no surprise that the star of the show again is Luthen. He has another great scene with Saw and then another scene with his assistant, and the dialogue for those scenes are really well-written as always. I didn't expect this episode to have action, but Luthen gets to shine once again and we get a really unique, exciting, and tense action scene with him that makes his character more of a badass than he already is and more iconic, and I enjoyed it a lot.

The only nitpick I have from this episode, but actually from the Prison Arc even though I gave all of those episodes 10/10s, is that I wish we got to know Melshi better and they established an actual friendship between him and Cassian. We got more from Kino than Melshi which I didn't even know was in Rogue One if it wasn't for people mentioning it online. This is why I wish episodes were longer and they did more with Melshi, because as of right now and while watching the episode, I don't really know him and don't really care about him. They should've absolutely had a subplot about them becoming friends, no matter how small it was, there should've been one, because it happened off-screen and they did more for Kino than they did with him. And this makes Andor running away with Melshi and only Melshi kinda forced and contrived because they're obligated for the continuity. It's not really that big of a deal and a big nitpick since he wasn't that big of a character in Rogue One either (I know he helped a lot), but I just wish they did more establishing his character in the prison, or even in this episode too.

All in all, this episode was a nice breather after that intense prison escape episode and it's a great penultimate as it sets up the finale in a really great way so all the plotlines and subplots can converge in one point and we hopefully get a well-written finale with no cliffhanger because waiting till 2024 for season 2 will be really hard!

This Star Wars at the best
dj-wookie16 November 2022
I never expected to this turn of events after the last episode, but this is a good one and i might say one of the few with a Star Wars vibe until now, it's like a sad version of one of the best episodes from the Mandalorian, Boba Fett and Kenobi, mixed with some good influences from Babylon 5 and Battlestar Gallactica and made it with a very original vision. I bet the most softies fans, including the girls, will cry at the end of the episode and at the finale of the end credits music score. I will not spoil anything, but i will say with this episode, this series exceeds the quality of Star Trek Strange New Worlds. I Iike the mature and yet sometimes a little funny tone of this series and when you think everything from what is happening in this series it is the result of Darth Sidious and Darth Vader's actions, you will realise how much this series expands the entire Star Wars universe. I do hope they will mantain the quality of the show in the next season and they will not follow the path of Altered Carbon's tv series which it turned in to a mess in the second season and i do hope they will change their minds and they will give us more seasons.

Best Star Wars universe possible.
gkimmarygleim18 November 2022
I grew up during the original Star Wars era. Please don't hold this against me, but while I enjoyed the movies I wasn't a huge fan. Kinda lost track of the franchise over the years. But now ... I picked up again when streaming started. I went back to watch everything in chronological order. Then suddenly there was The Mandalorian. Wow. Blew me away.

And now Andor. IMO now is the perfect time where the acting, the writing, the directing, music and technology all meet and produces the best Star Wars universe possible. With Andor, each week has given us just simply the best possible episode. This week allowed us to catch our breath slightly, until Luthen ran rings around the Imperial patrol! Where did he learn to fly and invade like that? And then when Cassian hears the news about his mother, I believe we all cried. Again today I say well played everyone. Well played.

"People need to know about this"
tuvalu_khamatova19 November 2022
It's sad this season is coming to an end. The drama, the twists and the character definition make you part of the story and you get involved with the importance of the rebellion, all of this make the show a relevant part of the Star Wars franchise. Nothing else to say. Hats off to this show. Cassian teaches you that every effort you make, not matter how hard it is, has a special award. The human touch about power, the need of surviving, the message of fighting and never giving up. Even the music gives you the chills in the story itself. The good will always triumph over the bad. It's the message we're happy to get.

Daughter of Ferrix
lassegalsgaard2 December 2022
As "Andor" is nearing its final stretch, it's clear that they're gearing up for something. There's the saying of "the quiet before the storm," and this episode seems to completely embody that saying. There are a few loose ends that they'll have to tie up, but with the incredible work that Tony Gilroy has done with navigating this show through these arcs, this feels like the beginning of the end as it does start to tie up some of those ends before the finale airs. This was definitely a more laid back episode, but still featuring some of this season's best sequences, especially its action.

For the first time, it seems like all of the storylines are nearing that connection point, and it feels like poetic justice that it's happening where the entire thing started. The entire idea of basing this big finale around the funeral of Maarva Andor is amazing writing, and the spark that the audience got to see in her from the first episode is the spark that's going to light the fire of the rebellion. It's going to inspire a lot of these figures to take the fight seriously, and it'll probably influence Andor to finally join the cause as well. All the pieces are moving now, so it doesn't matter that they decided to bring it down a little bit, because it's going to be full-on with the next episode. The episode also gave the show a big action sequence that, while being short, will hopefully satisfy the people who have longed for more space battles in the show. It was badass and it gave some nice development to Luthen who is quite the pilot. This episode also made it obvious that Gilroy's vision for the show was always to show the beginning of the rebellion, and while some may wish it could have happened a little quicker, it takes time to set all of this up. This episode showed how satisfyingly they've been able to make it all work and if they're able to stick the landing, this is going to be a truly memorable show and one of the best in this universe.

"Daughter of Ferrix" is deliberately moving all the characters to the same spot to prepare for the fireworks that are going to fly come the finale. It has a great action sequence, and while it was a little slow, it was difficult to look away because of the brilliant way Tony Gilroy has structured everything.

Necessary episode to prepare for the season finale
jakobrignell16 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While not as adrenaline-filled as the previous, the penultimate episode of season 1 still contains the expected ingredients of a good season about to reach its conclusion. Every character gets some screen time, things are set in motion (Saw is informed of. Luthen's plan, Syril knicks some of his mother's credits to be able to attempt an interception of Andor heading to his mother's funeral etc). It's a needed pathway to lead us into the final episode.

That's not to say that the episode didn't pack a few punches, be it emotional (B2 mourning his "mother" pulled a bit on my heartstrings atleast) or the space fight scene familiar with those who watched the trailers (how awesome isn't Luthen's ship?!)

I feel torn between two emotions going into the finale next week; excited to see how they wrap it up, but also sad that we won't get any new Andor for a while after that.

Either way, bring it on!

Star Wars : An Epic Story
ciobi-5117917 November 2022
-Did you ever ask yourself how a story would look if the thoughts and words could be replaced by a spectacular image, or a landscape or even by a short video of a moment stopped in time ?!?...if you want to know, this episode is the response. This episode has e ertything,a very good space battle, a good story, good visual landscapes and what is more important, good acting. I know many older fans (but not the oldest ones) say this show is not Star Wars, but so what ?!?..a real Star Wars show should have the Jedi order and Sith lords, light swords and space battles, fight droids, not mandalorians or something else, just like Kotor Games (but without that weird cowboy guy, lol) and they should be placed even in a post sequels era, but if you are counting on things like this, not even Madalorian or The Book of Boba Fett are not real Star Wars series, but IMHO, developing the Star Wars universe is not a bad thing at all and tbe proof are the ratings and reviews of The Mandalorian and Andor tv series. Anyway,to return to this episode's review, it reminds me in a very strange way about a movie with Johnny Deep, The Ninth gate (even if the type of the story is very different) ,it has the same kind of ending, when everthing is fading into this timeless light, and nothing seems to count on the universal scale.
