Another Frankenstein-themed flick is coming our way that looks like a nice cheesy sliver of 1980's weirdness, and we have your first look at it right here. That's right, Dreadheads... grab you knives and forks and get ready to tango with Frankenstein's Hungry Dead.
From cult indie director Richard Griffin (The Disco Exorcist, Exhumed, Murder University, Nun of That), look for the flick (also known as Dr. Frankenstein's Wax Museum of the Hungry Dead) on special edition DVD from Wild Eye Releasing in early 2015.
Synopsis
Halloween night 1983: A group of teens break into a wax museum for some fun but instead find a gruesome secret awaiting them deep in the basement. Doctor Frankenstein himself has been piecing together the ultimate monster and creating a small army of the dead with the leftovers. Now, the teenagers must stop Frankenstein and his growing zombie horde or be sewn into the legendary mad doctor's latest masterpiece.

For episode 23 we invited Director Richard Griffin back on the show to discuss his latest, post-apocalyptic action film Future Justice. We’re discussing the making of the film as well of some of Richard’s other films, Nun of That and The Disco Exorcist. In a greater discussion about the post-apocalyptic genre itself, Richard discusses some of the films that inspired Future Justice, like the Italian post-apocalyptic wave of Bronx Warriors and Fall of New York. Our conversation eventually turns to the world of indie filmmaking and some of the challenges and privileges of working on the indie level. Give a listen, and don’t forget to share your reviews of Hey You Geeks on iTunes!

It's Friday, and do you know what that means? Yep! It's exclusive time! On tap is a clip from Exhumed, a uniquely original vision of horror written by Guy Benoit (Atomic Brain Invasion), produced by Ted Marr (The Disco Exorcist), and directed by Richard Griffin (Nun of That).
Director Richard Griffin (Nun of That, The Disco Exorcist) believes, "Exhumed marks a real change of pace, not only for us, but for modern horror in general. There are no tricks, no gimmicks, no CGI fakery, but a return to classic storytelling. I am quite proud of the level of performances in this movie, which are only matched by the sheer originality and power of the screenplay by Guy Benoit. I think audiences will be quite disturbed by the events that take place in the film."
Producer Ted Marr says, "[We are] really excited to be trying something new with Exhumed. It's almost like a period piece,...

Scorpio Film Releasing, creators of The Disco Exorcist and Nun of That, have provided us with the official trailer for their latest feature film, Murder University. It delivers suspense, thrills, and a bloody good time in the spirit of a 1980's slasher.
Synopsis:
A series of brutal, cult-like murders are taking place at a New England college. Josh Greene (Jamie Dufault), a shy freshman, is the lone survivor of a series of murders that are reminiscent of a similar string of killings some twenty years prior. As he seeks to uncover the secret behind the attacks, he is joined by Detective Forrester (Michael Thurber), who was instrumental in halting the bloodshed before, and his daughter, Meg (Sammi Acampora), who had barely escaped being a victim previously.
The film is directed by Richard Griffin (Nun of That), written by Lenny Schwartz, and produced by Ted Marr (Atomic Brain Invasion) and Kristin Kayala...

One film we're looking forward to checking out is Richard Griffin's Exhumed, which has a real retro vibe thanks to its black & white palette, and if you happen to live in or near Foxboro, Massachusetts, you can beat us to the punch when the flick premieres on November 11th. In honor of the occasion the filmmakers have sent us a trio of new stills to share.
From the Press Release:
Scorpio Film Releasing, comprised of New England's premier genre filmmakers, is proud and excited to announce the world premiere of its newest, darkest, most beautifully unsettling feature to date: Exhumed.
Different from the acclaimed genre fare Scorpio Film Releasing is known for, Exhumed is a terrifying fairy tale centered in the repulsive recesses of humanity. Loneliness, solitude, fear, and longing lead an unlikely group of housemates to the darkest edges of life and death.

Heralded by adjectives like "unique," "original," and other words to describe how different this film is from modern horror fare, comes Exhumed . This is a decidedly different approach to the genre for director Richard Griffin who brought us Nun of That and The Disco Exorcist and it stars Debbie Rochon, Sarah Nicklin, Michael Reed, Michael Thurber, Rich Tretheway, Evalena Marie and Jonathan Thomson. I'm not ready to start waxing poetic about how "different" this looks because, honestly, it doesn't. Stylistically, it may be a departure for the guy who directed Creature from the Hillbilly Lagoon . But every director has to mature, right? A trailer and a poster are here and we're sharing them with you below. Here's how it's being described...

Earlier this year we told you about Exhumed, a uniquely original vision of horror written by Guy Benoit (Atomic Brain Invasion), produced by Ted Marr (The Disco Exorcist), and directed by Richard Griffin (Nun of That). This week Scorpio Film Releasing dropped us a line to let us know the film has wrapped production and provided us with three new stills.
Exhumed marks Sfr's 10th feature, their others including Nun of That, Atomic Brain Invasion, Disco Exorcist, Beyond the Dunwich Horror, and more. Producer Marr says that "even though we are early in the process, from looking at the raw footage, I strongly suspect that this will be our best work to date. Certainly the best technically."
Director Griffin further explains that "Exhumed is a major change of pace for us. Guy Benoit's amazing screenplay is not filled with the typical "Things That Go Bump In The Night" creatures like vampires,...

Scorpio Film Releasing has sent out a press release and a new still for their upcoming acquisition called Exhumed, which is in the vein of recent indies that are honoring past classics. Much like how House of the Wolf Man homaged the classic cannon of Universal Horror Films from the 1940s, Exhumed is doing the same but to the thrillers from the ’60s like Psycho or Peeping Tom. The film was successfully completed thanks to Kickstarter.
Scorpio Film Releasing’s newest film, Exhumed wraps production.
Providence, Ri – Scorpio Film Releasing has wrapped production on Exhumed, the darkly twisted tale of a socially maligned family who are seemingly unable to leave their own home. This film marks Scorpio Film Releasing’s 10th feature, their others including Nun of That, Atomic Brain Invasion, Disco Exorcist, Beyond the Dunwich Horror and more.

While we had heard 2009: Mutants of the Apocalypse was going to be the next project for Scorpio Film Releasing, it turns out that instead they're moving forward with Exhumed, a uniquely original vision of horror written by Guy Benoit (Atomic Brain Invasion), produced by Ted Marr (The Disco Exorcist), and directed by Richard Griffin (Nun of That).
The production will star Sarah Nicklin (Nun of That), Michael Reed (The Disco Exorcist), Ruth Sullivan (Nun of That), Michael Thurber (The Disco Exorcist), Rich Tretheway (Atomic Brain Invasion), Jonathan Thomson, and genre great Debbie Rochon as the Governess.
Synopsis:
Exhumed deals with a twisted family that is seemingly unable to leave their own home. Their gnarled existence and mounting animosity finally give way to violence and visceral panic. Exhumed’s closest living relatives would perhaps be The House of the Devil, Ils, and The Strangers. The recently deceased would include the...

Scorpio Film Releasing has announced that its next production, and most ambitious to date, will be the feature film 2009: Mutants of the Apocalypse, a unique look at a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by outlandishly deformed mutants, ruthlessly violent gangs, corruptible leaders, wasteland temptresses, and the most badass antihero in movie history: Python Diamond.
From the Press Release:
New England genre film director Richard Griffin tackles his loftiest vision yet in an epic production of grand scale action and science fiction. As with Griffin’s other films Nun Of That, Beyond The Dunwich Horror, Atomic Brain Invasion, and upcoming The Disco Exorcist (read more about that here), 2009: Mutants Of The Apocalypse will be a genre inspired adventure movie much like Escape from New York or the Italian “Spaghetti-Apocalypse” films Bronx Warriors, The New Barbarians, and Fall of New York. Stories like this one are why I love writing for Dread Central. Where else could we learn about a movie called The Disco Exorcist?!?
From the Press Release:
Scorpio Film Releasing is proud to announce that their next production will be The Disco Exorcist, a blood-soaked tale of revenge, sex, black magic, disco dancing, and mountains of cocaine. New England genre film director Richard Griffin takes on his bloodiest, sexiest film yet with a production so lurid that only a rating of Nc-17 will suffice.
As with Griffin’s spot-on genre throwback Nun of That and Beyond the Dunwich Horror, The Disco Exorcist promises to be a pitch perfect representation of the 1970’s exploitation genre. "In this age of soulless state-of-the-art, 3D, IMAX CGI-laden 'filmmaking', we thought it would be exciting to bring the art of cinema back to its most basic. Film. Real film ... with grain and scratches, warts and all.

Scorpio Film Releasing and director Richard Griffin are currently in the midst of their latest production, the ’50s genre homage Atomic Brain Invasion. Scripted by Guy Benoit and Griffin, who sent over a couple of advance “lobby cards” (see below) and produced by Ted Marr, the movie is currently two weeks away from finishing up principal photography.
As opposed to Griffin’s previous horrific/violent fare (including Nun Of That, hitting DVD in January; see details here), Atomic Brain Invasion will, in the spirit of its inspirations, be more of a PG-level affair. “Not only do I want it to look and sound like it was made in 1957,” Griffin tells Fango, “but I also want it to be free of all the blood, profanity and nudity of modern horror films. It’s wonderful to have a horror movie that people of all ages can enjoy, much like the classic creature...

Toss a stone in any direction and, chances are, you’ll connect with someone working on their own personal homage to 70’s cult cinema. Some of these ambitious endeavors look great, some look genuinely awful, and some look cooler than your creepy uncle’s five-foot afro. “Splatter Disco” director Richard Griffin’s upcoming nunsploitation action extravaganza “Nun of That” definitely falls into the latter category. To be perfectly honest, it’s hard to dislike a movie that features a trio of nuns kicking a little ass, especially when they’re sporting fully automatic weaponry. Even if it sucks the life from your heathen soul, at least you still get a trio of sisters armed with shotguns. Booyah. Here’s the lowdown on the plot: After being gunned down in an alley, Sister Kelly Wrath ascends to heaven to receive training from some of the great figures of religious mythology. She...

Fango got the scoop on a new indie slasher movie called Lee, written and directed by John C. Dusek, a visual FX artist whose credits include Beyond The Dunwich Horror and Nun Of That for fellow indie filmmaker Richard Griffin. In the DesertGrind Films production, the titular maniac stalks a group of quad-riding friends in a remote part of the Mojave Desert.
“Working with Richard really got me interested in creating my own film,” Dusek says. “I’ve questioned Richard to death throughout the production of Lee, and would say that my biggest influence in creating a horror movie would be Richard Griffin and his love of the genre.”
Lee’s cast is comprised of a number of feature first-timers, including Kathryn M. Hoyt, Jessena Fernandez, Noah Webb, Sandy Oliver (pictured), James Love and, as the eponymous murderer, Joe Pegorin. All of them, Dusek says, were happy collaborators on a scenario few of them survive.

Director/co-writer Richard Griffin passed on some new exclusive pics from his latest feature, the gory, supernaturally tinged action/comedy Nun Of That (which we last reported on here). He also announced that the movie will have a pair of encore showings this weekend in the Scorpio stamping grounds of Providence, Ri.
Nun Of That will play at midnight this Friday and Saturday, May 1-2, at Providence’s historic Cabel Car Cinema (204 South Main Street). “We were so awestruck by the crowds and reactions to the premiere screenings of Nun Of That,” Griffin tells us, “that producer/co-scripter Ted Marr and myself decided to do a series of midnight shows at the beautiful Cable Car Cinema and Cafe. We think the movie’s mix of gore, sex, comedy and hot nuns make for the perfect witching hour movie!” He goes on to advise that while the flick is unrated, “it contains nun nudity,...

Last year, author/artist/screenwriter Stephen Romano unveiled Shock Festival, a lavish volume that homaged the B-movie genre via histories and a trove of artwork and photos of horror, action and sexploitation flicks…that never existed (order it here). Now, Romano is adapting the book into a multi-dvd edition for POPcinema, and we got the details from him and an exclusive first peek at the cover art, along with a promo poster.
“People got really excited about the fictional world of my book, because it reminded them of real movies they had forgotten about or wanted to revisit,” Romano tells Fango. “There are a lot of opportunities now for younger people to rediscover weirdo, nihilistic sci-fi films like Chosen Survivors or yucky, twisted 42nd Street shithouse classics like Slime City.
