Mike White wrote the role of Tanya specifically with Jennifer Coolidge in mind. The actress almost turned the part down as she was so depressed about the pandemic and couldn't bring herself to work. She soon changed her mind when she read the full series.
That is not Steve Zahn's real penis that we see in the first episode, it is a prosthetic that is "worn" by his stunt double. It took 2 hours to apply and had to be approved by Zahn first. The actor was highly bemused by the whole procedure, given that he's regularly appeared nude (from behind) in films like Joy Ride (2001) and TV shows like Treme (2010).

Unless you're a huge Beatles or Cher fan it's not generally well known to non-Hindus, but this isn't its first appearance in mainstream Western media: it's also used - to very different effect, and arguably somewhat better pronunciation - as the start of the opening theme tune for the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series.
